  • Good price just bought TVPad 3 somewhere else for $240.

But I keep having slow response with the remote. After google it seems is a common problem.

I can see the red light on the TVpad 3 flashed but just no response from the Pad but if put it closer it is OK.

    • Sorry to hear about the issue.

Did you purchase the WHITE version ? We have been told that they have improved the censor on the WHITE limited version.

      Hope this helps.

      Robin

      • I have the white one.

I have 2 TVs in two difference place I originally installed it on the first TV with white light and seems OK.

Now I moved it to another TV with dimmer yellow light and started to happen.

I may have to put it back to the original place to try it again to prove it because of the light.

    • What's the video quality like? Does it buffer a lot?

    • -1

Maybe up vote the deal? Not only do you like the price, but you're receiving free tech support also.

    • The remote is horrible for me.. Lags like crap. Press it half a dozen times to move the cursor on screen by one square.

  • what actually this, i mean how it can let us watch asian tv. are those tv programmes can be watch live or this is just like streaming ie pptv viki etc

    • +2

This is all very new to me too, but I borrowed a friend's TVPad3 over the weekend and here is what I know after hooking up the unit to power, HDMI to TV and network cable.

      1) I turned on the TVPad3
      2) I switched my TV source to HDMI
      3) TV screen displayed TVPad logo.
      4) After a few seconds, I was given the option to:
      a) open any of the Apps already installed on the TVPad3
      b) Download more Apps.
      5) I use the TVPad remote to browse the different Apps (just like you would on your smart TV)
      6) I clicked the "Cantonese Live" app.
      7) A static wallpaper and a timer was displayed. This was shown, i think, due to the initial buffering.
      8) Within about 10 seconds, I was watching TVB streamed live from HK.
      9) I used the remote to switch between 10+ channels, all live, all Cantonese.
      10) After watching a while, I clicked the "Return" button on the remote and then it brought me back to the same screen described in step 4 above.
      11) This time I went into the "Cantonese Show" app.
      12) Without delay, there was a list of Cantonese TV show available as thumbnail. I can drill down to each thumbnail to browse the episode I wanted to watch. This i believe is what they call the VOD (Video On Demand).
      13) After watching a while, I went back to Step 4 above and tried to download other Apps such as Karaoke, Korean Drama etc.

The remote is a bit slow sometimes but overall it's SD quality and quite easy to use.

I'm planning to buy the WELTV, not sure if it has the same interface or not though.

      • There is a few HD channels, which are better but obviously chews up more bandwidth.

All the other channels are SD Quality though.

  • Hey rep, all new to the TVPAD stuff. I know it's great for Chinese and Korean, what about Vietnamese TV? Is there an extensive amount of channels, maybe on a different product?

  • Hi Rep,

What is your return policy? I have been interested in getting one of these for sometime, but I'm not sure how it will work out with my home internet, I've heard some people bought one and it doesn't work at home (too slow).

Is it possible that I buy one and try at home, if the streaming is really slow I bring back for full refund?

    Thanks.

    • For TVPAD:
Download a app called BeTV for Windows (allow watching of China Mainland Channels), if that runs fine then you should be OK.

You need around 300kb/s download speeds to work fine, this is around 2.4mbps if you look on your modem sync speed. However going off the modem sync speed isn't always correct as you may sync higher but your line maybe noisy which causes the speed to slow down.

      • Thanks for the reply, I've with ADSL2+, my download speed should be fine, but the problem is connecting to servers in China.

I've tried downloading BETV at home using my PC, the buffering speed makes it unwatchable. But I've heard people say TVPAD or WELTV have their own oversea server, which will make the connection much faster.

The whole point of buying one of these is the benefit of it's oversea servers. Anybody can download App from cheap android device and connect to TV if it's the same.

        • I have TPG ADSL2+ 3.5km from exchange, download speed only 4Mbps and I am still fine.

    • Replied via our Live Chat.

      Cheers

      • What live chat???
        I didn't receive any message

        • Sorry, I got mixed up with the other customer.

Please come and see us if you are located in Sydney and we can find out if your Internet connection is suitable for TVPAD/WELTV.

In general, TVPAD/WELTV will work fine if you can watch youtube at home.

          Hope this helps.

  • from website,

WelTV TK8202 is the latest media player that allows you to watch Asia TV channels on your TV through your broadband connection. At least 2Mb Internet speed required! Connect the WelTV box to internet modem/router wireless, and connect the HDMI cable or AVI cable to your TV. Now you can watch Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, China, Vietnamese, Taiwan and many more channels from on your big screen TV

Can you confirm it does have channels from Vietnam and Malaysia? And if so, what channels are they?

    • +1

I always wanted to tes tout the WelTV, however…. hard to justify buying one when TVPAD has proven they are reliable in terms of watching HK Jade Channels.

I've seen other similar products die over the years after being threatened by TVB. However TVPAD still lives even still being in a lawsuit with TVB. I remember the law suit has been around for over 2yrs.

Hard to move onto another brand knowing how reliable TVPAD is, especially these devices cost upwards of $200.

  • I have a WELTV at home atm.

Vietname & Malaysian - not available. Only concentrates on US, China, HK and TW channels. I think the 'Holywood' Channel were also from TW as it has TW based ads.
The live and VOD channels have HD and UHD option too. If your connection can support, then it's pretty good option.

Mine run off the Wifi but you can have wired connection to it.

I haven't tried TVPAD3 TBH, so not sure how to compare tho. At this stage, WELTV isn't too bad but being new in the market - there are glitches that need fixes and the apps just keeps getting new versions every few days. Quite annoying in my view.

    • Can someone comment on the likelihood of Vietnamese / Malaysian channels being available on WELTV in the future, including dates is possible?

    • Sounds like a router issue or a ISP issue.
TVPAD works flawlessly for me, unless somebody DDOS's the server.

      • not an router or ISP issue…from my point of view, I paid my money and they shouldn't have any interruptions…

how can you say flawlessly if its down when you want to watch it!

        • ME ME ME ME MY MY MY. Entitlement in this is high

    • +2

Hi Guys. I bought a tvpad1 a couple of years ago and it has never stopped working.

I do NOT watch Australian tv. Japanese TV or Korean TV ftw ;)

I had no issues during world cup or so. Change your DNS server.

    • We've had a tvpad 3 for a few months now. Never any issues. Sounds like a config issue on your end.

  • Is that 2mbit/s OR 2mb/s (which is ~16mbit/s) connection ???

[because most of the ISPs advertise in mbits, just wanted to clarify]

    • actually the difference is between mbps and mb/s.
You only need around 2mbps which equates to around 256kb/s.

People often get these mixed up.
      mbps = Megabits per second
      mb/s = Megabytes per second

1 Byte = 8 Bits. Thats the conversion.

      • +2

People only get confused because people don't use the right letter and capitalisation.

        It's MB/s or Mb/s

The capital B is bytes, the lower case b is bits.

        Your post is wrong.

In any event, the rep is stating you need 2Mb/s not 2MB/s.

  • Took the bullet and bought the WELTV last week from onestopadmin. Prompt delivery but there was a fault in the unit, if the unit is put on standby through the remote, it will never come back on again. Do you have the same problem with the WElTV you have? Note that if something goes wrong with the unit which happens in my case, We have to bear the shipping cost to send back.

  • For those interested in WELTV, my WELTV unit has serious buffering problem when watching VOD content. Live feed have no problem, just the VOD channels. I think it is such as waste as the VOD content are really good and good HD quality.

I don't have this problem with my TVPad 2 and I am on ADSL 2+ 12 Mbps.

    • That really suxs, regarding the VOD, is it ever buffer free?

      • I only ever get it buffer-free on QiYi app at 720p max. Never get it to work in other apps or 1080p.

  • Is WELTV the only one with English Premier League ? or does TVPAD have this as well ? Plus is there any chance of English commentary

    • HD quality on WELTV and Chinese commentary only

      • In Cantonese or Mandarin?

      • Might by the weltv just for the EPL.

Just need to put up with Chinese commentary.

  • Mandarin and the commentators do talk a lot!

  • I have the TVPAD3 at the moment and it is pretty stable.

Thinking about getting the WELTV but does it have playback function of TVB channels?
So can I watch programs from 2 or 3 days ago?

    • +1

      There is no playback.
There is only time-shifted for 2 channels in the Hong Kong app.
To have full 7-day playback, get Maige.

  • The buffering issue isn't major in my case, but shows keeps skipping few secs is a problem.

If you have no need for US based channels like Discovery channels and National Geographic, I won't go for WELTV. Seems TVPad have plenty of hacks around that's not available to WELTV.

Lot's of question can get some form of answers here tho: http://clubtvpad.com/forums/

Though.. of course, you won't find 'official' support forum for it, for obvious reasons….TVB and other copyright holders will be all over them LOL.

  • Any one have any luck with Japanese Channels and the quality?

  • Hi, Skycomp,
I have a TVPAD but have not used a WELTV. What are the differences between a TVPAD3 & WELTV?

    • +1

      Name difference:
WelTV sounds like wishing you well.
Tvpad sounds like something used by ladies.

      • WelTV is newer, but hasn't proven its trustworthiness.
I will wait around 1 yr before buying it just to make sure they don't chicken out like other companies when they get a notice from TVB to shut it down or get sued.

TVPad has proven their trustworthiness by still running for over 3yrs even with multiple suitcases by TVB against it.

Just depends if you want to risk $269 on a product which may die within 1 yr due to law enforcement.

    • +1

      Channel difference:
WelTV has more English movie channels.
Tvpad has more Japanese and Korean channels.
WelTV has more English and Taiwanese channels.
WelTV has more Hong Kong and Chinese channels.

  • Is there an equivalent unit for Europe?

  • Excuse my ignorance, but can Boxee perform as a comparable IPTV player? I have a Boxee at home retired after buying Roku 3.

  • I've heard there is a new player called moon box… Anyone have any experience that can comment on this particular model for VOD and HK live channels. I have a TVPaD1 and looking to get another box

  • On the WELTV, is channel switching fast similar to MaigeTV? Can you add channels to a favourite list (so you don't have to sift through the full list)?

  • For those who love Malaysian (Astro), Taiwanese, and Hong Kong channels, you can visit this link:

    http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/maroubra/miscellaneous-goods/…

Install an app on Android device, pay for subscription, and you can access to 230+ live TV channels.

Free trial period of 2 days.

So, if you have an android box (e.g tvpad series) and is able to install the apk, worth a try.

    • There are so many of these devices out in the market now, I think soon they will be more vigilant in cracking it down.

  • I am hoping some TVPAD3 /WELTV experts can help me!

I sleep quite early so I will need to use a VOD function and not live TV.

If I require VOD for TVB Drama and cooking show episodes from the past which unit is better?

How many days are these dramas and cooking days stored for?

    • Those devices are good for the streaming.
If you are after VOD, just get normal Android box or even watch on your iPad/Android tablet and install various VOD apps.

      • thank you.
