Free Voice Calls (Standard Calls in Oz) for Virgin Mobile Customers on RUOK Day (11th September)

630

About R U OK?:
R U OK? is a not-for-profit organisation founded by Gavin Larkin in 2009, whose vision is a world where we’re all connected and are protected from suicide. Accordingly, our mission is to encourage and equip everyone to regularly and meaningfully ask “are you ok?”

We know that suicide prevention is an enormously complex and sensitive challenge the world over. But we also know that some of the world’s smartest people have been working tirelessly and developed credible theories that suggest there’s power in that simplest of questions - “Are you ok?”

I think this is a great thing that Virgin is doing and I hope everyone with Virgin will take advantage and call the people you care about. Just one conversation can save a life. :)

    Lets all ring Broden

Last Thursday, someone in my partner's family took their life. He was young and vibrant and you'd of never guessed anything was wrong. He was smart, funny, doing well in his career and well liked.

The hardest part is wondering if you could have done something to prevent it. Just said something, just spent more time.

Don't wait for a free call day. Ring someone who you haven't spoken to for a while. Your Mum or Dad, brother, sister, friend from school, a former job - just one person.

Yeah - I do hope this does spread the message of reaching out to people.

I agree, you shouldn't have to wait for a day of free calls to contact someone but at least it will give people more reason to do it when the day comes.

      Sorry for your family's loss

Where possible, these conversations are probably better had in person.

Great deal for a worthy cause, if the free voice calls are not useful at least by doing a promo they are raising awareness - can't be a bad thing.

Shameless self promotion by Virgin/Floptus aside, Telstra prepaid has free calls to any Australian (yes any network) landlines & mobiles 6p-6a each & every day.

You shouldn't need some stupid one day only promo as a guilt trip (come on, if you really care, the cost of a call is not even considered), for those in need there are low cost services available, don't hesitate, if you need help, reach out:

    BeyondBlue 1300 224636

    Lifeline 13 11 14

    Salvos Care Line 1300 363 622

Tel$tra free calls are only for certain plans (encore comes to mind). Well definitely not on my simplicity.

    • Not sure I'd want my Charity OR my Mobile Phone company to be tied to the words "September 11" and "Suicide" for any campaign promoted on that day.

Like, do people look at a calender when they organise days like this?

      • In America that would resonate further so I guess not.

  • great initiative
