  • thanks TA! real handy app, viewing pdf files can sometimes use lots of cpu power on older hardware making it slow & painful, this is way better

Is it as good as Acrobat Pro in 'recovering' the original Word version out of a PDF (incl all formatting, footnotes etc - faultless) or is it more like Aiseesoft PDF to Word Converter (which I believe is just OCR driven)?

  • Ta TA! great find

  • Any unwanted spyware, etc?

    Fine print:

You have to install and activate it before the Giveaway offer for the software is over.

    Terms and conditions

Please note that the software you download and install
during the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations:
    1) No free technical support
    2) No free upgrades to future versions
    3) Strictly non-commercial usage

    • also it says this on the download page "Want ability to install/reinstall and register at any time? Get PDFZilla with free lifetime updates" - which costs $19.97

does that mean you can't reinstall it when you upgrade your PC or when you reinstall windows?

      • Yes, I believe so. The next time you go to install you will need to re-activate the software, which will be outside the "Giveaway period".

  • Only the third one is an actual limitation on the software itself… This is a great give-away, thanks for posting OP.

  • Error establishing database connection.

    • Yep same .. :S
      having trouble downloading

Thanks OP. BTW, registration key is in the "readme.txt". No need for real email.

does this support print to pdf?

    • +1

tested in VM and does not support print to pdf. only image to pdf, otherwise pdf to other formats.

CutePDF will take care of that.

  • I'm curious as to whether this software provides any functionality not present in Adobe Acrobat Pro?

    • Probably not but compared to something that costs a thousand dollars or more per licence; you can't complain. It does most things most people need it do.

      • Student version of Acrobat is same as commercial version & costs $99. Less $10 in recent deal at Dick Smith. Can probably buy for less elsewhere.

Yes but we're not all students sunshine and for those of us in corporate environments, we can't just run off to The Pirate Bay for all of our software needs.

      • I'm a high school teacher in the public system so the DET has a deal for staff to get the Creative Cloud Suite for roughly $12? a year. :)

Personally I have always use Bluebeam Revu instead of Acrobat and other PDF apps. Yes it is not free but the features are well worth the price. My 2 cents….

    • Bluebeam Revu is indeed a perfectly equal, if not a slightly superior, alternative to Acrobat Pro and it's very reasonably priced compared to commercial licenses for Acrobat Pro.

I personally like it as well.

  • Thanks OP

  • Brilliant, OP :D

Lots of negative reviews. To read them scroll down the page:

  • Thanx TA :-)

  • Have given it a quick run, works well, easily and quickly. This will be the kind of thing that I use once in a blue moon, but when required could be a lifesaver. Thanks OP.

That is some terrible software. It can't convert tables and it only outputs one font of text. If you've ever used a premium pdf conversion software, this is inadequate. I uninstalled immediately. For a taste of what a real pdf conversion tool should be able to do, try Nitro's free online conversion. https://www.pdftoword.com/

It's not a good deal when there is free software that does the job much better. I don't want to be mean or disrespect, but want to save people the 20 minutes of life I wasted by downloading, installing, testing and uninstalling. A PDF to WORD converter should be able to handle tables, graphics, different fonts, subscripts, superscripts, formulas, etc…Otherwise I can copy and paste the text myself.

      Thanks for the advice Kealii

Its helpful when people post reasons why they didn't like a product and offer better alternatives
I completely agree with your reasons to neg and obviously the mods did also.

of course if I am unhappy with the public reply to my comment I will just get a mod to remove it.

Anything free is good?? Well in this case, not for me.

I installed it and tried the Word conversion on a few random PDF files I had. Only 1 converted OK, and that needed reformatting and font changes. The others had various problems, mainly text overwriting itself, and in one, all of the text looked like chinese characters and other symbols.

There were a couple of optional installs I unticked in the install …. can't remember what, but the installation automatically created an account with SharewareOnSale.
"Thank you for downloading from SharewareOnSale. We feature daily giveaways and discounts; to make it easier to download from us in the future, we've automatically created an account for you. You can login with your email or username."

Spam to come? Did I miss unticking some box? There is no facility I can find on that website to unsubscribe.

  • Got it last time when on Ozb ver3.0.0
When it converts to jpg, the quality is not as good as doing a screen grab. Anyone know if they fixed this with this version?
