Shipping (I checked destination Perth) is a fairly steep US$69.99, but when I got mine earlier this year they used DHL, it took only about 3 days.

If you are new to the topic: be aware that a brand new (Kickstarter funded) model is due in November, the Anova Precision Cooker. That new model will have in-built bluetooth connectivity.

The Anova one does not have bluetooth. But: the Anova one has a stronger heating element and a stronger pump, making it suitable for larger containers. It weighs a lot more, suggesting better build quality. It also is tried and tested, as opposed to a new product that might still have issues in need of ironing out. At this discounted price level the Anova One would be my preferred purchase by a wide margin.

One more caveat: the Anova One needs farily deep pots, 20cm or more.

    I would imagine these would drop more once the new kickstarter version gets released…

    Despite the 'stronger heating element' and 'stronger pump' claim, from what I read it was just a more efficient implementation in the new version so the end result should be similar

    • I don't think so. Of course prices are likely to drop across the range as more and more competition enters the market. But the Anova One is different enough to command a premium.

      An 800W heating element takes 25% longer to heat up the same amount of water than a 1000W element. And while they officially specify 1000W for the Anova One, I measured over 1500W when running it at 250V (a voltage WA power grids frequently deliver).

  • I saw the intro video for the Bluetooth one. It has built in setting for the meats. Is the anova one easy to use? and pre determined settings built in

    • It's easy enough to use, but nothing is pre-set. So much depends on personal preference that I can't see much use in pre-programmed settings.

      I usually just set a temperature and press 'start'. It also has a timer, but I rarely feel the need to use it.

  • I'd be grabbing the Aldi one for $99…let's face it, once the current sous-vide resurgence fad is over, it'll be gathering dust at the back of the kitchen cupboards like everything else! ;)

    • The Aldi one is very small. the Breville is the duck's guts, and is regularly available for $200.

    • This one is an immersion circulator. You provide your own pot.

      Advantages of an immersion circulator (assuming you already own a large pot):
      * less storage space required
      * you can use it on various containers, i.e. a large Esky if needed
      * more even water temperature throughout the container and much higher precision

      Precision matters for example for eggs where a 62 degree egg is very different to a 64 degree one, see here:
