  • Is that normal roast chicken? Wondering if Coles has Peri Peri chicken like Woolworths.

    • Only ever seen the normal chicken and the free range lilydale chicken at my local coles stores

      • Ugh, off to Woolworths on Tuesday then.

Beware of other first-world-problems on the way, and, of course, dropbears…

    • Is that normal roast chicken?

      Must be quite large

Link shows $ ∞, not really a bargain at that price…

      • So, no matter how much money you give them, there's never any change?

I remember being a tight student and waiting for the roast chooks to go on sale 20 mins b4 store closing time…used to be $2.50 - $3.50 per chook back in those days…pick up at least 2 chooks and that was my protein for a few days…I would whip up dishes like:

    1. chicken and sweet corn soup…surprisingly, the roast chicken makes the soup even better!
    2. chicken bones for broth in noodles + meat in noodles
    3. roast chook rolls/sandwiches
    4. roast chook spring rolls
    5. roast chook with vermicelli (viet style)
    6. roast chook stir-fry noodles
      etc…

You could probably tell that I am Asian; based on my dishes…LMAO

based on your dishes I had only ruled out the fact that you were vegetarian

      roast chook rolls/sandwiches

      The greatest Asian delicacy :P

      • +1

They should have asked for the ENTIRE chicken to make some chicken feet to go with the spring rolls.

    • +2

your name was a giveaway before you told us :)

      • Not really, maybe he just really really loves dumplings.

    • +1

man after all that chicken you got to be at least 7 foot tall and cup size D!

    • THIS! This deal is a moot point for me since I only ever buy roast chooks an hour or so away from closing time which means I only end up paying $3.50 or so..

    • +1

In lieu of marking chooks down, Coles strip the breast meat and throw the rest out these days.

  • If you have a costco near you, they sell a large (bigger than coles / woolies) rotisserie roast chicken for $8. Both in cold (e.g. you reheat) or nice and hot.

Tastes ALOT better than Coles or Woolies.

    • +3

If you have a costco near you…

but you have to fork out $60 for membership first…

      • Can always refund it if you are only thinking of getting it once. lol.
If you live near a costco, the chances are you prob already have a membership.

Its REALLY easy to make back that $60 from the saves, in about 1-2 grocery runs.

Fruits and Vegies is around half price at Costco.

        • Its REALLY easy to make back that $60 from the saves, in about 1-2 grocery runs.

I got membership last December when it was free…

Have been there 3 times since and probably saved $10-$20… Don't think I'll renew unless it's free again…

  • Coles family chicken seems to get a bit smaller when they are on discount…

    • Or it could just be that more people buy them when they're on special, and people naturally tend to take the larger ones first.

  • In Coles Macquarie centre, it is free range chicken for $8

    • +1

The "free range" is meaningless BS. At least, its not what you imagine.
Its not like meat chickens are ever kept in cages, that is for eggs.

      • Free range is also meaningless because as far as I know, there is no enforcible guidelines set by the regulations for the meaning of free range.

You can basically make the chicken grow up in a cage for 90% of its life, then the last 2 weeks before it becomes chicken on your table, they let it run free.

They can still call that free range.

Where as other things like Halal and Organic has very clear and strict regulations for their licence to call it Halal or Organic.

        • -2

Halal is easy - applies only to slaughter not the farm (say Allah while cutting the throat).
But where did you get the idea that organic means anything?
There is no official definition, and many certifying companies, with varying standards and levels of oversight.

  • Is this applicable to WA, or eastern states only?

    Coles Family Chicken $8

How much are the chickens for single people ?

    • +4

Its not the people that have families, its the chickens. You can get adopt an Orphan Chicken from coles for $9.

      • Cage or free range?

        • +2

Its caged, but when it reaches your house it is free range. lol.

  • Or you can buy a whole better tasting chicken from Red Rooster for $10.

    • Actually they're better at hungry jacks….
