Can't find mention of the amperage rate of those USB ports. 1A? 500mA?

What about the surge protection rating? I've had a few beers so maybe I'm missing something?

…It's a no deal from me.

    • +1

      2 x 1A

      • Thanks

      • That's a shame.

        • -6

          That's a shame.

          Shame on you :p

    • This is awful. < 45ns response time, low joules!

      (See the crest australia website).

Surprisingly their $40 powerboards (as low as $25? at supermarkets in the past) are quite good!

    • +1

Both of my questions answered. Why couldn't they put that in their eBay ad I wonder?

      Anyhow, thanks.

  • +1

Am I missing something - looks like $7 plus $5 shipping ilo of the stated $7 shipped

    • +4

sorry part of ebay frenzy; forgot to add code; will amend

      • +1

        No worries - Thanks

  • That's slow as..

  • Thanks. Bought one

  • How does this plug into a socket?
Does it have a cord or just piggyback?

    • +13

      Wireless.

    • +2

Piggyback. I bought one on the weekend. Arrived today. Nice little unit, worth buying

      • Btw, the plug is on the back of the left hand side plug, where the USB's are.

  • Happy with that :) 1A is fine

  • Is this a GPO? Double adapter? Or a cable and plug not shown?

  • +5

is specifically designed to filter and clean electricity in your home.

    I can't stand dirty electricity…

    • +9

Dirty Electricity comes from lumpy coal.

  • USB power enough to power up a raspberry PI & chromecast :)

  • +4

This is a little more but higher USB Amp http://www.bunnings.com.au/adapter-usb-charger-arlec-w-dual-… 3.1A $18.80

    • 2.5x the cost, and single AC outlet.

    • Do you know if that 3.1A is shared? ie: if I plug 2 devices in there will they both get 3.1A each or drop to ~1.5A?

I only really need 2A for my devices right now but 3A would be nice to have for the next round of tech. The single AC outlet doesn't bother me as I have surge protection boards all over the house anyway thanks to DSE :)

      • I was too late to edit above post. 3.1A is shared, so that'd be 2 x 1.5A when using both. Seems a bit messy, I'd rather the other one for $23.90 http://www.bunnings.com.au/hpm-adaptor-with-usb-charger-4-2a… that does 4.2A (2 x 2.1A)

$23.90 is a bit of money though, maybe better just buying a few wall chargers for that price :)

  • Is this a wall outlet?

  • +1

That dammed code I get X-FREE: The maximum number of times this Redemption Code can be used has been reached, and it can no longer be used. when I get to paypal

    • Don't know if you read the reply to your comment yesterday but if you haven't used the code three times already, something weird is up.

  • Quick question: does this mean it can charge 2 iPads through usb at the same time?

    • +1

      yes but very slowly

      as Stated its 1A

      You want 2.1A for tablets

      • Thanks Beghern

      • Same link mate, It's relisted

        • +1

Current link shows 'This item is out of stock.' for me. If it is actually in stock again, can you report it as such.

  • think i bought the last two. good find OP.

  • I try to order it from their website and check out with paypal but the redemption code said it cannot be used with this auction site. lolx.. Well, at least I tried

    • pretty sure the deal is with ebay, not their own website

  • 7 left as of now

  • +2

Back in stock, says 10 available when i just checked. This only protects upto around 500 joules, which is still good, but I'm going to pass but good deal OP. Crest sell other versions that protect upto 1000+ joules but you wont be paying $7 for it as its like $20

    • +1

yes in stock again i just bought one. thanks op

  • +2

Available on their site with store pick up.

  • +1

i have this. it is quite hot when used to recharge iphone. dunno if it is normal.

    • +1

      it's only 1A ports

    2 X 5 Volt D.C. 1 Amp USB charging ports

    5 year product warranty

    Specifications, Surge Protector

Energy absorption: 525 joules 18,000 amps
Response time <25 nano seconds.EMI/RFI Filtration up to 40dB

  • Question: 1 Amps is mentioned as slow as some here, but i thought most pwoer packs were output 1Amp?

How much is your standard direct socket charger you get with your phone - say the samsung s3? WHich i've got, i have noticed it charges alot faster than say usb to usb from my laptop, or a powerpack, but i thought that your wall socket charger is meant to be same amps as any other charger - doesn't it stuff up the electronic device charging at a different amps? or only if it is more than the recommended/max?

Says "surge" protection - but is there a standardised industry standard in terms of protection? What should one look for as a minimum? Or just not shown on this product?

    • +1

Samsung S3 charger is 1a. USB from laptop is 0.5a.

Chargers with more amps than your phone will only draw what it needs which is probably close to a max of 1a. If the charger has only .5a it'll just take longer.

And then you get chargers which can deliver 2a but do it incredibly messy. It'll take your phone longer to charge than a quality 1a charger. Kind of like filling a bucket with a hose on fountain setting as opposed to stream.

      • Thanks that explains it very well. QUality over quantity at your phones maximum sounds liek the way to go (than say even a higher ampage that's low quality - the whole fountain hose in a bucket thing).

That said… ideally then everyone complaining of 1Amp being inssuficient i assume current day phones post samsung s3's are alot higher intake than 1Amp?

The max ampage is regulated by the phones internals?

        • +1

I think the S5 charger is putting out 2a so 1a ports would be too slow. Most tablets want more than 1a too.

And yes it's the device which specifies how fast it wants to charge at. My Iphone 4 uses .6 to charge but closer to .8 while charging and using at the same time. So there's .2 of leeway on the genuine iphone charger of 1a.

      • USB 2 is 0.5amp
        USB 3 is 0.9amp

        • strange, how come some usbs and stuff don't power up or register via my usb3 yet work fine as soon as i plug into usb 2? I assumed it was insufficient power (Through usb 3)?

        • @SaberX:
USB3 can be a pain in the ring. I've used premium, custom-built laptops that do the same thing… & sometimes the opposite. Devices will only work in USB3 port. Charging can be the sam problems. They won't be recognised, but they'll charge. Personally, I only rely on AC adaptors. Double the power (or more), and they simply work. I don't trust $2 el cheapo ones with my $500+ devices, though.

        • @Utopian:

True… but then now adays you don't know what ac adaptors are cheap china rip offs and which sell for more but are still cheap quality.. only those that com ewith your phone i tend to reuse.. then again if what you said is true, in a yr or two my s3 usb charger will deliver insufficient amps anyway to phones that might use the same usb charger but require 2, 3amps?

HMmm yeah it's strange… things will charge or light up or 'power' per se, but won't really power on e.g. no recognition of a usb device in the slot.

Is this technically 'insufficient' power? Or a connection issue/compatability issue between the usb3 protocol and computer?

A few dollars more than the bunnings charger above gives 2 x 2.1 plus 240v
    http://www.bunnings.com.au/hpm-adaptor-with-usb-charger-4-2a…

    • I would not call $16 a few dollars more.

      • -1

        Can't read eh?
        $23.90 - $18.80 =?

        • -1

Where did u get $18.80 for the Crest one OP posted here with free shipping?
          Should be $23.90-$7=?

        • @wtfnodeal: Could you not read where I said "bunnings charger above"?
          Obviously not.

        • @Davros: oh. I thought you were replying someone's comments a year ago. Could you not make good use of the reply feature? Obviously not.

        • -1

          @wtfnodeal: "Oh I thought GRRRRRR"
You sound angry, there there (pats on head)

Its OK, you wont die if you admit you made a mistake.

        • @Davros: I am in fact happy that you finally learn to use the reply feature. Btw I didn't neg you. I guess someone enjoys watching our comments a pouring some fuel over it.

        • -1

@wtfnodeal: I did make it clear I was talking about the bunnings charger, thats why I said "A few dollars more than the BUNNINGS charger above" and not, "a few dollars more than the CREST charger above."
          Seems obvious to me.

Its a shame you still can't admit that you had an issue with comprehension. Oh well.

        • -1

          @Davros:
          Pot-Kettle-Black.

It was a mistake for someone to suggest a single AC outlet charger for 2.5x cost. Then someone-else (helloooo) went even further off course. A few more posts, and we'd only be a few dollars more than $50.

  • +3

Looks like back in stock again if anyone is interested.

  • Still working thanks to Sevensmurfs

  • How does this work? Does it plug into the existing PowerPoints or needs to be installed by a sparkie?

    I'm interested!

    • Would say plugs into existing powerpoints

      but can someone confirm?
