China Southern is the worst airline I've ever flown; considering I've flown in Russia and South America, that's saying something.

Too true. Worst services especially check in at airport. The food and inflight entertainment as well. For the drink - i was given a glass of flat coke (eventually from the warm 2 litres of Coca Cola bottle). The other passenger had a 1/5, 1/6 or 1/8 glass of red wine. And lastly, no vomit bag in front of you.

    • Couldn't agree more - worst customer service! even AirAsia is better! The food is crap too…

Is this the case for Ex Perth as well?
I took a huge gamble flying China Eastern (different airline I know) from Singapore to Shanghai in May. Tons of really bad reviews most of which seemed to be for routes to and from the US. But the flight was cheap and the time was suitable for me after flying into Singapore from Europe. I thought what the hell, its only a 5 hour flight.

I was pleasantly surprised to find myself on a very modern A330 that had more room in economy seats than Singapore airlines, decent food and service and a modern touchscreen entertainment system that had great quality video. It was one of the best flights I had been in economy on. It was totally unexpected given the large amount of negative reviews of the airline.

The plane did nose dive during landing in Shanghai that scared the living shit out of everyone though :(

      • You were lucky to be on their new planes, which are not many among all the old ones. The service and food is on average worse than others I can tell you that. I'm a Chinese but I don't fly with mainland Chinese airlines when going back to China unless they are really cheap, which is not the case most of the time. I prefer Cathay Pacific and Qantas as they are reputable and not that expensive on average after all.

        • So it sounds like the planes they use out of Australia are not in the new plane category?
I'll steer clear of this then :)

        • @uradox: At ~$850 return to Paris from Perth, it was just fine.

      • This price is ex Perth…

        • Yes, I'm more concerned about the plane itself. If it's one of the new ones like I experienced out of Singapore then I would have no problems flying CSA. Otherwise, there is an avalanche of negativity associated with flying these Chinese carriers when they use the old ones.
So I was curious what aircraft they were using Ex Perth.

    • I've flown CS once to Nepal via Guangzhou.Apart from delays, it was quite ordinary, just like every low cost flight I've been On. $900 return ex Melbourne.

    • totally agree. I still remember that time we had to wait 2 hours on a loaded plane on the tarmac because they were too slow and missed their takeoff time and air traffic traffic wont let them fly for 2 hours..horrible

I will stay away of Chinese airlines. Most Chinese people talks loud and noisy and no manners especially old womens. My Bose QC saves me till the end.

  • They don't match Emirates or Singapore Airlines in terms of service and food quality, but they certainly compare positively against some of the European carriers (Air France, Lufthansa, etc).

    Nice deal!

  • Is this a one way or return fare?

    • return fare and include tax …

  • ….The only downside is that after you've been back an hour or so you want to go again!

  • I have just landed in Brisbane today morning with CZ381 and I had the same trip last year. No problem on both outward and inward flights both times. I have not travelled with Sing Air or anything from the Gulf but comparing with other major american, asian and european airlines I could not see any difference. Food is mediocre for me but I recon they are trying to suit asian audience. Entertainment system is adequate, e.g. touvhscreen, plenty of choice and they do not shutdown it during taking off and landing.
