Free Roald Dahl Books on iBooks

2670

First time posting. I was hoping to find some free ebooks for my kids and stumbled across this when typing free children's books in the iBooks store search. Not all titles are free.
I managed to download for free the following today from the Australian iBooks store
The BFG
Fantastic Mr Fox
Esio Trot
Danny the Champion of the World
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar
Dirty Beasts
Matilda

Not sure how long this has been free or when it will expire.

I feel sorry for ALDI because there's just no winning with something like this. People will be outraged whether they pull the books or not, and it's a case of a very vocal minority both ways.

  • Some goodies there and not sure why some have free and non free versions eg BFG. Pity my favourite (the twits) isn't free :(

BFG and Danny Champion of the World bring back very fond memories of the library staff reading this to the class in early primary school.

This was in the early/mid eighties. Do they still read to children like that in school, or is it all computers and cartoons. I'm talking about, in a quiet dark section of the school library, where the kids could just lay down on bean bags and listen to the story being told to them.

No computers, no animation… just text from a book being brought to life.

Because the teacher told these stories with such vigor and feeling (and of course Dahl's writing!), my imagination ran wild… I LOVED these stories!! I really hope they still do this… such good times.

    • Both my children have had Roald Dahl books read to them by their classroom teachers in lower & upper primary this year, The Witches & Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.

I have lost my voice twice whilst teaching in the last few years - the first time was because I was being the gruff Mr Twit, and the second time was being the Fleshlump Eater and various other giants from the BFG.

Would do it again in a heartbeat even knowing the consequences because the children's reactions are just priceless!

We also did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a big production (k-year 12) last year…. GOLD!

  • Great first post! Thanks.

New chapter of Charlie and the Chocolate a Factory.

  • Just a note that they still haven't corrected this in fact they have added some titles and removed others there are some Robert B Parkers and a Robert Crais that weren't free yesterday but are today. @juicedpixels You may want to check Dean Koontz I think he's also had some additions either that or I just missed it yesterday.
