Can someone elaborate as to how this is better than built-in Podcasts in ios 7.1.1? I can't see a feature that will make me change.

Ive downloaded it but it doesn't pick up the podcasts i currently have on my iPhone, do you need to sync them with iTunes or download them within the app in order to play them?

I gave it a chance, it's much better than the stock app but not a patch on downcast IMO.
