Quad Core 7" Pendopad, 1GB RAM, 8GB, Android 4.4 Kitkat, $59 LIMITED STOCKS Selected Stores @Coles

520

Yet another Coles tablet clearing. Half price at least, worth noting is the 1gb of RAM and quad core processor, the box tells me it's 1ghz but it's reading as a 1.2.

Details at Pendopads a website.

Phones specs gives this,
Just downloaded the "Phone Specs" app to poll the hardware. No idea how accurate this all is. Points of interest it comes back with are:

Manufacturer:INet
Board: exdroid
Hardware: Sun6i
Android Version: 4.4.2
Kernel Version: 3.3.0
Screen Resolution: 1024x552
Screen Density: 160 dpi

Clock Speed: 1.2 GHz
Cores: Quad Core (4)
Architecture: N/A
Revision: N/A

RAM: 1GB
Internal Storage: 4.38GB
Internal Free: 4.11GB

Back Camera: 1.88 Mega Pixels (1200x1600)
Front Camera: 0.3 Mega Pixels (480x640)

BatteryTechnology: LiFe

The above looks fine, screen size is a little less than the touted 1024x600 and is probably it's biggest drawback. No GPS or Bluetooth. You can use 3G via a dongle.

The speaker volume on maximum is inadequate. Might be possible to boost volume using apps but wasn't successful doing that. Might need root to boost volume.

    • Really!? I found it too much especially for the typing. Had to turn off entirely.

      • Just watching a YouTube video, and it's barely audible. Maybe I got a detective unit?

Detective? Does it wonder around at night itself with a magnifying glass like a robot vacuum cleaner or a spy?

        • @wtfnodeal: it's just trying to creep

  • Developer options by tapping about phone in settings, then tap build number ~7 times. Maybe this is standard for kitkat but I hadn't seen this was of enabling them.

A couple of root options that may or may not work..

Can anyone else confirm this? I have a weird thing about not liking Wi-Fi. :S

I have the 10.1 Google play version that I purchased last week price matched from OW and can confirm 3G works via usb dongle.

There is a section in the network settings that gives 3G support info. Lists a stack of modems and tells you to just plug in

    • Thank you muchly, adr8 and mackaxx!

  • Can't go wrong for $59 !

Just bought one from Corinda Coles. Bought the last one. However they have the lower spec one for $59, only dual core though. So far the build quality is quite good. it's heavier, but that was expected.

I have had a couple A31s based tablets (quad core cpu, power vr graphics, 1gb ram, etc..) below are my thoughts on this tablet:

Pros: Small size, decent button layout, thin and light and (mine came with) a screen protector on the lcd.
Screen resolution is fairly basic but I felt like the viewing angles are OK in both portrait and landscape modes.

Cons: Wierd OS mods - right hand side launcher, antutu benchmark wouldn't work, battery won't charge higher than 94%. GPS omission is a little dissapointing, this is a great size for 4wd charting/car navigation.

Unsure: Reboots when updating apps, doesn't seem as snappy as my cheapy chinese 10" A31s despite almost the same specs. Examples of this is XBMC and using google music while surfing the net on chrome.

For $59 you can't really go wrong, this is essentially the same tablet HP sells (HP 7 Plus) for $99.

  • Anyone found a cheap cover or case that suits this?
I have a couple of old 7" ebook ones that wouldn't fit and looking on ebay there look to be a heaps different 7" models and styles

Got one from Miami Coles on the Gold Coast Sat and was pretty impressed and decided to try for another one on the way home at Palm Beach Coles today @ 2:30.
Service girl happily obliged and said she had a cupboard full of them. A mixture of the 2 & 4 cores though so grab the right one (purple box)

    • How much were they?

got the last quad from langwarrin,
    only duals left

  • +1

none at Castle Hill, North Rock, Carlingford & Epping.

dual core compare to quad, lower res, extra $15 delivery, most products you get from SS are shipped from oversea and only 90 days warranty.

I've had mine now for 3 months, haven't overly used it much. Just noticed the battery does not fully charge anymore. Plugging into the A/C charger it charges to about 20-25% then STOPS. I guess you get what you pay for.

I have had this 7" Pendo Pad PNDPP44Q7GPBLK for just over two months as well and the battery only lasted 20mins.
I took the back cover off and measured up the space for a new battery. Ordered and fitted a 5000mAh 367596 LG Li-ion from DHgate.com This took about 30 days for delivery.Cost $16 usa delivered. That was 4 days ago.
Now I`m getting close to 4 hours of video streaming and 4.5 hours of general usage.Standby is good too.
The original battery was only 2500mAh. Really pleased with this Tablet now and time will tell for the strength of this new battery.
      I hope this helps some.

I'll be doing that too I'd say, thanks for the tip. The plugs are fairly standard on these batteries or do you need to do some wiring?

        • +2

Yes you do have to unsolder and solder two small wires and are very easy to access.
A couple of tips - Use a blunt table knife to take the back off the tablet starting at opposite ends to the power/volume buttons. Remove SD card first.
Be careful that you dont break or loose the plastic power/volume button assembly. When you want to take out the old battery lift it gently and use that knife going back and forth along the tape holding it down. You have to cut or lift a piece of tape holding a cable ribbon,so the cable/ribbon sits on top of the new battery and the new battery sits hard up against the speaker. Dont hold me responsible for any breakages etc. Aprox time 20mins max.

        • @Mickalot: I finally did this. great advice, great instructions. Thanks

      • My issue now is with the speaker and its rather poor sound. i'm think of getting a laptop speaker and fitting it. Cost about $2 and only has two wires to solder, or I could buy for a bit more a bottom speaker replacement part HTC one M7 and solder than on. Will report back once the laptop speaker arrives

I read these postings just minutes ago. Pinewood in Melbourne has stock but the price shown on scanning is the original $149, not $59. Store manager doesn't know about the sale. So my question is whether this sale is store wide or or is it up to the individual store whether they mark it down or not?

7" Pendo Pad PNDPP44Q7GPBLK is THE right model. The Glen Shopping Centre only has the other lower spec (e.g. only 4G internal instead of 8GB internal) one which is ells for $59 and also comes in a purple (or dark blue) packaging box. The store has a different light blue model with 4GB internal as well.

Has anyone else had the problem of the tablet doing a factory reset every time the battery runs flat? My son has used it twice until the battery was flat and both times when I plugged the charger in it started up with the Android welcome/setup screen.

    • No, that shouldn't happen. My kid has run it flat many times.
