$50 AUD to KL - I don't doubt it is a good deal but I fail to see how it is better than free. Afterall, that's what was promoted.

    • The advertisement was in relation to their last "free seats sale", but you have to pay for airport tax and fuel charges, which equate to around $150AUD at that time. So they are not wrong in advertising its a better deal as the fares are only $99AUD now.

  • +2
  • Anyone notice how there are no flights showing at all for May, June and July. I noticed that for the last 3 million seat sale a couple of days ago that there were no flights showing for those months either. Why bother saying that it includes those dates when they don't even have them?

    • They are available for domestic flights for that period. For international routes, they will be available as soon as the sale starts.

  • So is it $99 to KL one way or $50?

  • its $99…I am not sure where the $50 came from, maybe previous poster thought it was $99 return

    • If you are originating from Melbourne, a return ticket of Melbourne to KL will be $99+$99 = $198

But if you are buying your returning ticket of KUL-MEL separately, you will get it in Malaysian ringgit, which is advertised to be RM149 (~$50). So be mindful when buying the ticket.

  • well, maybe he confused, the flight from KL to Melb is $149MYR which is about $50AUD, the flight from Mel-KL is $99AUD.
Even though this sale is cheap but it is NOT as good as the free seat sale. Back then AUD was weaker, but the flight from KL-Mel is only $99MYR which is only about $33AUD, the flight from Mel-KL was $82. I got the ticket from the last sale but I missed out the return ticket to Melb :-(

One more trick for you, DO NOT book the return ticket, instead you should book a separate ticket for Mel-KL and KL-Mel. The AUD amount shown for the return leg is with a very bad exchange rate, you should book separtely so that you can pay the return leg in MYR. If you have NAB Gold Visa Debit card or Wizard Credit card then there will be fx fee. Actually, since airasia is based in Malaysia, when you do booking tried your best to book in MYR since that will normally cheaper. Or you should use google to compare which option is better.

  • i see…awesome

  • Thanks King Kong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I worked that out before, but I keep forgetting.

I think you might save me quite a bit if I manage to grab the flights I want!

  • i think this is the list of the fares that are going to be on sale http://www.airasia.com/site/my/en/promotion.jsp?reference=rr…

  • -1

anyone know how the $550 odd return to London (from Melbourne) compares to cheapest fare of the recent past?

    cheers

  • guys…i think some of the sale fares already up on their website

  • Yep, they're up.

  • From my observation booking made in dec09 - april10 are either expensive or u can't find a cheap return flight from KUL (it's at least $297). but for booking in may-july loads of cheap fares.

Do you guys know that AIRASIA (X version) will be offering flights to 3 locations in Japan later this year?(Sapporo, Osaka and Fukuoka)

That would mean soon to be 2 no frills airlines will be flying into Japan AirAsia and Jetstar.

    • Oh thanks for the info! I might hold off on buying connection flights from KL. I really want to go to Japan!

    • It won't be. Malaysian government has blocked their entry to the country until they paid the amount due to the airport.

      • I think you'll find theres more to the story. AirAsia owes Airport tax in arrears of 65mil ringit to the budget terminal in KL(LCCT). And thats because the figure is being disputed. They are currently in negotiations and have been appointed a consultant/mediator to settle the dispute.

Currently AirAsia X is a different company and the malaysian govn owns no piece of it though there are talks of simply merging the 2 together. But because its all publicisied and political approval had been deferred ie no other reason not to fly but to make AIRASIA pay its dues which is in dispute with MAHB.

The main reason that Japan hadnt been done until now was the Japanese govn visa restrictions for Malaysian passport holders. Now that talks have finished and the Japanese govn has agreed to relax visa restrictions bringing it inline with other nationalities it gives the green light to Airasia x whom are in talks with airports etc.

Airasia x is still waiting on delivery of new planes for its expansion plans including to Japan, China and soon the Middleeast.

It is true though that the Malaysian govn DEFERRED approval for its Seoul and Sydney route so for now they are focusing on China and the middle east(setting up another HUB hence allowing it to expand much more into Europe and Africa). Next Year to add India and New York. And they are considering additional hubs such as in Oz or NZ if the new LCCT isnt completed by 2011 and if MAHB(malaysia airport holdings) dont give the right incentives. Next year they will also change seat configurations allowing for more leg room, focusing on better service and new flat beds.

Originally it was supposed to be South Korea, India, Japan and Taiwan as the new countries with increased services to Oz via sydney etc and more to China. But lol plans change.

  • hmmm site is not working atm.

  • We're undergoing a quick maintenance exercise.
Should you experience difficulties in flight booking, please try again after 5 minutes.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you in advance for your patience.

  • managed to book some flights from perth to hk just now. im glad that this time there is actually something to book, unlike what happened last sunday night…that was a fiasco.

hopefully they will have flights to japan as evangelion mentioned.

  • eksman, whats the best you can do for Perth to HK in terms of $ ?

  • Awesome, just got mel - kul for $99 and RM250 on way back with large luggage.

  • seamonkey: it would vary i guess…i added large luggage, extra legroom seats….but to sum up my trip (2 adults 1 infant +hot seats) somewhere around 1k aud all in (give or take) perth-kl-hk then macau-kl-perth

  • hey, question. did someone the other day say that you can organise luggage like right up to check-in or at least a couple of days before. Just curious if there is only an organisational benefit to stating luggage now, rather than a financial benefit. Is that right ?

    • Yes you can do that up to 48 hours before departure, by visiting Manage Your Booking link on the website. You can add/change your luggage and meals. If you do Webcheck-In (You will be able to do this 48 hours before departure), you can add your luggage size with no additional fees, up to 4 hours before departure. You can't do this if you check in at the airport. Thanks.

  • by the way, landed a stack tonight. Was in KL from a previous booking, now going to Macau, travelling from Hong Kong to Bangkok and then Bangkok to KL, all over 2 weeks or so, those 3 flights together were around $100. Also got Melbourne>KL>London>KL>Melbourne for $602.35, partner will be wrapped in the morning! Is that as cheap as it has ever gotten?
Congrats everyone on your excellent pickups

  • i got melb to shanghai china return for approx $250 :) awesome! :D

  • since when was shanghai listed?

    edit: i see, hangzhou

  • Wow just booked return mel to kl for me and the cheese n kisses $365 including baggage and meals. Awesome stuff!

  • Got myself and a girlfriend a trip. YES! She's a school teacher and usually its a bitch to get them in school holidays.

  • Thanks a lot everyone, esp King Kong!

I booked 2 trips plus the return leg for a trip I'd half booked before. Many for 3 people. Just need to book one more seat. I'll wait for another sale for that.

17 seats for maybe $600. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!

I've paid around $500 for one seat to Bali on J&#$#@r before :[

And I've managed to avoid having to use T!%&r (I bought new tickets for that!)

Make the most of these offers as they will disappear a few years later.

    Happy flying everyone!

Wow, this is a gooden (but selling fast).

As per usual adioso has all the details as to which days are cheap/etc. AU->Malaysia routes ($99):
    - http://adioso.com/au/per-to-kul.html
    - http://adioso.com/au/ool-to-kul.html

    Kuala Lumpur to London ($163!!!):

That means one way from Australia to London is only $262 (nuts!). Return from $647.

Also, once you're in KL, there's heaps of great places to go VERY cheaply:

(Can anyone say South-thailand beaches for $29?)

    Happy hunting!

  • too bad there is no flight depart from or to sydney.
    still good deal

    • Same thing with the fate for Sydney. The Malaysian government has effectively blocked this route. Maybe we will see it coming next year.

      • some fees overdue and it's still not settle, pray for it, LOL~!

      • I read that AirAsia still owes over $20 million in airport fees to the government, hence they're blocking Sydney and another city until they pay up.

Was in an article about 2 weeks ago when I was in Malaysia.

      • More detailed info:

    Whens this sale finish?

    • +1

      16th of August

  • Hello all. I dont know what the hell im doing wrong here. I can get the $99 flight to KL but when i try to get the return flight it is 745 myr ($269). Im in perth btw. Am i doing something wrong or is it because the official sale hasnt started?

  • +1

SmokeandMirrors - sale is most definately underway. Its likely the date you are choosing has no availability in terms of cheap airfare, try something like May-July (not because you want to go then, just to show you that its all about whats left, you should see the 149 MYR ($50) on some returm flights, and based on the last time I looked, quite a few , good luck :-)

  • Thanks for the info guys.

  • Worked out the title!

It's better than their previous 'free' seat sales as in those sales you had to pay the fuel surcharge, admin fee, etc. Now there's just one price (and the TOTALS are the cheapest ever.)

It's amazing what the brain comes up with when you went to bed at 6:30am!

    Do I win a prize?

    • They are not the cheapest ever. With the Free seats sale, I booked Melbourne to KL for $60 each way. It would have been cheaper if I had booked the KL-Melb flight in RM, but I did not think to do it at the time.

With the free seats sale I also booked
      KL-Kota Kinabalu for RM28.50 now RM49
      KL-Vientiane return RM113 now 138
But the Kuching-KL flights are RM2.50 cheaper!!

      Still a super deal though!

  • Just booked perth to london return in peak period. Worked out to around 700ish return with 20kg baggage allowance =]

    • +1

That, my friend, is awesome! (I just did it a month ago, very, very enjoyable).

  • Bit under $700 for London Return from Melbourne in March next year.

Thanks for the heads up and the link to adioso, made the planning so much easier.

  • Just booked a trip for 2 from the Gold coast to Kuala Lumpa for a couple of nights and then from Kuala Lumpa to Phuket for about a week, back to KL for a day or 2 and then back home. All this for under 600 bucks including laguage and meals etc)!

    Bargain!

  • Just a Question:
For those with experience in connecting flights with AirAsia, specifically Mel->KL->Bangkok/Phuket, what's the time I should allocate between flights to ensure I can check out and check in properly on time? I've never been on a point to point carrier before so advice would help.

P.S. Also need to connect Syd flight (probably by Tiger Airways) to the above flight.

    • The recommendation by AirAsia is 3 hours, but I would not even risk of missing the connecting flight. Therefore, I suggest a stopover either just one night at an airport hotel (Try Tunehotels.com near LCCT), or just have a day in Kuala Lumpur. This will minimise any heartache later of missing your connecting flight.

      • I agree utterly with what zack said. I did this flying MEL->KL->London (stayed overnight), as I really didn't want to risk blowing missing my london leg if the flight was delayed (and it was nice to have a sleep/shower anyway).

That said, since KL->Phuket is only $29 or so, you could just leave yourself 3-4 hours and if you miss it just risk booking the next available flight (may end up around the same cost as a night in a hotel, depending if you're by yourself or with someone else).

        • The thing is, my current flight arrives at KL in the morning (6:40am) so there's not much point of staying at a hotel "overnight". I am thinking of taking the 10:40am flight to Bangkok which gives me 4 hours. Is that enough?

I am also planning around 2 hours for connecting between Syd and Mel. Is that too short?

      • Agreed, 3 hours will put you on the safe side. I think I've gotten away with 2 hours so far due to good fortune.

  • +2

HI lilmeh, you should allocate about 2 hours between international segments. This has worked well for me.

I flew Sydney -> Gold Coast the night before via Virgin Blue, stayed in Coolangatta, then caught the GC -> KL flight. Apparently there's a well-priced hotel (Coolangatta Airport Hotel) across the road from the terminal, which I'll use this time around. Don't forget to book the return KL -> AU segment separately to take advantage of AirAsia's currency conversion quirk, as per the above instructions. This leg then comes to about $50.

Booked Gold Coast -> Kuala Lumpur -> Brunei -> Kota Kinabalu & Kuala Lumpur -> Gold Coast this morning for about $200, thank you, AirAsia!

    • The $50 special doesn't appear on mine until March. I need to leave KL on the 21st of Jan. The KL->Mel leg is 767 MYR on mine and KL->GC is 974 MYR.

Is that what is shown on yours?
Because that comes to $260ish AUD minimum.

      • I booked my tickets for May, the cheap tickets are from March onwards. I suspect the cheap tickets prior to March are now sold out.

        • They are but I already bought the Mel->KL ticket (at 2am last night ;) ). Now trying to figure out the return flight which is turning out to be quite a hassle because even last night there was no promo tickets.

          • @lilmeh: lilmeh, A suggestion….
When booking the sale flights, have multiple windows running and line up your 'sale price' flight dates (out and back) before starting your booking. The sale prices are not valid on all flights.

            • @odyssi: I understand that the sale prices are not valid on all flights but it seems there was NO sale flights for KL->Mel during Jan anyways.
Last night, there was some for Feb 1st but that was it.

              • @lilmeh: No flights for January probably because they ran a sale for period Nov 2009- Jan 2010 few months ago. And for February, it was in the sales period in the sales just before this 3,000,000 sales. So most of the cheap seats would probably be booked before this sales even started. This is the 1st time travel period May-July 2010 is on sales, so you will find more availability for this period.

              • @lilmeh: Umm OK… Not sure why you booked your outbound flight when you already knew there were no return 'sale' flights for the date you needed ?

                • @odyssi: Because I was going to go to Thailand on those specific dates anyways.
I was a tiny bit lenient of days as long as it after NY and before Australia Day so I thought I might as well grab 'em quick whichever they had first.
I'm still making a saving of around $500 (cf. other airlines) even with booking on Jetstar (see below) for the return trip.

  • Tune Hotels (http://www.tunehotels.com/) is currently on sale, got two nights at the Tune KLIA - LCCT including breakfast, WiFi and trimmings for about $26 total. It's worth booking an extra night for the price, just for the late check out :) My experience is that Tune is happy to store luggage, too.

  • Awesome deals….We scored;
    Melb —> Macau —> Melb sale fare for a 'Asia Vegas' long weekend, and;
    Melb —> Beijing (Tianjin)—-Hangzou(Shanghai) —> Melb sale fare for a holiday :)

    Soooo Cheap !

    • oooh how much did u get the melb - macau - melb trip for?

      sounds great!

      • For the Melb —> Macau —> Melb trip we paid;

        Melb —> K.L $134 (Includes 20kg's luggage + meal)

        K.L —> Macau $43 (Includes 20kg's luggage)

        Macau —> K.L $50 (Includes 20kg's luggage)

        K.L —> Melb $75 (Includes 20kg's luggage + meal)

Total AUD $302 return per person (Give or take a few $$'s for the bank exchange rates)

        Happy with that :)

        • How come it is so cheap for you? My mother really wants to go to Hong Kong to meet her family.. i checked for one way and it costs like $500-600 one way? How come it is so expensive compared to yours.

  • Hmm.. For those in Sydney, I've just compared Jetstar Phuket->Sydney and it's around the same price when extras are included. Will update exact price when done.

EDIT: AirAsia is around $315 (KL->Mel + food) + $60 (Phuket->KL) + whatever it costs to get back to sydney (with insurance).
Jetstart costs $455ish without insurance (but with Entertain Me and Feed Me).
Calling AIG to check how much insurance will be tomorrow.

    Thank you so much!

GOING TO CHINA (BEIJING AND SHANGHAI)

Does anybody know how far the airports are out of the city centre???

    • +1

not sure about BJ approx 1 hr..shanghai more than 1hr30mins…its like travelling from brissy to gold coast airport…btw have fun in shanghai a truely awesome city…

      • Thanks mate. Looking forward to it :)

    • -1

      Google anyone …. ?

    • +1

Shame it doesnt fly to Shanghai's main airport. That airport is 30km from the city but takes 7.5 mins to get there, going at up to 431km/hr!

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanghai_Maglev_Train

P.S. Don't forget that China needs a visa, unlike a lot of the other countries on sale..

      • quackster, would you know which countries in particular doesn't need a visa?

        • I do know that China, Vietnam and Myanmar need visas.

  • I am planning to stay in Kuala Lampur for 4 days. I have heard that the hotels are pretty cheap…. Can someone please suggest a good 5 star hotel for around $100 in central Kuala Lampur near the Patrona Towers and what is the best way to book. Thanx

    • Try Trader's hotel (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g298570-d608399-Revi…), it is not quite 5 star (4.5 star) but it is rated no 1 hotel in KL. It is at an excellent location, has very good service, nice room and the best rooftop bar in KL.

    • yea,try trader's hotel. it is less than 500m away from petronas towers and u have a choice of free shuttle (which runs really frequently as the distance is short) to and fro klcc or a short stroll through a beautiful garden.

  • Do you know Jetstar is attempting to match with AirAsia on Perth-Bali with the same deal $99, albeit on a shorter timeframe (Feb-March 2010)? Good luck!

  • Still heaps of days with the cheap seats available on this crazy sale!

    Australia -> KL ($99):
    - http://adioso.com/au/per-to-kul.html
    - http://adioso.com/au/ool-to-kul.html

    KL -> London ($163):

    The madness continues!

  • The next 12 months of my life are dominated by travel. Booked a crazy amount of travel, like 40+ flights. Most of it was before this sale but this time around a few gap flights and another London trip.

You know if I added it all up, it would be crazy cheap, even for 6 overseas trips, with multiple flights while Im there.

Main point of this email? Its crossed my mind more than once that Im still taking a gamble. I mean its like those investors that look for crazy interest rates, then the newspaper front page a year later, BANG, company folds, and everyone is like, ohhh didnt see that coming and the rest of us are like, saw that was going to happen.

Anyone think that these sales sometimes border on true desperation, and with $20 million + debts to the Malaysian government, other things as well, do you ever think we all might be speaking about how these flights were not cheap at all, in 6 months from now (if there was NO flight)

Email sounds more pesimistic than I intended, just think its worth looking at the signs and thinking about possibilities to avoid later disappointment.

No one more than me hopes Im wrong. There may be nothing in it at all. Just a gut feel.

For the record, I think it'll be fine. But I imagine that its not possible to make money taking me from Melb>KL>London>KL>Melbourne for $600, but what would I know.

  • Why is AirAsia's live chat not open?
It says it is open 9am-6pm GMT +8:00 and regardless of timezone, it's 1:15pm in Aust, so whichever timezone the site operates on, it should still be open.

  • Shami - Try concorde hotel. Traders is much more expensive than $100/night.

    • I did a quick check for the price of traders and it is RM332 for 2 person/ RM315 for 1 person per night. it is around AUD100 given that AUD is quite strong now.

      • How did you get 332RM? What site are you using? Ill use that site next time!
