Klipsch Mode M40 Noise Cancelling Headphones $74.97 + Postage @ COTD

360

These headphones are a discontinued model. When they were first released in Australia they were close to $500, and some sites still have them for that kind of money.
Next cheapest I can find is $188.89 so this is cheap. These are very solid headphones, and a steal at roughly $80 delivered for active noise cancelling.

  • They come up as $99.95 + ph when I use the link provided.
    Still a good price.

    • Continue to checkout and you will see a 25% discount applied.

  • Just bought 2 pairs. Thanks OP! Have another pair of Klipsch headphones which sound fantastic and I've been very happy with. Looking forward to checking out these bad boys… Wanted something sturdy after those flimsy Creative Aurvana phones from a while back! :)

  • FANTASTIC!!!!! $8.97 shipping for 2 pairs to SE Melb & we had $10 store credit for some reason!
The Mrs has been looking for a good pair for her and her business partner as they travel a fair bit, and I can't say I was keen on her spending $200-$300 or more each when we needed 2 pairs!!!

Don't get these guys, I used to sell them at my last job and they're pretty horrible.
They're extremely heavy, uncomfortable and after a couple of months the noise cancelling will stop working. Doesn't help that it has the worst noise cancelling to start with…

Do a google search on it, it's a common problem. Highest warranty return of any product ever.

It was discontinued after just one year of being in the market, guess why.

      Thanks for the comment.
Appreciate it as I was fighting the Ozbargain Reflex of automatically buying anything that sounds good!

      even for $75?

  • +1

I'm resisting the urge to purchase. Already have QC15 and PSB M4U2. Perks of working at a hifi store I suppose. I have heard these and they are good, but for $75 they are very good

  • Wait for another round of UE6000 to go on discount. I bought a pair of those from Dicksmith for $85. Great sound for that price. But the noise cancelling is not so good I use it as a passive headphone. But the noise cancelling gives you that extra bit of volume.

  • Am just starting to travel a fair bit for work and want to know whether these are worth it or not ….

    @drpants says no
    @johnno1987 says yes

what say you Ozbargain community ?

    • If you don't own any other ANC I'd say it's a steal unless you're willing to wait it out and pay a premium for Bose ANC when they're on sale. I personally love my QC20's and can't go back to the other brands of ANC. Sure they may have better SQ or cheaper, but Bose have the everyday business traveller market cornered.

Summary - uncomfortable and ANC breaks in couple of months

  • Was tempted to buy for fun and see how it goes but then saw the Engadget review:

"On paper, the M40s read as if they're a dream to wear, with leather-wrapped memory foam earpads. Sadly, however, the design of the M40s killed any chance of them being remotely comfortable for more than 20 minutes. "

  • I understand that there's better ones around; some are unhappy with them; if you Google for problems you'll find some reports (but have been replaced by the company); and for those that use them on a daily basis, I can definitely see the reasoning behind spending more on something better again… But with the amount of favourable (4 star) reviews for these things; they come with 12 month warranty (+ whatever the ACCC thinks); and at $75; are we really going to get anything even close (bang for buck wise)?
The only consistent negative I can really find is that they're a tighter fit… which won't be great for my boof head!!!

Agreed it's a steal relative to other ANCs of brands which aren't in the same league normally, but the key point of ANC headphones is usually to wear for a long time to block out noises/distractions… if most reviewers have found it pinches the ears (and head) a lot to isolate, then that is a deal breaker regardless of the price/quality of every other aspect. Unless you have the physique which wont' be adversely affected by this in which case it's a real bargain.

      • True! Well they're not for me, we'll see what the Mrs and her colleague thinks. If not, there's a good chance we should recoup our money!

    • +1

The tight fit will make me pass on these …

  • is it sold out now?

    • nup - just got a pair. Sadly, before I read all of the above - but for the $$$ - I am happy. Only for travel and very limited music sessions at home late at night so should be fine.

  • Almost gone…

  • +1

it doesn't show out of stock to me, i am able to add it to my cart and apply the discount…

BTW this is a perfect gift idea, they will appreciate the present(especially if they look up the rrp) and in case it brakes after a few months…who cares? :)

  • Thanks OP. I picked up a pair. Still available.

  • Cheers got some!

  • Cheers johnno, just got a pair after holding out on getting QC15s for almost a year

    • +1

and you'll end up getting the qc15's in a few months anyway ;)

      • Couldn't resist

Hahaha. I don't travel much so I don't really need the ANC but I've just wanted one anyway to complement my AKG Q701s and ATH-M50s

  • +1

I can still add these to my cart… So not sure why it's listed as Expired?

    • When you get to the payment screen "Quantity ordered not available".

  • Couldn't resist.

  • Looking for a more compact version - doesn't have to be this brand - something that doesn't take up too much room, mainly to be used for flying. Any ideas?

    • bose qc20

  • A question for people who already have experience with noise cancelling headphones, are they likely to be better than earbuds under earmuffs when using a ride-on lawnmower? I'm looking for a more comfortable and quieter solution, and <$100 is appealing.
