  • Great deal, it also has a 2.1 AMP USB charge port.

It's specs are much lower than the DS one, They are not similar at all.

This one max current is 18,000v vs DS 60,000v.
525 joule vs DS 2000 joule.
1 year warranty vs DS 5 years.
No connected equipment warranty vs $100,000 for DS one.
And DS one has coax and phone protection

    • No connected equipment warranty vs $100,000 for DS one.

Having a connected equipment warranty is one thing, successfully claiming on it is entirely another. There are about a million different clauses in the T&Cs that surge protector manufacturers have to exclude claims with.

But I agree the DSE board was a better purchase.

My router blew in a storm when there was a surge. It was a quick and easy process to get it covered with their (DSE) insurance process.

What you do get other than USB is individually switched outlets which I personally love. Having about 5 consoles hanging off my home theatre I do like the ability to remove any standby drain with the flick of a switch to devices on the fly. I prefer that to pulling cables out since getting behind the home theatre unit can be difficult.

    • where is this DS board? Link?

  • COTD have it as well.

I dont think I will buy from those crooks again.

My credit card got comprised 3 years ago. I never knew why. I used paypal for almost everything online and I run a nice clean computer.

      Then I read this
      http://www.news.com.au/technology/online/catch-of-the-day-wa…

COTD was the only other store (apart from pay pal) I used used my credit card with..

    • They also had 50% cash back when I bought this..

    • scoopon and COTD are same company

  • Response time is a little slow compared to better brands.

I use the DSE board because if you disassemble one, it has every form of passive protection available. Caps, ferrods, MOV's, everything.

None of them are as good as I'd like… but its one of the few that does EMF, EMI and Surge filtering.

I'd like to see this one opened up before I decided if it was worth ANYTHING over the $2 CrazyClarks ones.

Off-topic: I bought a few Belkin ones from this deal (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/63860) a couple of years ago. Now they all make beeping noises (at random times but usually in the morning) which is very annoying. I'd have to wait for electricity to be restored to it (?, everything else works) or turn it off myself before going back to sleep.

Anyone know the reason for this? Is it my house's power circuit or do I need a new battery or something? I've been noticing that the light bulbs around the house becomes dimmer when I'm using a heater or the kettle…

      1. That's a UPS.

      2. The internal battery is probably dead by now and needs replacing, if it's been a few years.

      • Oh okay. Thanks Amar89.

  • I bought this from COTD a couple years ago. It works fine, but my one small gripe with this product is the placement of the switches. It's not clear which switch powers which socket, so I often have to do a double take to get the correct switch.

I bought a different powerboard on eBay (link below). More expensive at $30 and only has 6 sockets but that's enough for me. The switches are on the side instead of the middle of the powerboard. Also still has 2 USB ports.

You could use white-out or something to draw lines to the socket I guess. I have a similar board and the switch for any socket is always to the right if you view the board from the side with the plug to be switched held towards yourself.

I have no issues, but other people who don't realise the above get confused.

    • Do the switches light up when turned on?

      • Yes, they do. I was so pleased with my first one from CotD that I bought two more.

          Thanks, bought one.

  • Yes. I have just received one today.

this item is always $19 + shipping at cotd

  • Thanx op- bought another 1 :-)

  • For 2 of them postage and handling is

    COTD - $9
    Scoopon - $11.34

Kinda strange when they use the exact same website with a different banner!

Ordering 1 also has a discrepancy (although smaller)

their quality is not good, 2 plugs stop working after one year(can't use warranty)
