      Tablet wallpaper?

      • +2

        Hey, that's a Trademarked concept Steptoe :P

  • Is this the same tablet (bezel looks larger)? http://www.dgtec.com.au/products/tablet/dgtec-tablet-7

    • +1

No i dont think so.. your link has a link to the manual http://www.dgtec.com.au/LiteratureRetrieve.aspx?ID=4481 which has a different spec CPU just to begin with..

      • You're right, my bad. Does this thing really have 16GB memory built it? I find that hard to believe though.

        • +1

That's like saying a computer with a 4TB hard drive has 4TB of inbuilt memory. No it's 512mb ram and 16gb of flash storage data space.

        • +1

          @hollykryten:

Sorry, I meant storage when I said memory :)

    • +11

It's supposedly got a model number of TB512-16G. That only comes up under the Onix brand, apparently sold by Aldi:

Most of the specs match up. Seems like this one has a slightly better front camera, and a newer Android version.

I have the TB07 from a previous deal, for $40. As you can see in the images, it's different - the front camera is on the top right corner, while this one has it in the middle.

Lemme tell you, it's a piece of shit.

Can't really complain for the price, though. I guess it works.

Just as a warning, my biggest gripe would be the screen. Text on the screen is quite blurry. I don't know if the model in this deal is better, but I wouldn't bet on it. Those people saying you can use it as an eBook reader? You're better off using your phone, if you have a decently modern one. My Galaxy S2 was easier to read on, by far. (Edit: it's much better if you turn up the font size. So that's an option.)

Also not much good with multiple apps at once (single-core, remember?).

That said, if you only use it for a single task (forget web browsing), it could serve decently well as a music player. You can hook it up to a set of speakers and use it with Spotify Connect, for example. Don't expect miracles with the sound quality, but it's not noticeably worse than most phones.

The one I have (TB07) is an RK2926. This one apparently comes with an RK2906. See Wikipedia for details, but to summarise:

The RK2906 is basically a cost-reduced version of the RK2918

The Rockchip RK2926 and RK2928 feature a single core ARM Cortex A9 running at a speed up to 1.0 GHz. It replaces the Vivante GC800 GPU of the older RK291x series with an ARM Mali-400 GPU.

Basically, this deal has an older CPU. It does have four times the L2 cache, though, which is weird.

Other differences would be the greater storage size (16 GB > 4 GB) and the additional rear camera (but that's 2 MP anyway, so… might as well grab that Telstra Pulse phone from HN for $18).

    • It'd be this on here

      CPU 1.0 GHz Processor
      512MB RAM
      800 x 480 Resolution

      Courtesy of Whirlpool

      • We've mentioned above that the TB-07 is a different model. This deal is the TB512-16G. The camera is in a different place, the CPU is different, the storage is different…

Bought one of these tablets a while back. You pay for what you get. It's battery isn't all too good and seems to take a fair while to charge than it should. Otherwise it's fine for some email and casual internet browsing, maybe an odd game here and there.

    • +4

Thanks. Save me the time for returning it.

  • Got one for $35.16 shipped sydney metro!

  • +11

At this price I guess you could buy it as a digital photo frame.

    • +5

I was thinking of it as a glorified desk clock with weather info as well.

      • Does it come with AC power supply and dock?
(probably I wanted too much for the price). :)

        • A charger probably, dock is unlikely.

        • The other model (TB07)came with a charger, so I imagine this one does also.

        • @Rex87: Has any tablet ever come without a charger?

    • +6

Status monitor for my Raspberry Pi torrent box.

      • what's a torrent box?

        • My sharehouse has a tiny little computer without a screen plugged into our network. It runs a VPN and a torrent client that you can access over a web interface.

Because it only draws ~5-10 watts from a USB power supply, we can leave it on overnight and use significantly less power than a desktop or laptop, and it dumps content in a central location for all of us.

  • Cheers, got two for $66 shipped :D

  • 7"! Good Dick.

    • 4 people have a sense of humor. 4 don't.

      • +1

Another person without a sense of humor. How sad :(

  • +8

How heavy are these? Need to know as they will become doorstops in no time.

    • +3

probably more of a paperweight or bookend is my guess. Although if you wedge it in right it might serve as a doorstop

  • +1

    Kids tablet?

    • Yeah, should be able to do media and ebooks and some basic games/ educational apps.

  • What do you reckon the performance of this will be like? Comparable to a galaxy S1?

  • just ordered the netgear modem, is there any way of cancelling that and adding this to my order to save on shipping? i dont use ebay generally so a bit ignorant there.

    • use the contact seller function

      • cheers, i just tried that. i got a message back saying that they are 'out of the office due to an increase in messages because of the 20% off sale" and they will get back to me tomorrow.

        • I've got that at other times. Despite what they say, I've found it usually takes about a week for eBay message responses. Their Facebook staff is much more helpful.

        • +22

They've gone away because of increased demand? I wish my work was like that!

  • +1

I've been wanting a cheap tablet just for reading comics on. At $35 why the hell not! Nice find, OP.

  • +2

OP - So you were the one that ordered 60 X 2? :D

  • +2

Hey, it's a good price IF you need something like this. E.g. something for a young kid that might break it or something for the morning train or bus commute or travel where it won't matter if it gets damaged or stolen.

Hmmm, come to think of it, $30 even if it's just for use as an alarm clock is an ok price…

    Can't resist…. no I don't really need it… but it's hard to resist.

    I'm a bloody Ozbargainer! :-o

    • I know what you mean!! sigh

  • Gee, Some one bought 2 lots of 60 tablets each, Which one of you did this and what is your reason? Am generally curious :P

    • thats just greedy…hopefully my order still gets fulfilled.

    • +1

its for business purposes, alot of companies use these for sales presentations etc instead of laminated paper these days.

      • Fair enough

      • +1

Hate to be the client of a business that would use these…

  • +4

bought one, thanks alot ozbargain….will go nicely with the $49 blaupunkt soundbar I bought a while back. Soundbar mounted at the top of the wall close to ceiling, and tablet mounted on the wall at arms reach running Tunein radio.

  • It looks like it had several incarnations :-)
I'm pretty sure it's the same tablet.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/86282

    • The model numbers for these DGTEC tablet have usually been the same as the Bauhn ones from Aldi

  • +2

Bought 3. Form the kids to play with. Its too scary when the drop my proper tablet, its only a matter of time.

  • Has the price gone up? its showing as 39

    • +3

Did you forget the coupon code?

  • +1

Doh! Couldn't resist the price .. Hope I can still return it if it's really bad! Cheers

  • Got one as a SMART digital photo frame.

  • +2

If these are similar to the single core kmart tabs, be prepared for lag…

  • +1

This is how it runs. Looks ok for a $31 tablet.

wait so it doesn't even charge on micro USB?

      • Looks like there are two options - USB or the DC jack.

And here's a photo of the charger:
        https://webshop.cashconverters.com.au/thumbnail/850x520/1671…

BTW the screen res is 800x480.

        • +2

ah whatever, pulled the trigger. im sure i'll find some use for it… maybe

          cheers for the info!

      • I have one from a previous deal, the USB connection is only for data transfer. Separate DC jack is used for charging.

        • Ah fair enough, how long would you say the battery life is for you?

        • +1

          @Astro551:
Managed to watch a few movies on it for the 5 hr plane to Bali, with a bit leftover so it seems alright.

        • +1

@BTRaynes: ah ok, sounds good enough. thanks :)

  • Sweet, that's Father's Day for the father-in-law sorted…thanks squiddy! :)

    • +12

      Don't you like him?

    • +1

      -

      • +2

Not enough to get him a better tab…

  • Anyone know if I would be able to play music on this from a NAS on a wifi network? And would there be any quality loss if I plugged into some speakers? Thanks

    • +1

Anyone know if I would be able to play music on this from a NAS on a wifi network?

Of course. You will need a suitable app that can access teh network share, but apart from that it'll work perfect.

And would there be any quality loss if I plugged into some speakers?

Quality loss compared to what? The quality will be heaps better that from the inbuilt speaker(s).

  • +1

cheers of - got a couple for the brats (aka kids)

  • cna this play 720p (downscaled) /music from a plex server?

  • does it have GPS?? planning to use this in the car…

    • No GPS, No Bluetooth

  • Thanks op. Bought one for dad who is semi new to technology..this will be a stepping stone for him haha

    • fixed

      • uh same… did this happen last time as well?

        • +1

i just check again $35 comes from your nominated account and $8 from the voucher..bit confusing but yeah haha

        • +1

@annon: oh man just noticed as you commented that nice, got me worried there :P

  • If you're bound to this price range I reckon go for the $19 ereader from Kmart. The OS on that actually pairs nicely with the CPU and is responsive. I've had a horrible Android tablet from BigW before - so much lag it was unusable!

  • $43.95 (inc. p&h)… voucher takes away the 20% on cost + 4.5 in shipping ~$35

  • +1

Good price for a cheap tablet headrest in car

    • Thx asa. Thats exactly what i've been looking for… just have to sort out the 12dc wiring & i'm done. i dunno why but bought 3 of em! damn you ozbargain for these ridiculous good (looking) bargains we just can't resist

  • Just bought it, but quick question…

Does this by any chance have an HDMI port? or something that get connected to the Smart Tv?

  • bought one, too cheap can't resist

  • Just bought it, not that I need it, but too hard to resist.. Using it as my alarm clock :-)

  • Pulled the Trigger! :)

  • Might get one for my ip camera monitor

  • I bought one in a previous sale for $37, and this is even cheapers. I thought it worked good enough for web browsing etc. Only thing is that the last one got screen cracked :( Might buy more than one this time…

    • Was too indecisive, too late, price went up :(

  • Grabbed one to get wall mounted as internet radio (soundbar) and calendar display.

    Good find OP

  • Thanks OP, bought 2. Now to see if DS actually delivers…
This is even cheaper than buying from HK or China.

  • +1
