  • Apparently, free shipping is not a bargain any more…

    Mods just moved another post to the forums… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/136364

    • Incorrect. It was a duplicate deal posted by the same poster. Free shipping can be a bargain.

      • It's not a duplicate, that one is for the digital version.

        The one you deleted is for the physical book, and you normally pay around $10 for postage.

        It's now free since it's end of July and book sales are decreasing…

        • I see. The title was misleading. Will discuss with other moderators.

    • Clarification here: I initially unpublished the Entertainment Book offer posted by SunnieCoast. Marking it as "Duplicate" was just me being lazy. However the post itself is merely highlighting a wiki page that we already have. There is really no point to re-post a random OzBargain wiki page as a new deal… unless all you are trying to do is to slap your own link somewhere in the post — which SunnieCoast did in both her posts, which was the reason I marked the latest one as a duplicate.

    Finally a Dan Murphy deal that works for out of towners.

    Free delivery in bold, excluding half the products

  • only works on mobile site. Thanks OP

    Excludes beer and RTDs.

    Why do they always exclude beer ???

    • must be freight costs due to higher weight, I believe star track do their deliveries ( in perth at least, they delivered my cut price chang!) and in the low end of the spectrum, cost of freight VS. weight does change quite quickly However the workaround of adding 1 cheap wine bottle seems to always score you the free delivery included even on beer orders. You can regularly find little clearance bottles for 1.99 or even under $1 sometimes.

      • must be freight costs due to higher weight,

        What's the difference in weight between a litre of wine and a litre or beer ?

        Shouldn't they differentiate by the volume you buy, rather than what the product is inside the bottle?

        They don't even differentiate based on price
        This wine qualifies for free shipping…
        and this beer doesn't

          It'd be a metric applied over the entire body of product. individually there may be cases where it doesn't make sense as you've highlighted, but in the overwhelming majority of cases it would be cost effective. I'm sure they regularly perform statistical analysis before they launch into such promotions to work out what is cost effective and what isn't. i bet they even accommodate use of work-arounds etc into such analysis and they can absorb all those outlying instance costs happily.

          Additionally beer is a low margin/high volume product, and wine is the opposite, so more margin can be consumed in freight costs of wine (and related) over beer.

          Dare you to call and ask the Dan Murphy's Customer Service Team on 1300 72 33 88.

          Report back here with the answer. I'm curious too. I'd call them myself but I'll let you take this task cos I get the feeling you're a lot more passionate about questioning things than I am :P

          @waterlogged turnip:

          Report back here with the answer

          It's not my deal… OP should post in description.

        • +2

          @jv: and the delivery exclusions of beer and RTDs aren't decided by the OP. The OP has posted a deal with the relevant details. If you personally have further questions re: the reasons behind certain terms and conditions, find out for yourself. It's not the OPs job to find out those things.

          but I think you don't really care about the reasons behind the exclusions… you just like having reason to complain lol

        • +1

          @waterlogged turnip:
          You are correct. all jv cares is to complain and have never got any useful stuff from him.
          Well there are beings living amount us like that.

    • Because they want people to try something other than beer

      • More like profit margin, they don't care what you drink just how much money they make.

        • what is their profit margin on wine vs beer ?

          There can't be too much profit in selling a dozen 750ml bottles of wine for only $33…

      • why? beer is vastly more complex than wine…

        • Nice troll. :p

        • -1

          @jubba:

          Nice troll

          Time you tried some real beer

        • @jv:

          i'm a bubble tea man. haha.

          Neither are wine nor beer is as complex as some scrumdidlyumcious bubble tea at chatime

    • Because they are worries about your beer belly!

  • What Constitute RTD?, does it include cider?

    • they usually group cider with beer…

    The cart they use is stupidly designed. Keeping the freight at the top and the subtotal as "Excludes Freight" means you have no idea until actual checkout if the freight free redemption code works (which of course it doesn't for my regional address). Then at check out you have no option to test the redemption code again. Close to being deliberately deceptive IMHO.

  • Can't get this code to work on two cases of wine, on either mobile or normal site, Sydney Metro delivery :(

  • It's annoying that there are some special offers only for delivery, lucky for me there this code otherwise I would pay an extra $8 on some spirits with pick up prices (or spend $7 on delivery but I'd rather pick up since I live 200m away from Dans).

    Long story short, it's silly I have to enter this code and have to get my drinks delivered for a good price when I live less than a five minute walk and would prefer to just pick it up for the delivery price.

    eg. https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_361633/patr-n-xo-ca…

    Guess Dans has a special deal with Aus Post or need desperately to boost deliveries?

    (I've checked and you can't order online for the delivery price click & collect. I also know my local Dans has stock of this spirit as I have been eyeing it off for the last week.)

  • What would people recommend as a nice (for the money) bottle of wine for up to about $20? Want to throw one in as part of a gift. Probably white, but open to suggestions for all types.

    Am not a drinker so feel like a complete fool going into buy a bottle and feel like I just get sold the stuff they can't get rid of.
