MechKB Double-Shot Sale, Mechanical Keyboards for as Low as $59+P&H, Deck Hassium for $105+P&H

380

Do you hate it when the markings on your keys fade? So do we, that’s why at MechKB, we carry a range of Double Shot keyboards and key caps and until the 24th of July, we’re putting them on sale. With keys that’ll never fade or smudge a Double shot keyboard or key cap set is a solid investment for any discerning mechanical keyboard user.

What is Double Shot?
Most contemporary mechanical keyboard keys are marked by burning the marking onto the key cap with a laser (laser-etching) then, in the case of non-backlit keyboards, filling the resulting groove with ink, a process known as laser-etched infill. This is a cheap and flexible way to create key caps which are relatively durable but after a period of repeated use (for the typical typist, around one year) the ink and the edges of the key start to wear eventually resulting in keys with ever-fading key markings.

Double-Shot Injection moulding is different. Double shot injection moulding uses two separate pieces of plastic, one for the key cap and one for the key markings (double-shot) and melds them together to form one key cap (injection moulding). Because no ‘ink’ is involved the keys never fade even after years of usage.

    • Hey Duoka,

We might have some in very soon. Earliest would be next week. :)

      • Any discount? I'm interested in either blue or brown switch after trying the sampler.

        • Not initially, maybe in the next deal we do? :P

  • The different (Cherry) key types is what's holding me back from buying a mechanical keyboard. Who wants to spend that much and find they hate typing on it. What colour Cherry keys (today) would match the ones found in mechanical keyboards most computers had in the 286/386 days?

    • Without knowing exactly which keyboard you are referring to, I would say Cherry MX Blue.

EDIT: Sorry, it's early morning, let me say why. It's probably a little less stiff to press than most of the keyboards of that era but it does replicate (to some degree) the tactile feedback and the audio ('click') feedback.

      • But blue's can be loud,I'd get blues for home use (if no one cares about the noise) and browns for office use. But then again if you can get the sampler to fine exactly what works for you

      • Thank you. :-)

  • hi all, the vortex f104 is not nkey rollover, is that means it wont register if 2 keys pressed at the same time? (sorry i know its stupid question as im new to mech kb tech).

    • The Vortex F-104 is 6-Key Rollover (USB standard) which means you can press 6 keys simultaneously + modifiers (shift, ctrl, etc.) There are reports that there's a firmware update which will make it n-key rollover, see randomness' comment above.

      • Thanks Roland, order submitted!

  • The Vortex iKBC keyboard connects via USB, correct?

      Correct :)

OK picked up a sampler, will hopefully help me decide…

Also thanks to Roland for being one of the better reps on here!

Wow, it already arrived. Didn't even go express. Thanks again!

  • Hi,

Any chance of a Deck Hassium - White LED - Cherry MX Brown configuration? :(

    • Hi Xis123, My colleague tells me they found a few extra Hassiums with White LED Cherry Brown in the warehouse, I believe they are updating that now.

        Hi Roland,

That would've been employee, name beginning with A! Great customer service. Your live chat is top notch!!

Bought it ! Thank you, can't wait to bring this to work LOL. Was getting tired of the fading HP rubberdome setup.

        • You're very welcome, glad we could help :)

    +1 to customer service :)

    • Thanks Shot :)

  • Roland, have only had my Deck Hassium keyboard for one day now and there is a problem with the capslock switch unfortunately. Running my finger across the key with light pressure applied from right-left, it makes a audible click noise on the left and proceeds to make the capslock key stuck.
This also happens intermittently when I press the capslock normally.

Please see my video link below of the issue:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIcr0tdOPkc&feature=youtu.be

p.s: I apologise for recording on a potato.

Is there anything you guys can do? I see you guys have ran out of White LED MX Brown config. :'(

    • Okay upon removing the keycap, I found what was causing the stuck issue, appears to be damage to the side of the finish, so the edge of the keycap is getting stuck there when depressed. :(

Perhaps I could sand it off somehow.. ;/

Aside from this issue, this is the best keyboard ever!!

edit: Just reseated the keycap.. seems to be working better. Still sticking every now and then but not as often.

      • Hey xis123,

I see it. It seems like a key cap alignment issue. Has your board being doing this since you got it? if it hasn't it may be because of something introduced into the keyboard that's stuck between the key and the frame.

Otherwise, send it back and we can swap out that cap and see if that makes things better?

Thankfully, I guess, the Capslock key is not a key most people would commonly use.

        Warm regards,
        Roland

      • I'm sure they will just send you a new capslock key just be telling them :)

  • Hi Roland,

Yes. I have been keeping it crispy clean since it arrived.

I have concluded it is due to the pre-existing damage on the side.(Image link in previous post)
It's acting as an additional layer on top and that is why the cap gets stuck when I depress it.

Thanks for your offer Roland. But I don't think the shipping cost would offset the benefit of a keycap replacement.

Can you please confirm that what I perceive to be damage isn't meant to be there by looking at another Deck Hassium? That way I'll feel better when I attempt to sand it out with precision lol.

    Cheers,

    xis123

    • Hey xis123,

I've had a look at another Hassium. It looks like that particular place is where the frame of the mould was attached to the actual top piece of the keyboard enclosure. So there is also a 'mark' like the one you see in your picture. However, on touch that mark is an indentation and doesn't protrude outwards, if that makes any sense. So if yours does protrude outwards so as to rub up against the capslock key then it's definitely a manufacturing error.

      Warm regards,
      Roland

    • When I got my keyboard, there was a problem with one of the keys and I didn't even have to send anything back… and i got a new one.

Hey, just received my white-LED, Cherry Blue Hassium by overnight courier. Not fussed about the font.

I love this keyboard! It's like going back almost 2 decades to an era with more noise but far fewer typos.

    • Good to hear! Enjoy hangdog! :)

  • Come back to report - placed my order on 24th, and received on the morning of 25th - which is awesomely fast!Definitely enjoying it.

Alas, to those who said black switches feel like "typing on b**bs", I simply can't agree with you more.

Thanks mechkb! Will let my friends know you!
