      Private Health Insurance - Priceless

    • But how much better are fatty foods when you add an extra layer of fat and oil to them.
Should batter donuts then coat them in sugar, have a few a day to go out in style….

      • it's like those double deep fried chips - soooo oily but crunchy and nice :)

yeh this deep fryers will kill you. better just stick to eating your good old fashion KFC & hungry jacks

      • well said Gav..

  • I saw this few days ago on the Aldi website but don't want to spend more money on the oil in the long run and not to mention the oil consumed in the body.

if it's for a air fryer, i'll grab one in no time.

Only good for 1-2 people max. Won't fit much into a 1.2L fryer, and not anything large, like a nice piece of crumbed fish. We have a 3L version. Granted, not the healthiest food to be consumed, but you have control over the age and saturation of the oil at least, unlike some Fish and Chip shops, where the oil is old and saturated (worse for you).

    • How much chips could you cook in it?

      • Our 3L unit when filled to the max fill line will do about half a bag of frozen chips at a time (thats usually a 750gm bag too) so 300-400g of frozen chips in the 3L model. I could fit more in, but they don't cook as well if you don't give them room to move in the basket. Would imagine this unit does half or less of that figure as a guess?

I've commented on this unit on previous OzB posts. I found this unit completely unusable and frightfully dangerous.

If what you want to fry has a high moisture content (fresh cut chips, even when dried with paper towel), the oil will froth, sending scorching hot oil pouring out over the sides, into the unit and all over your benchtop.

I though it was user error the first time, but after the 2nd time it happened i quickly retired the unit.

Is that because the food basket is too small? You didn't overfill the oil above the MAX oil line did you?

      • Could possibly happen too if you overfill the basket. Whatever you put in the basket by volume is going to displace that same voume of oil. But yes, put anything in any deep fryer with high water content and its going to make a heck of a racket, possibly boil up and definitely spit oil out the top (be careful!). I've not had problems with frothing of the oil like you describe. Wonder if oil type affects this? I usually just use regular vegetable oil or Soy Bean oil.

      • There was one on display and the basket is tiny, it states it can fit 700g but I doubt that, it looked like you wouldn't even be able to fit half a piece of flake.

i get pure lard through work, and use that to fry my chips in.you can reuse it plenty of times and the chips end up tasting like 1980s maccas frys.so so awesome

1980s Maccas chips… Hmm were they that good? Can't remember! Hard to beat beer battered chips with a really good chicken salt or gravy IMO :)

  • Is their lumina steam cleaner any good> ? it was on special today, like $20 offf
