  • What are the channels for Korean and Jap TV for WelTV?

    • Hi mate if you after Korean and Japanese Live TV, you need get TVPAD3, not WELTV

      • Does WELTV Premium have downloadable app for Japanese channels?

        • No. There are only 6 streaming apps: English channels, Taiwanese channels, Hong Kong channels, Mainland Chinese channels, sports channels and Arabic channels.

      • What apps available for Japanese Drama?

  • What about Vietnamese ?

    • No. There are only 6 streaming apps: English channels, Taiwanese channels, Hong Kong channels, Mainland Chinese channels, sports channels and Arabic channels.

  • So do we have a clear winner between the TVPAD or WELTV?

    • No. If you are after Japanese or Korean channels, get TVPAD3.
If you like movies, English channels, Taiwanese channels, Hong Kong channels, Mainland Chinese channels, sports channels or Arabic channels, get WelTV.

  • +1

    If i want to watch:
    1) HK TV live
    2) HK drama
    3) Disney (in English)
    4) Travel/Nat Geographic (in English)
    5) Sometimes maybe Korean/Jap drama (in Canto dialogue if possible).

    Which one should i get?

    • +1

      WelTV

      1) HK TV live -> WelTV
      2) HK drama -> VOD with either
      3) Disney (in English) -> none of them, only Chinese Disney with WelTV
      4) Travel/Nat Geographic (in English) -> WelTV
      5) Sometimes maybe Korean/Jap drama (in Canto dialogue if possible). -> VOD with either

    • No one option has everything you want in a unit, but the one that has most would be TVPad which has apps for Korean & Japanese live tv (no subtitles & not dubbed unfortunately).

I'd imagine the video quality & server stability/reliability would be the best on WELTV compared to TVPad3.

      • I have many Korean and Japanese friends who go for TVPAD3 for its Japanese/Korean streaming channels.
WelTV does not have Japanese/Korean streaming channels.

  • What English language channels are there on this?

    • +1

      Movies:
FOX HD, FOX Family Movies, FOX Action Movies, Fox Movies HBO, Hollywood Movies, WarnerTV

      Documentary:
      Discovery HD, National Geo Wild

      News:
      CNN, NHK World, BBC, CNBC

  • Thanks tg, does it have chinese subtitles? Anyway to turn them off? is the WEL in English as well or just chinese interface?

    • +1

Sometimes have Chinese subtitles sometimes not, the user interface can switch between English and Chinese only for Premium, and lots of other language for standard edition.

    • +1

Most of them will have Chinese subtitles.
There is no way to turn Chinese subtitles off.
Some of my Japanese friends do not want to buy WelTV because of this.
But hey, there is no other movie-rich no-annual-fee TV box out there like WelTV.

Regarding the interface, after you switch to English interface, only the app selection and setting pages become English, the channel names after you start an app are still in Chinese, all video on demand descriptions are still in Chinese.

  • hi rep, I'm very interested in buying the weltv, is there a way I can test the speed first, I bought a himedia TV box before, the slow buffering speed makes it unusable, so I worry it will be the same with this, obviously I don't want to waste $269 for nothing. So is there a way I can test the connection speed before buying? I'm in sydney with tpg adsl2+, thanks

    • Likewise, I am interested in a home trial before committing. Have read issues with buffering and I am in Melbourne.

      • Yes, there were buffering issue for VOD contents. Last week we had upgrade for VOD servers and switched to another streaming protocol. I have tested machine for a week and it is pretty good now.

    • Hi mate
Please go to www.speedtest.net to test your internet speed, the download speed should be around 5Mbps and you will have no problem using WELTV. Myself using TPG unlimited having a download speed around 7Mbps and no issue at all

    • You can download speedtest app for your smart phone.
I found that if the speed is at least 4Mbps, streaming is fine.

  • @Rep

On the WELTV; on the 'TVB XingHe' channel can the audio be switched between Mandarin & Cantonese like the on TVBJ subscription?

    • I don't think so mate

    • No.
Every channel just comes with ONE video stream (subtitle is already embeded in the video, no way to "disable" it) and ONE audio stream, there is no multiple audio stream to switch.

  • If i were to get WELTV but I'm only contacting it to my wifi, would it work? I went to www.speedtest.net and d/l speed is showing 7.01MB/sec.

I'm on iiNet using naked ADSL 2+ with BobLight modem/router.

    • Both WElTV and TVPAD3 supports WIFI connection, but you need to make sure your home wireless signal is strong and with WPA or WPA2 security encryption.

  • Hi Rep can u elaborate the diff btw Weltv Standard and Premium. Thanks

    • Premium have better hardware, a highly optimized Android OS, both of them can access to the same content including Live TV and VODs. Premium was having 5 English 3D movie channels and now has been remove due to low popularity. Premium also play Blu-ray movie files from your external device or NAS(if you know how to set them up connected). Premium can record live TV channels to your external device with two clicks from your remote.

      • +1

Premium editions also have HDMI-in to record videos from other HDMI devices.
For example, you can play PC game on your laptop/PC with HDMI output and then plug into WelTV to record your games to share on Youtube. No need to buy a separate HDMI recording device which easily cost $180 on ebay.

$49 price difference is well justified!!

        • Hi Tg

I have purchased the Premium version, it doesn't seem to be able record HDMI input. I have tried several configs, only can record streaming program to USB.

Contacted WELTV support, they said FCC does not allowed their devices to record HDMI input, could you please confirm?

          Thanks

  • +1

thanks, I've heard that China government has recently banned some tvbox use, are these affected? Thanks

    • Not banned but busted one.
Maige IPTV got affected and initially all Hong Kong channels got removed but the channels are coming back.
TVPAD and WelTV are not affected.

  • What's your warranty like? I'm interested to get the WELTV Premium version but can't find that information on the WELTV page. Can you post the link about your warranty here?

    • One year Replacement warranty

      • Can you post a link on your warranty? i can't find that anywhere in your webpage.

  • @Rep

Are you eventually going to stock Maige TV HD2S? It hands down would have to be the best out of all the IPTV STBs currently available on the market (largest chan list[300+] & true HD quality), only downside is the $200HKD/yr subscription fee.

Also for the WELTV standard ver. are the 150+ channels available permanently like Premium (which only has better HW & Rec func.)?

    • I am currently looking at the Maige TV to see if I will stock some of them, but when i receive the sample it looks way too much like the WELTV, especially the port layout. I have not got a chance to disassemble them to compare. In my mind it is more expensive than any other TV Boxes with $300+ with annual subscription.
You can also get 300+ channels for around $60 each year and with any cheap android box.

    • Standard one is same with Premium one, permanently free. Only in US the standard one need subscription.

  • WelTV's Arabic channels are down at the moment :(

  • +1

TVpad sucks compared to even the basic xiaomi 3 of which you can buy for about $60 aud in China, even the specs is superior to tvpad, and supports 4k resolutions.

Needless to say any Kaiboer stream box is even more superior and cheaper than this grossly overpriced tvpad.

    • i think the biggest question here is that how to program so your whatever tvbox can get pass the region lock and access the country's content.

  • I am looking for Korean tvN, MBC Every1,and onstyle on top of the usual Korean channels. Does tvpad have them?

    • hj0809 씨
Below are Korean channels on Tvpad:
      KBS1
      KBS2
      MBC <——— YES
      YTN
      SBS
      EBS
      SBS골프
      SBS ESPN
      MBC Sports
      J Golf
      FTV한국낚시채널
      CTS기독교TV
      Anione
      ANIMAX
      catch on
      olive
      comedyTV
      tvN <——— YES
      M-net

      • Are these officially licensed, or through some hackery of urls? i.e. if they change the url/TVpad drops support I'm left with a brick?

The gf wants onstyle though haha

        • Those channel service has been up for at least three years, there were times the tvpad server got problem, but they back them up very quick. That's why when the Korean TV company bankrupted, many of them turned to TVPAD3

        • WelTV has its own servers for streaming channels, not hacking other's URLs.

Even if the server stopped, WelTV premium will not become a brick because
          1. it can still be used to watch video on demands
          2. it can also act as an HDMI recorder.

        • @tg: Does the Maige have the full set of Korean channels as well? Do they have their own servers? happy to pay for subsccription if it means good service guarantee.

          Thanks for your help!

        • @hj0809:
          Yes
          Yes
It is really worth the subscription if you have time to watch them all.
Plenty of movies in English, plenty of sports in English, plenty of Korean and Japanese channels.
Their Hong Kong channels got busted last month but they came back eventually.

  • Hi Rep, I am on your website looking WELTV premium spec but does not mention about the freebies? How do we get them?

    • It will come will the WELTV, just leave a message and choose one of the freebies and i will throw them in for you.
Either Logitech M235 or Roccat Pyra USB Mouse or Disney metal DVD / CD Case
      Cheers

  • Out of all the asian IPTV set top boxes (TVPad 3, WELTV, Maige TV, iPlayer and any others I may have missed), what are the general rankings in terms of

    1) quality of video and audio,
    2) reliability of connection/streaming
    3) number of channels/selections available (interested in Chinese and English content only)
    4) overall?

    Thanks in advance!

    • +3

      1) quality of video and audio
      Maige TV > WelTV > TVPad 3/iPlayer

      2) reliability of connection/streaming
      Maige TV > WelTV > TVPad 3/iPlayer

      3) number of channels/selections available (interested in Chinese and English content only)
      Maige TV > WelTV > TVPad 3/iPlayer

      4) overall?
      Maige TV > WelTV > TVPad 3/iPlayer

    • +3

      In terms of movies channels:
Maige TV: multiple HBO + multiple FOX + multiple CHC
WelTV: 1 HBO + multple FOX + multiple CHC
      TVPAD3: 1 HBO

      • Thank you for your review.
Looks like Maige TV costs an annual subscription fee of $80; so WelTV seems like the best value.

        • Maige's annual fee of $80 gives you the following on top of what WelTV is offering
          1. more movie channels
          2. more Chinese channels
          3. more English channels
          4. Japanese channels (WelTV has 0)
          5. Korean channels (WelTV has 1)
          6. 7-day playback
          7. watch with an other device (PC/iOS/Android) in the same LAN
          8. less channel switching time (WelTV ~ 5 sec, Maige ~ 1 sec)

Don't get me wrong, WelTV is the BEST in the no-annual-fee IPTV category if Japanese/Korean live channels are not your priority.

        • @tg:

          Thanks for the additional info.

Can I ask are you affiliated with any of those companies? You seem to know quite a lot about this market (I mean this as a compliment).

        • +1

          @obzargain:

One does not have to be affiliated with companies to know a lot.
For example, we do not need to affiliate with Apple or Samsung to know quite a lot about iPhone/iPad/Samsung Galaxy stuff.

No, I am not affiliated with any of those companies.
I am just an ordinary ozBargainer who tries to help out.

  • I'm almost about to buy your WELTV, but I can't find your (1) Warranty info and (2) ABN on your web page.

Can you provide your ABN so that I can search for your company info in the ATO website before buying?

  • -2

I'm sorry OP, I'm going to go with SkyComp instead:
    http://www.skycomp.com.au/weltv-premium.html

They are $10 more expensive and have no freebies, but their webpage looks more professional and they have provided an ABN which I can search on the ATO website. At least I know they have been registered as a company since 2007.

    • That's fine mate, sorry for the late reply as we preparing the orders receive as we test all the unit to make sure they are working fine and load popular application for customer convenience and ship them ASAP.
You will receive confirmation email under my business name.
GST and business name registered since 2013

  • is there any way to know what is on or guide? Do we just turn it on and see if anything we like to watch?

    • +1

Yes, there is on-screen electronic guide for most channels.
Warn you, they are all in Chinese.
Better check the following for most English channels
      http://epg.dishhdasia.com/

  • hi rep, tried to order the tvpad3 but it says its $289. i thought the deal ends today?

    • PM sent, check your message

      • Can you PM me as well, please? Thanks.

  • I tried to order the WelTV but it keeps redirect me back to the ordering page before I can make payment.
    Is the deal still on??

    • The deal for WELTV is still on mate. Just replied to your message

  • Interested in a WELTV Premium. Does WELTV have China channels like CCTV 1, 2, 3, 4 etc?

    • Yes, from CCTV1 to CCTV13

    • +1

      Yes, most of them.
      CCTV-1
      CCTV-2
      CCTV-3
      CCTV-4
      CCTV-5
      CCTV-5-Plus
