  • Dear customer,

Sorry, the product(s) is currently out of stock. And backorder is not available for this product now.

I knew I should've gone good guys yesterday!

    • And like others my online order is showing Ready for Pickup!

  • +1

Went to Ultimo store (as they dont answer phone) , and they said "your email confirmation is of no value". They didnt even apologize. they said the order is canceled. as they have no stock and dont know if they ll have anymore in future!!

    • +1

Exactly the same thing happen to me, like 20 min ago

    • Ouch. Other branches aren't like that

    • +2

i heard it is common for MSY they are the cheapest but dont expect any customer service at all. still, people go there because again, they are the cheapest

  • +3

If MSY don't come out with a statement or start offering people the opportunity to obtain stock at this price, then it might be worth taking the issue to the ACCC, as clearly many people missed out on the special. Under the Australian Consumer Law a retailer who runs a special needs to have a level of stock to match what might be reasonably expected to be the demand from such an offer. Clearly so far MSY haven't done this. Nor have they put in place a consistent method of meeting the demand of those that missed out on this offer.

    • +1

Well and having the "we'll let you preorder with free shipping" on the advertisement won't help their case either.

    • +2

Worse than that. They failed to follow their own offering by allowing people to buy/order yesterday, a day prior to the beginning of the deal. That is supported by the fact that later the same day, they corrected the Sunday price back to $26.

Moreover, they have explicitly stated on their website, on the same page setup for this promotion, to allow back order at the promotional price of any order that is unable to be fulfilled during the promotion, and would deliver it to your door free of charge.

If anyone follows it through, MSY would be spanked.

      • I didn't actually see that or would have argued it this morning when I was at the Balcatta MSY in WA.

  • I got my cards this morning. Great deal. Very happy with MSY

  • At 3pm today on-line I bought 5 at $9 for pick up in store. Back in stock at several stores at the time.

    • No cards for me to pick up when I visited 3pm today. "out of stock" I was told. How come it let me put them in my cart? I'd used pay at store.

  • Went to VIC mitcham, pretty arrogant staff. They said no stock and apparently MSY always have preorders same day? I saw this 2 days ago and thought I'd wait for it.. damn

Anyone able to send me 3 cards? Lol

They also won't do the free shipping as their warehouse is sold out.

I called dandenong store, same story.

    • I had no problem with the Mitcham branch. They actually allowed me to buy more than 5 in two separate invoices. Their customer service are not too bad. Probably tired of customers asking them for stocks. Lol

  • +4

BAD BAD advertising if they cant fulfil their promise to send the goods for free once the item is out of stock during promotion period.
    ACCC here we come!!!

  • +1

So here's my current tale, I made a purchase online via the MSY site to have the items picked up at the Auburn NSW store.

    10-08-2014 13:23:19 - Date Of Order
    Preparation in progress - Status

I know for a fact that the USB and SD card are now sold out at that branch. If they did not allocate stock for my pickup order, this will be the most disappointing customer service received. What's the point of a allocation/store pickup system if you're not going to abide by it?

    Fingers crossed…

    • +1

same here mate i ordered for pick up at auburn and still says preparation in progress pretty bad i only ordred 1 not like i am being greedy.

      • It's probably likely it'll be cancelled, mine was as well and I chose pick up at auburn too.

        • Then ill be contacting accc

        • @holden93: Yeah good luck with that…Tell me how much they don't care.

  • Should I be worried if I ordered online (for delivery) and it still says "Payment accepted" in the status?

    • Email their customer service team, I have someone looking into my order now. Chances are they might just offer a refund or ship stock from available stores.

    • +3

I also ordered online for delivery, and moments ago received an email saying there was a problem with payment and to contact them. Payment is showing up in authorized transactions on my account.

      Convenient?

This was after they refused to backorder for my wife earlier in the day despite showing them their website.

  • +4

meh it's MSY, what do we expect?

Half the problem is people on here buying 40 cards at a time.

Just wait for the next one

  • Just picked mine up from Malvern…Received the "ready to pick up" email.
Asked if they had any-more available and they said what was remaining was for online orders already reserved.

  • Popped into the Malvern store at about 4:30pm as I'd read that they were expecting a shipment at 4pm. Got the front of the line and the sales person there said that there was no stock. I asked then for a backorder/to be put on a waiting list and he said that he's been told by head office to not accept any more back orders or to add anyone to the waiting list. He was telling other people in line to try the Cheltenham branch.

Pretty disappointing, not really for the fact they didn't have any stock in store, but more that they refused to take back orders even though they advertise that fact on the flyer.

  • just picked up my 3 from elizabeth SA store, ordered them via email this morning. no more stock there but didnt ask if they were doing backorders or not.

pretty happy all round with MSY

  • Decided to pay for yesterday's order (5 delivered, paid by bank deposit today) rather than chance no stock for future promised free deliveries (pay $9 in store & it'll be posted, honest). That early order was insurance against these expected problems.
$11+ delivery seemed dear yesterday, but worth it today.

  • +3

Placed an order for 3 SD cards through over the phone. served by a lady, confirmed it's ok to pick up.
went to store, and said nothing was left.

  • +3

I got to Auburn store right on opening (10:30 am)

I was about 20 back in the que, as I watched everyone in front of me get their 5 cards each.

By the time I got close enough to the counter to almost smell it, they were sold out.

100 cards gone in 30 minutes, and 30 minutes of time wasted for nothing……………..

Then, one of the checkout guys plastered signs on the shop façade,,,, "32 GB Cards sold out"

    • +1

They probably resell them on ebay LOL

    • I do actually feel sorry for you there Cobba after all that effort… along with xpbear and the other hundred of others on here.

I was in line and bought the last five in stock. Ha, no just joking. Got the email saying 'no stock no backorder come again'.

Anyway, good luck to the ebay resellers the cheeky bastards

  • MSY should get punished by ACCC for this..

They still not learnt their lessons from their last fine.

    • +2

msy should stick with maximum 2. pick up only. id required. same surname, not allowed.

      • +1

        Same surname is tough

      • +1

Legally they couldn't use the same surname is not allowed.

  • +1

Just went in the MSY shop in Clayton. They were out of 32GB card and did not let me order them with free-shipping as advertised. Never again!

  • +1

people are forgetting how many cards they have probably sold ….. there was never going to be enough for everyone and MSY arent in the business of bulk buying - i am surprised they had as many as they did, especially considering there past record. how many offers like this have been on from the likes of MSY etc etc. The Tapking bare lasted 2 hours, the Shell fuel voucher lasted may be half a day and the list goes on and on.

    • +2

MSY Morningside had 5 cards in stock. The staff there weren't even aware of the promo.

      • bugger, i checked the online store availability and it said morningside sold out :(

        • +1

Like most stores, stock levels showed low stock last night. So 5 there at start of sale, as staff didn't know of sale & no stock was brought in for it.

    • Yeah limit 5 per customer would killed the deal in hours even they have a lot of stock

  • Just went to msy north melbourne and asked for a back order and of course they said no! I did complained for a while and he said if i got an email which says they have a promotion like the newseltter then he'd allow me to back order! Unfortunatly I dont have that email! So for who have that email and around north melbourne store. You can give it a try!
If you have that email. Can you please PM me? If i have that email i can give it another try tomorrow!

    Hope it'd help!

    • The details about ordering out of stock items is right there in the newsletter linked in this deal:

      http://edm.msy.com.au/11082014/online/html.html

… or am I misunderstanding what they've said to you? Do they want to see it in an email as well as their own newsletter which they put out there?!

      • +1

yeah he asked for the email. well I guess it just one of the way they try to get away from honouring their promotion.

  • So is the sale still on?

I see the website is STILL accepting orders.

Will they just take the money and disappear??

    • They dont allow you to add to cart if the store you choose is out of stock! There are still some store has stock!

      • I can still add them to the cart.

It is the adding the cart to my card is what i'm worried about… lol

        • worry that you spend more money on thing you don't really need? did you order it?

  • it's a joke, ordered online and have stock when ordering. assumed stock been reserved. no email/contact from them for pick up ready. contact them and said no stock now.

    • Even you got a email you may not be able to get it

  • +3

MSY can't really advertise back-ordering and then deny it. Sounds very much like "Misleading and Deceptive Conduct"
Also, it is expected that if there is a sale then there should be enough stock to cover the expected demand unless they state otherwise (eg Aldi/ Rivers)

  • +1

So it appears as though their order online and pick up your purchase instore is a load of b***. I will be taking this further (whether that be constant harassing emails or irate social media rants)

    This is a reply I received and my response;

    Hi there,

The 32G micro SD on special has been sold out.

We will try to order more from our supplier, but there is no ETA yet.

    Best Regards,
    (Nameless MSY Person)

    to MSY

    Hi,

I appreciate the reply but this is pretty poor form. I placed the order on Sunday and I made double sure the items were in stock for me to setup a reservation and pickup.

I would like to keep this order active and will be happy to wait on more stock.

If you are unable to source stock I would appreciate an offer of an equivalent make/model & price.

Can you confirm if the second item I reserved (patriot mobility stellar boost xt 64gb) is ready for me to pick up?

Please keep me updated on the status of this order.

    Regards

(Bear in mind I ordered Sunday afternoon when stock wasn't an issue - 1PM)

    • stock was an issue when they actually look at all their order :) some honoured some not so lucky

  • Its annoying as I been monitoring the MSY website since yesterday wanting to put through an order for 2 but couldn't. More annoying to see people buying so many with the intention of making a small profit.

Emailed and pleaded with my local store in Melbourne to place an order and allocation had already been exhausted. Would've been happy just score one in order to avoid swapping cards all the time in my tablet.

Shouldn't have been 5 per customer.

  • +2

For a computer shop, their web server is just pathetic

  • +1

$9 deals from MSY always turn sour.
If you don't like it, unsubscribe from their spam & shop elsewhere.

  • +1

I was like u guys really pissed yesterday. Anyways i wanted to by microsd card as well as usb. Since they ran out of stock,i orderred online for a usb pick up.
I went to the pascoe vale store around 3pm. I asked if for microsd card if available by any chance? They refused straight away.
The guy who served me was really friendly and i asked him he can atleast give me my usb.
I don't know what came into his mind while processing my order request,he also gave me one microsd card as well.
For me….thats the best.+1 for msy.

    • Puppy eyes?

    • +3

MSY use the "treat you like garbage" strategy first, then when they use the "treat you like a normal customer" strategy, you will think they are gods and praise them!

      it worked!

  • MSY re-stock some in Adelaide CBD store. Placed an order and keep fingers crossed.

  • +1

I tried going to the Clayton store before 5pm as per the stated shipment due then.

Flat out refused to back order, kept saying NO stock anywhere, that they wont get any more stock at that price.

How the hell could they sell out within less than 30 mins of the stores opening (at 10:30), when it only showed up on with the price of $9 on their site at around 11am, (when I ordered), then 30 mins later, they cancelled my order with a very brief email saying no stock.

I'm guessing they just disregarded many of the online orders and sold mostly to walk ins.
I would not have a issue if it was a pick up sale only (as it should have been?), in a first in, first served/lucky,but limited deal. I would have gone to a store this morning if I knew this.

Its F**ked up that the sale went active yesterday for a short? period of time. The sale was for today, not yesterday.

Again, whats the (profanity) point of an online order?,when they just cancel it and say no stock.
Its obvious their back order option as stated on the promo (in store) is absolute BullS**t.

I have revoked my + for this sale/bargain.

  • We all have different experiences with MSY in this instance.
As other posters have noted. Different stores, different service.

Mine. Ordered 3 micros sunday afternoon around 12.45pm.
Monday morning 11.00am received email: ready for pickup at Hurstville(SYD).
Paid and picked up that afternoon instore. Very happy.

Just a note. During purchase showed as free delivery, but further along the online processing had no option for payment, only for pickup and store payment, so I went for that as I had nothing to loose.

    Thanks Silent1.

    • Same, I ordered 2 Sunday afternoon and received ready for pickup email Monday morning (Hurstville), and just picked up my order this morning :)

  • +1

Even though I secured one on order on Saturday.
Got a nasty surprise that people have ordered it even before Saturday.
So they just cancel my order. Mine was Hurstville pickup too.

    • +1

that's what people complained about. They don't do what they suppose to do and don't honour their promotion

  • picked up mine about 2:30 PM ordered on Sunday before they changed their price back to $26. shop was empty and they had big out of stock thingy at the counter. well some what lucky me LoL.

  • just ordered 1 at MSY Brooklyn. They are back in stock! I hope it will go through

    • +1

Really? This is the store that told me that they had exhausted all their stock yesterday and wouldn't get anymore in stock.

      • yup they sent me an email says my order is ready to pick up 1 hour before they close. 50' later i read it. Lucky that i live close to it. I was the last customer today.
They still have like 5 in the box but probably for other who already ordered but didn't pick up today
They allowed me to order last night and it lasted for 20' before it out of stock again. I guess I just lucky

        • Indeed you are. Unfortunately, every time I checked it said sold out.

I will need to be more persistent next time.

        • @cheepo: I didn't expect I'd be able to get it at all

  • +1

So who is going to spam the ACCC this morning?

  • More showing available in a few stores, Pascoe Vale, NSW Online, SA Online, Qld online, Adelaide. I know it's a waste of time but I put in another order for 5. They open at 10:30 so I expect the email saying they have no stock at 10:35.

    • +2

It took them until 11:19 to bother sending the email saying they had no stock.

  • +3
    • At around 2:00, why everyone is laughing? English is not my 1st language. Thanks for your explanation.

  • +1

What's the point of ordering online and picking up in store, while the store has no respect of your business?

  • Newsletter this morning has "SOLD OUT" across the $9 micro-sd, so doubt they would now honour deal online or in-store as suggested above.

  • It is quite evident that certain stores don't really follow the online orders or what the MSY website says regarding backorders. My experience with the Elizabeth store has been excellent. The usual asian sales guy there has really good customer service. This store followed the online order allocation and did not sell the stock to walk in customers if they were already sold out.

    • +1

Its SA, he doesnt want to end up 'living' in a bank.

      • +1

My experience with the Elizabeth store has been excellent.

yep never had an issue with eliz, they have always held stock if i email them asking to hold it for me.

then again i never had an issue with the city one when i used to use that one, but i have had a lot of experience dealing with wholesalers and i think that is more the level of service you get with MSY.

Its SA, he doesnt want to end up 'living' in a bank.

watch it queenslander…. i still have some spare barrels and a ute…. your not that far away you know…. ;)

        • Its you're. I dont own 'that far away'. :D

  • Useless ORDERING ONLINE & flagging as for PICK UP. Branch manager told me that there has been no exchange of money so we really haven't entered into any contract! The item has since become out of stock! That was after telling him that there were plenty of stock during my order. Was told that I actually need to confirm it. OR next time place the order and pay for it immediately. That way it will be allocated.

    • It has nothing to do with a contract. They offered them for sale, no limits were mentioned, and then went on to say that if they sold out, they would mail them to you free when they came back in stock.

Ask them to explain what that means? The only out they might have is if this was not meant for publication instead limited to a few recipients by email, but it went viral and was OzBargained like a mofo.

      • +1

thats the best excuse the manager can do. As most of us should know by now, it's just a waste of time arguing with them. It is obvious this saga shows incompetence in their part.

Problem would have been… they didn't check the ONLINE ORDERS and sold them out to WALK IN customers.

        • They get away with it because those they sting just get angry, rant on the itnerwebs, and then do nothing more. See by doing nothing that matters, thats them getting away with it.

But they can not legally do what it is they are claiming. You wont get your card, but they will get fined by the ACCC. If they do it enough times the fines get bigger each time. They will stop sooner or later.

Its up to us as Australians to utilise the laws we have in place. The ACCC is not a police force actively looking for wrong doing in every nook and cranny of the market place, it mus be brought to their attention. That is your responsibility, or opportunity if you prefer.

See if it was a contract you would get your card, or compensation for the loss of a bargain if you sued, but as it is not a contract, they get fined for false advertising, misleading or deceptive practices or similar depending on all the facts. There must be a contract for you to have standing to sue in contract law. Thats the crack they want to slip through. The Australian consumer law system is on top of that though, thus the ACCC. They can pursue them here, where you can not. But you must bring it to the attention of the ACCC.

I managed to put a delivery order for 4 cards through while the website was getting slammed, payment went through and got an order number.

I asked them if they were going to be able to fulfil delivery orders like mine and apparently they will, if anyone else is wondering.

    "Dear Customer,

We will fulfil all those placed order. But as you mentioned, we have a massive demand, so we have to make a special order from supplier to fulfil back order.
In that case you order will be delay."

    • Good to see that. I only paid for my Sunday order (for delivery) yesterday, in case there was stock in store.

      • +1

my order status has changed from "payment received" to "validated", so I guess it's going to be honored.

  • Ordered last night at 3am and got it confirmed before they close 1 hour

  • OK Cards have sold out, my question is if the 64gb USB is any good to buy? Anyone?

  • +1

Can anyone advise the best and most effective way of dealing with this through the ACCC?

    • +1

      http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/complaints-problems

      More specifically
      http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/misleading-claims-advertisi…

If by dealing with, you hope to get your card, you will be disappointed. But if you mean having their tactics scrutinised, and then an official response from government, use the link above. At the very least, if you make a complaint, and others do the same, and it happens on several deals, be assured you will likely read about MSY and the ACCC on the news one night. This is how this stuff works usually.

Give them a link here, show them the deal promo stuff including offers to post free if they were out of stock etc.

      "Bait advertising
Bait advertising takes place when an advertisement promotes certain (usually ‘sale’ prices) on products that are not available or available only in very limited quantities. It is not misleading if the business is upfront in a highly visible, clear and specific manner about the particular product ‘on sale’ being in short supply or on sale for a limited time."

I would suggest the offer to post for free to anyone who comes in store and misses out, removes any qualification based on amounts available.

  • Picked up my order today that i put through on Sunday. Was surprised they didn't cancel it

  • Placed online order Monday morning at Slacks Creek (closest to work) as Brendale was closed due to public holiday. Order still in processing stage late Monday night. Wife tried Brendale this morning in person, got the completely sold out, no backorders shenanigans others have reported.

Mid morning I get unexpected email that order is ready for pickup. Drive over expecting to be told it was an error. After a bunch of fussing about, then not being able to find my order in their system, despite me having my order number, then they found the order in the system but told me they were sold out, I eventually got my order that had been put aside for me the whole time.

Very happy with end result, but what a bunch of clowns to deal with.

    • Why did you get negged? :/

      • Probably for my appalling sentence structure (or lack thereof).

        • ah, I was going to say, it's not like you were siding with MSY
