  • weren't these only around $700 normal price from dell around 2 years ago for the same model?

    • Yes, even cheaper, but that was then, not any more. Were up around the $1k.

      • eek
i got mine back then for $500 new
with the dollar going up i don't see why the high prices - they haven't even released a new model =\

    • Dell's offer in the US is featuring as The Tech Report's deal of the week:-

Last time we featured Dell's UltraSharp 2408WFP in our deal post, it was on sale for [US]$517. Today, the display is on sale again, but Dell's actually offering it for just [US]$469 — $80 cheaper than the new "starting price" and well below the [US]$689 this display cost last year.

Unlike some of the cheaper 24" displays you might see around the web, this one has a PVA panel with a full 8-bit-per-channel color definition. TN-based panels are only 6-bit, so they fill in the missing colors by dithering. TN technology also translates into poor viewing angles. [US]$469 might sound expensive for a 24" display, but it's actually a pretty sweet deal for a product that combines a 1920x1200 resolution, an 8-bit panel with great image quality, and a whole army of inputs (including DisplayPort, HDMI, and component).

We weren't too thrilled with the first iteration of the 2408WFP. Since then, however, Dell has ironed out the initial kinks, and TR editor Geoff Gasior has a pair of 'em in a dual-head setup.

$200 off the 3008WFP is also reasonable too.

  • This would have been a good deal 3 years ago, but I can buy 2 x 24" full HD LED LCD(Benq/Acer/Asus) newer generations of panel for the same money.

    • THis is MVA Panel

It is better the crappy TN used in the cheap ones

    • I do agree but some of the specialty monitors that have a pretty pure colour are still extremely expesive, there is a big difference for graphic designers. specially when good monitors don't use dynamic contrast ratio.

    • You are not comparing apples to apples. Not all 24" are using the same panel, eg. different contrast ratio, viewing angle, colour gamut etc.

Sorta saying like all 4-door cars are alike, eg. Hyundai Excel vs Toyota Prius!

    • these panels are also 16:10 not 16:9. big difference in real estate

    • I take it full HD is marketing speak for lower resolution (ie 1920x1080 and not 1920x1200) vertical resolution is very important to me.

Its just a pity $643 is still too expensive cause i need a new monitor and am looking for a 24" 16:10 format screen to replace my 19" 4:3 LCD.

      • my 2408 is 1900x1200

        • My 27" Acer is 2048 X 1152 and once calibrated with Colorvision spyder is very accurate, not as close as a calibrated ultrasharp and retails for $650 to $750 + $160 for the spyder. if dell bring out a U2710 or U2810 I would consider upgrading, but this generation is over priced for 3 year old technology.

  • Dell U2410 will be out soon, they are trying to sell all old ones first.

  • Why would anyone pay $100 for a hdmi cable? They're all the same!
Is this a good price for a great dell monitor?

  • not worth

  • I have this monitor (bought it when it was down in the $500's) and absolutely love it. Top notch viewing angle and brilliant contrast.
