$1238 Syd to Sao Paulo, same dates.
outbound 33 hours of travel… via LAX, then NY/Atlanta/Detroit…
    inbound 42 hours!

searched same on Kayak… which returned same flights at $1160 via travel.com.au

searched SYD-Santiago on kayak and got $1152 (33hrs out, 45hrs back)
personally I would take Qantas @1371 and fly direct (15hrs out, 19hrs back)

    • wow thats amazing…would you mind sharing exactly how you got that return fare flying Qantas? Trying multiple combinations and they're all showing over 2k.
      thx

      • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/153194 shows SYD-Santiago $1399
LIMITED DATES per Qantas website, but seems to work for 20/4
        04 Feb 2015 to 27 Mar 2015
        01 May 2015 to 19 Jun 2015

… and as I said, my search was on Kayak.

  • 1052$ to peru … And now iam struggling to find anything below 2500$ ( for November ) Sigh …

  • Thanks! Long flight but cheaper of what I have previously found. I'll try for Carnival, but is it Bogotá in ColUmbia?

    This is a crazy deal.

    Going RT SYD-LAX-ATL-LIM is $1052
    RT SYD-LAX-ATL is $1716

  • Thankyou

  • Thanks for this, for Syd->BUENOS AIRES, Rio->NY, SF->syd for around 1300. Very nice.

    • All with delta?

      • +2

Yes, it was a dollar more than the return to Argentina. Going to spending a month travelling from BA->RIO then two going from NY to SF.

        • Wow! May I ask how you booked this? Not having much luck with the Delta site.

    Colombia

    • Good eye, I have also said it but nobody seems to care.

It's all good and well until they end up in a shithole city in Ohio.

  • Is it only on 24th march go and come back on 20th april? Is it possible to stay longer in a stopover?

    • There are a bunch of dates that work. You can extend your stopovers which adds a little bit to the price. Extra ~$100 or so if I want to stay a bit in Atlanta.

  • Any way you can skip USA on transit and stop over some were else in central america or fly direct to south america ???

    • +2

Not on this fare and not on Delta; Qantas and LAN are the only carriers that fly direct to South America from Australia (LAN has a short stop in Auckland).

        thanks buddy

    Thor Heyerdahl?

  • Please post these next time they pop up. Planning a trip to South America at the end of next year :)

  • Wow, $1100 return for Melbourne to Quito is amazing!

  • Panama is $1,048 and only a 4 hour flight from Atlanta.

    • What dates ?

      • Late Feb to March.

  • $1300usd Syd-lax-atl-quito return with stopovers in lax and atlanta. Online reservations errored so had to call US reservations.

  • Does this mean that Delta are also doing cheap flight deals to the USA and back (seeing as all of these South America routes also require you to go round-the-merry-go-round in the US first)??

    • No, unfortunately.

      As my comment above,

      Going RT SYD-LAX-ATL-LIM is $1052
      RT SYD-LAX-ATL is $1716

Panama is only 4 hours from Atlanta. So you could do a day there and back if you wanted to just use the flight for the US. Atlanta is a big hub so easy to find reasonable fares from there to the rest of the US.

      • Do you have to catch the last leg into South America if you want to stay in the US?

        • No, you don't have to catch the last leg but on return you'll need to leave from your return destination in Central America/South America otherwise airline will generally count you as have missed the flight.

        • +1

You'll need to fly the ticket fully "in sequence"; a skipped leg will be counted as a "no show" and each subsequent leg on your ticket will be cancelled. If you try to show up at an airport without having flown one of the previous legs, the airline will probably need to reprice and reissue your ticket (i.e. $$$).

The only leg you can safely skip on a ticket is the final one (e.g. on an X-Y-Z-Y-X itinerary you can skip Y-X — but make sure you'll be able to collect your bags at Y).

      • I lived in panama for 6 months. It's a nice city.

        Things to note.

        1. Visa on arrival. $30

        2. Airport to city area ( Bella vista or El Congrejo or Punta Pacifica ) is about 30-40 min drive. Only means of transport is taxi and you looking at about $30 USD.

        3. A reasonable good hotel. $100 p/n

        4. Must visit Casco Viejo. (Old city with historic buildings)

        5. Must visit Panama Canal. If you can't get a trip through then atleast see one of the locks. Mira Flores is fairly close.

        6. MUST CARRY A TRANSLATION BOOK (Spanish). Trust me, you will need it.

        Happy travels :)

        • "Must visit Casco Viejo" - during the day.

At night time, not well advised.

    • First dates I threw in came back $1199 DIRECT to LAX return from Brisbane. Im sure it gets cheaper if you fiddle with the dates a bit. Flight operated by Virgin too.

I could not find such price for May 2015 ??? Which website did you book through ?

From Sydney to Peru for example

  • Thank you!!!!

I got Syd to LAX with a 10 day stop over THEN
LAX - LIM (ATL 4 hour layover)

    Return
LIM - SYD (ATL 4 hour layover and LAX 6 hour layover)

    Cost: $1251.

  • I flew with Delta on an internal USA flight a few years ago… WORST FLIGHT EVER! Old plane, no seat adjustment, no headphone sockets… Only good thing about the flight was getting off the plane at LaGuardia!

    • Agreed. I have had six Delta flights internally in the past year in the USA and the service has been poor relative to Aus/Asian airlines, the planes and flight attendents often ancient, seats cramped, generally packed to the rafters with passengers on longer routes, zero in-flight entertainment, and all you get are non-alcoholic drinks and a cookie.

But the prices have been great. ;-)

  • I had a really good experience with Delta flying Sydney to NY! Good entertainment system, good service. My seat was definitely adjustable.

  • Is it possible to break the journey up e.g. spend a couple of night in LA for example? The only way I can think of to search for this is to enter it as a 'multi-city' journey, but it doesn't return the sale fares this way.

    • It should work and charge you a little bit more than the sale fare. If you can't get it going, just call up Delta to see if they can do it.

  • Was told by STA that the deal concluded on Monday 28th, but it seems to have been pulled early. Was going to buy four return SYD - SANTIAGO's this morning!

    Rats.
