  • Supposedly good maps but Play Store reviews are scary. :|
I use my Garmin Zumo's topo maps for now.

  • And where exactly can we see the official info about the price and free in-app stuff?

Edit OK I found it by clicking on either iOS or android pictures. But I'm sure this app was $25 last time I decided not to bite. Those Google play store reviews are scathing.

    • Click on the Android or IOS big image link.

Edit: never mind you already found it :-)

      • It only seems to show up under the Android version.
IOS also has the discounted price, can anyone confirm the free maps as well?

        • When I load the app, the list of maps appears with an "Add" button next to each. After pressing said button, "Download" then replaces it. I guess if I had to still pay for each one, it would have something like "Buy"???

        • @jatcave: I'm not sure if you've already bought the add on maps in the past? They are coming as $14.99 etc for me… I just purchased the app…

        • @birdie: I only bought it about 10 minutes before posting here. Normally, four of those maps are that price and the desert one is $41.99 according the the Apple store. I downloaded all of them last night, no problem. Hope you get it sorted birdie.

        • @jatcave: Do you have the Android version or the iOS version? I'm thinking maybe its free for Android version but not for iOS?

        • @birdie: Android. Wouldn't imagine it would be different between the two though.

        • @birdie: I got confirmation last night that the iOS app does come with the extra maps.

        • @jatcave: I can get the extra maps, but I have to pay for them, I contacted Hema via FB and it is only Android that gets the free maps at this point :(

  • BIG thing with this app is the bad terminology of the word navigation. It is not used for navigation at all, well not the type you think - it will not tell you to turn left/right etc.

It is for planning of where you want to go, record the track you have been on (so make sure you have GPS - i.e. not an wi-fi only iPad), find POI's such as fuel, caravan/camping sites. Upload saved tracks to the Hema Cloud if you want to share (or keep private) the track and any photos taken.

I bought this for $49.95 before it was meant to go up in price. Don't think it ever did - sigh. For a 4WD/Camper/Caravan/Grey Nomad that get off the beaten track, go to places no Goolge car has been before - it's a decent app. If you drive in the city/suburb then this is NOT for you (wich is why people complain about it).

    • Can you compare it with Garmin Topo Maps?

      • No, only Memory Maps, Hema Maps (without the cloud, but with more maps), Mud Maps.

  • +1

I would suggest grabbing Androzic from play store and grabbing the 2008 25k topo maps from
    http://maps.festy.org/

A little dated but a free setup
