102

Astone 1TB External Hard Drive with USB2.0 & eSATA. - Catch of the Day.

  • 1TB Western Digital WD10EAVS Hard Disk Inside
  • 8MB Cache
  • 7200RPM
  • SATA2

It's not the basic Astone enclosure, it's the higher quality one, which also includes eSata for faster transfer.

As cheap as you can get a 1TB external for i reckon. Almost gone though, so hurry.

  • Its good, I wanted to get one, but am tossing up between this and a smaller portable one.

Why post now when it almost sold out?

The only thing I don't like is the 8MB cache, you would need the 16MB one..

    • +4

Ummm.. because it's still a bargain and available?

    • -5

I seen this but didn't think it was a bargain, certaintly not bragain enough to post, so I didn't. It's not hard to check COTD to see whats for sale.

This deal is roughly the equivalent of these 2 items together:

Total $125 (not counting the shipping).

Of course, with the latter option you get a 32mb cache WD Green instead of the 8mb cache WD10EAVS, and with higher shipping costs.

    • +1

But this one is $136 shipped.

$125+$30 shipping is $155. A $20 difference, having to put everything together yourself and no combined warranty on the HD and case.

      • $20 to get a 32mb cache instead of a 8mb is good reason for me to get it.

  • You can get a Seagate 1TB w/32MB cache 7200 rpm drive in an Astone enclosure USB including eSATA for slightly more, $137.50 + $15.95 shipping anywhere in oz.

I think it's worth the few dollars extra for the Seagate plus more cache.

I hope whoever orders one isn't in a hurry:
    Under Product Specs:
"Please allow an additional 7 business days for delivery as product requires assembly and testing prior to dispatch."

    AND from the help:
"How long does dispatch and delivery take?
Order processing can take up to 5 business days from the date you place your order. We are currently using Australia Post to send most of your items. Once your order has been DISPATCHED, delivery can take up to 9 business days."

I ordered a similar HDD + enclosure from COTD but it took more then 12 business days and it still hadn't been dispatched so I cancelled the order (which took a long time as they didn't believe that breaching their time frame, which they had promoted, was a reason to cancel, and even when it was finally agreed it was a hassle, eventually I said refund "today" or I'll proceed with a credit card chargeback).

I totally agree with Zero , i hate to say it but i say this

“How long does dispatch and delivery take?
Order processing can take up to 5 business days from the date you place your order. We are currently using Australia Post to send most of your items. Once your order has been DISPATCHED, delivery can take up to 9 business days.”

    so negative for me

  • Mine (from Gizmoart) arrived next business day, and works fine.

I don't understand how you guys make such assumptions about delivery. Like any business, they have t&c… and "up to 7-10 business days" is just the way things are. I have ordered many items from COTD and every time they have delivered between 4-5 working days (i'm in Melb).

If you have a problem with their shipping times, then go buy it at your local store… delivery with Aust Post is what keeps their costs down.

  • diesel typed: "I don’t understand how you guys make such assumptions about delivery."
This WASN'T an assumption, this was an extra delay to the dispatch that they had under the specifications (not on the main product page where it would be read by more people). I did order a HDD + enclosure before and it wasn't ready over 2 weeks later, so again its NOT an assumption, in my case it was a FACT. The only way I got an actual refund was with me saying I would proceed with a charge back claim if they didn't honour their end.

TO BE CLEAR, COTD HAD UNDER PRODUCT SPECS:
"Please allow an additional 7 business days for delivery as product requires assembly and testing prior to dispatch."

Just because they don't want to assemble more then they may sell (and possible price decreases) they make the customer wait upto an extra 7 business days (not calendar days, so this may be 9 days extra on top of the normal week, so maybe 16 days before its even dispatched), just so they can put it together AFTER the order. I have seen QQQ admit they have sold items that they never even had instock. COTD don't say that they DON'T have items to dispatch when ordering, no wonder they can't even meet their own guidelines to dispatch and delivery times.

I agree the help bit is for general info, but if its not after that time frame then COTD wont care as they will say it in their Term and Conditions (not that their T&C & help match up anyway) (they don't even care when it IS after the time frames that they have suggested).

diesel typed: "delivery with Aust Post is what keeps their costs down" and COTD sometimes charge WAY too much, so much for that argument.

    • Agree - my shipping from US arrives earlier than that. It is all about Cutomer Service or rather how much of it?

In fact out in the US, they don't bill until it is shipped!

  • Cath of the day buys the items after they sell them. They simply just allocate and confirm the availability with suppliers. Therefore making zero's comment correct not just an assumption. That's the definition of assembeling a product. Whateva.

  • Zero, i wasn't making that comment only based on your reply… Freakovit -ve this post as well based on the t&c…

I'm just trying to make the point to EVEYRONE ELSE that your one bad experience with COTD with a similar product does not mean this is not a bargain, or the supposed long shipping times does not make it a bargain. Look at the bigger picture… other ppl are prepared to pay the low price and wait the specified period to get the product delivered to them instead of wasting their time to go to a store and get the same item for $3 cheaper (as an example).

Also, many many online stores order items from their supplier after they sell it… it's called drop shipping - a normal, smart and legitimate way of running a business. Nothing wrong with that either.

  • Its only a smart way when your upfront with customers that u don't have it in stock.

    Back from Holiday folks.

    For other members information.

For future, I will be ignoring any comments from Zero Sydney and Freakovit.

I have taken due diligence with Zero, and offered to personally attend his issues and he has not yet contacted me. Freakovit, based on posting history appears to have some merchant affiliations. I may be wrong, even if I am, I don't appreciate baseless hypothetical posts simply degrading the name of our business and will not reply.

So, please do not think I'm not available for the rest of you, ask any question you want and I will endeavor to answer in a timely fashion. I spend a lot of time on OzBargain as a natural process of not just a days work, but at home as well. Love the site.

Scotty it's time for an iPhone/web app!
