  • For the DGTEC tablet:

If it's single-core and anything like the 7", it's not worth the price. Double the RAM, though, so maybe the CPU will be better. I can't seem to find anything on the SoC they use, and the manual link on DGTEC's website is broken.

Also, the DGTEC 7"'s standby battery life is considerably worse than the more-powerful PendoPad 7" dual-core (I have both sitting next to me…). I would assume that this one has similarly crap battery.

About the only good thing is the physical screen size.

I'd find it hard to justify spending even $80 on this. Especially without more detailed specs - single-core is a definite deal-breaker, judging by the performance of its 7" cousin.

Edit: Someone on whirlpool apparently likes it. He says it's a RK2928, which is the same as the TB07. My opinion is that it's quite laggy, but apparently that guy hasn't had any issues. I'll just say good luck to anyone who buys it; maybe I'm just too demanding.

    • Got a PayPal refund for the 7" DGTech tablet, as DS had incorrectly described the tablet on their site. So be warned. Like in the description of this 10" unit, the OS described was android 4.1, but in the 7" the supplied tablet was the older 4.0.4.

Even if that tablet worked, it was slow, has a dark poor quality screen, a strange memory setup with little RAM, & short battery life. Some reported units would not even start up, with one person receiving 3 dead tablets & still trying to get a refund :-( Luckily / unluckily DS did not want my tablet back after the refund.

Trent86 may regret combining this dubious tablet with a good TV in this deal. As I posted that, the 10" tablet mysteriously disappeared from this deal's description ;-)

      • Yea, he added the TV about half an hour after my original comment. I had to edit the first line in.

The 7" one I got has 4.1.1 on it. There was a second 7" DGTEC tablet that I commented on here, with different specs - it might be the one you got.

        Both are pretty bad.

  • Wow, that seems cheap! Is it actually a good TV though? Always find myself checking in-store against others, and some of them are terrible!!

    • samsung make awesome tv's got 3in my house :)

      • +1

Yes I have two as well, they failed to switch on just out of warranty.

        • Mine had issues a few weeks back. Supposedly Samsung went through a period of using crap capacitors on the Power Board which had a high likelihood of failure. If its the same issue, identified by a clicking noise when you attempt to turn on the TV, then some people have had success replacing the capacitors themselves otherwise you should be able to get the TV repaired easily enough. I ended up paying a few hundred for a service which resulted in the TV getting a new power board, and it's as good as ever now. A major PITA, but it was cheaper than buying a new TV by a wide margin.

        • Contact Samsung anyway. They have to fix it. Under the the consumers' law, appliances such as TVs should last much longer than the manufacturers' standard warranty.

        • Yeah I did the job myself. Just search your model number on google and you'll find the caps you need. Your local Jaycar should have them and for less than $10 you can repair it yourself as long as you own a soldering iron, otherwise add another $10 to your hefty repair bill.

        • @lansalot: "Yeah I did the job myself. Just search your model number on google and you'll find the caps you need."

Just on that, it's probably worth getting comparable caps from a different manufacturer rather than getting an exact replacement. If you're going to be going to the effort to do the work, then you may as well replace them with ones that are more likely to last and avoid having to go through the process again a few years down the line because you replaced poor quality capacitors with the same type. It may also be worth replacing any that aren't damaged yet at the same time.

As noted, it should be quite easy to find recommendations for alternatives on Google given a good number of people have done the repair. If you aren't feeling so brave I believe some places have entire power boards available for sale too if people are more comfortable replacing that than soldering capacitors.

        • @Smigit: I also did mine and in the online guides it tells you where to use the upgraded capacitors. Easy to spot as they bulge at the top, also worth replacing the others that can cause problems while you're there. Be sure to catch it when it starts clicking and delay turning on as once the capacitor has had enough and blows it can damage your board then you are rooted.

I also have the 60" H6400 Samsung and it is nothing short of amazing, this is a great price!

        • I fixed my own too, I even found a youtube video with everything I needed listed and better still it was a woman doing the work :)

          Edit: mine was a ps51d550

  • im looking to get a new TV approx 50"+ (if budget permits) i just want what every jack smith wants, a decent television at a bargain price…

i would like to spend around 1300…
any recommendations or links to current deals running?

    • If you started looking a few days earlier this one would have fitted your budget perfectly https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/158701

i would think the UA55H6400 is slightly better than UA55H6300..

        • UA55H6300 has no 3D, no Bluetooth (and thus no Smart, motion controlled remote), and no Micro Dimming, as well as a Clear Motion Rate 200 (as opposed to CMR400 in the UA55H6400).

        • @AlexD: The 6300 is motion, face ready which means you can add it as a feature, the CMR FOR THE 6300 AND THE 6400 Are both CMR200 the 6400 is NOT CMR400

    • Try Graysonline too, they have some excellent reburbished units around 60" for that price or less. $1149 for the 60" R520 is pretty good if you don't want 3D.

3D Is pointless until they design TV's without having to use glasses and more content is available

        • How do you figure? Watched my first 3D bluray last night and am stoked with my pointless TV.

        • @itsdanthaman:
I said it's pointless until they bring out more content, like Blu-ray amount, when that happens it will be much more worth it. It is a cool technology but just hasn't taken off yet

        • @TRENT86: Not even just the released content, watching Sport on tv with the 2d to 3d conversion is amazing. If you can get past the glasses it definitely immerses you further. Cricket and Footy come up bloody good, going to try it with F1 this weekend, MotoGp on the weekend was great, quite accurate on the depth.

Also the first scene in Lion King on Blu Ray 3D, if that doesn't get you amped for 3D nothing will.. And Top Gun, Top Gun remastered is amazing..

        • @RickyBarbados: Yeah for me it's just the content and glasses when we should have that technology already, I mean it you buy a 3D tv now and say next year the new technology comes out where you don't need glasses I wonder if the old 3D'S Will be able to do the same thing

        • @RickyBarbados:

dunno about 2D => 3D conversion being amazing. Tried last night on a standard DVD and you could barely notice any difference

    • Hisense 55" 3D smart TV - $1196 …….. bargain less with cash

  • why do the first 2 posts talk about DGTECH tablets ?

Is this eligible for the cashback ?
https://www.samsung.com.au/promotions/tv-av/soundbar-cashbac… isn't clear on which retailers are included

    • Original version had the tablet as well, check revisions for further details.

    • I explained the reason in bold at the bottom of the second comment, because people would ask that question & incorrectly neg the comments. That's what happens when deals are changed. It's in the revisions.

      • Yeah it was removed because of reviews

Went to GG to see if they could beat the price. The guy said it was a discontinued model, but they have the 6400. After haggling a bit, got the 60" 6400, HW-H751 sound bar for $2400, then after $400 cash back from Samsung and $150 cash back from GG comes to a nice $1850 :)

    • What's the 150 cashback from good guys about? Can't see it on their website

        • ^^

Yup. Depending on what you get it can go as high as $300 cash back.

        • Thanks :) Do those terms that state strictly 1 card per customer mean that you can't get one for the TV and one for the soundbar?

        • +1

          @melmac77:

If it's in the same transaction/receipt it will go through for both. This is according to the manager at the store. T&C don't say only 1 item but say "model/s in one transaction"

    • Do you mind mentioning the price you paid for TV and the price for Sound bar please?

      • Sure!

TV was $1750 (it had a price of $1888 on it) and the sound bar he did for $630. Also a slow cooker for $20 which brought the total up to $2400.
