  • For someone who has no deep interest in the Apple line, but wants one for Hearthstone - is this a good price for the Air?

    • Yep, it's currently $50 off, then dicksmith sale today takes another $70 off

      • It probably is a good price if you NEED it. But if not, I wouldn't say it is a good price because we had better before. Kogan had it for $400 last week with the eBay 20% deal.

Edit: I am referring to 16GB Air for $400.

        • Key word being need, thanks for this one wildstone. Can anyone comment on Hearthstone's user experience on iOS?

        • +2

Yes the ipad air is great for hearthstone. I just got my ipad air today and it runs flawlessly. My old ipad 3 used to slow down a lot when playing hearthstone but now theres no slow down at all.

        • @bossmode:
Hearthstone's on the PC, can't play it there?
I've heard of people jailbreaking their iphones to play it as well.

I played hearthstone on an iPad 2, lags like hell and crashes, I heard of people upgrading an Air for similar reason.

There was a $400 Kogan deal for the Air awhile back (ebay coupon)

IMO this is the best local price but its fairly regular from Dick…

        • @shadowfangz: Can play it there, but I like the idea of being able to bring a more compact form factor around so I can play the game over at a friends house without the hassle of lugging over my rig.

And that's my main concern: The port's experience has to take a hit somewhere, I just wanted to be sure that lag and frame drops weren't a part of the convenience which tablets offer.

        • Kogan is grey import.

        • @wxyz234:

          Kogan is grey import.

Well actually I believe that he emigrated from Russia.

        • @bossmode:

Just tried loading it on my iPad Air, works flawlessly

      I love Hearthstone!

    • Occasionally Kogan will beat it by a few dollars but then it isn't local stock, the best time to pick up an iPad Air was the big eBay sale a couple of weeks back but this is a good price.

Keep in mind though that if you're someone that needs to have the best one going that the iPad may be superseded in November given that was when this one came out. It's a while away yet but some people are happy to wait for either the newer model or for the older model to drop in price.

      • That's my only concern with the purchase. I don't know what the specifications or experience is like on iOS in comparison to PC - If they end up pushing out a superior iPad model in November I might as well wait for Q4's slated release of Hearthstone.

Who knows, maybe Android will bust out with some fancy specs for the card game.

        Also, Naxxramas, soon™?

        • If you're an Andriod fan and don't have another use for an iPad other than playing Hearthstone then I may not be a great idea. For virtually the same experience but on a tablet as opposed to a PC and it essentially costs you $507 plus any cases and such that's one hell of an expensive, free game.

In saying all of this, cheers I've looked in to the game a bit more now and it looks great. I'll be grabbing it later on today. :)

  • Looks like a pre-emptive move by Apple to sell their Ipad cheaper than Samsung Tab S 10.5.

  • Is the ipad mini wifi+cellular for 426 worth it? I passed on the previous $200 ebay kogan deal coz it was wifi only. So does the extra 226 for 3g worth it?

    • Is the ipad mini wifi+cellular for 426 worth it? I passed on the previous $200 ebay kogan deal coz it was wifi only. So does the extra 226 for 3g worth it?

      Would that not be 4G?

Sounds crazy to me to spend 226$ for this one feature … but it's totally up to you …

(For me it would be wasted money as I would tether from my phone (with my 1$ TPG plan … which would give me 226 months of usage —> more than 18 years!) ;-)

      • I used to think like that too but I ended up returning my iPad 3 and swapping it for a 3G version so that the connection was always on regardless of where I was- surprisingly convenient and great for a work device (I use mine for remote desktop and email). Also meant that the battery drain was only on one device at a time whilst preserving my phone. Having LTE in an iPad would be even more awesome but I can't find anything wrong with my current iPad 3 to justify switching just yet. Maybe iPad Air 2?

  • Tempted by the 32gb iPad Air, passed on the 16gb during the kogan eBay sale just for this but it still seems too pricey.

    • +1

You need to think this way: 178$ for another 16GB … ;-) The 32GB sounds much pricier now …

    1. iPad mini with RD 32gb wifi + cell discounted $120 of the original ~ 16% off
    2. Use gift cards 10% off
    3. Claim GST refund 9% off
    4. $515 altogether
Won't complain as I have been aiming for this.
    • where do u get 10% off gift card may i ask

      • The only way that I know of is if you work for bank that sell discount gift card and let you pay with Paywave, i.e ANZ staff club. I'm not sure about other bank though.

I don't work for bank so can't get this deal either. It is not exactly 10%, it is 9.75% to be precise.
