Green Gardener Garden Potting Mix 25l - certified black tick standard

Stumbled across this in Ww today and thought it might be useful for someone else. "Dirt cheap" for 25l of certified standard potting mix. Simply add your own wetting crystals and slow release fertiliser and you have close to a premium mix. Presumably a weekly special?

Related product on sale at Aldi Sat: Gardenline Seaweed Concentrate 2l $9.99 - is about $5 cheaper than Seasol at Bunnings (4l for $25) and makes marginally more diluted product.

You'll need to add more than water crystals and slow release fertiliser to THAT to make a premium mix, but it's a good cheap starter. A coir brick mixed in with 2 to 4 bags would probably actually make quite a diffeeence.

    • Agreed, that's what I use. I also combine premium and cheap-but-decent potting mixes in some cases. A wetting agent can also help. Avoid poor quality mixes no matter how cheap.

  • How can you know its poor quality to begin with is the question I suppose?

2 for $5 and being sold at WW might give that away

    • No Australian standard ticks on the pack is a good clue.

      • ?? Post states that it's black tick standard mix.

How can you know its poor quality to begin with is the question I suppose?

Probably not so much poor quality as not being adequate for plants to thrive in it. It's likely to be little more than crushed woodchip. A lot of people like to make their own mix, specific to the plants they're growing in it. For that purpose, with various additives it's fine, but expecting plants to do well planted in this alone would be a mistake.
