  • Wow such good prices!!
Any chances that the good guys or Harvey Norman will price beat the Panasonic TV price?

If so, does anyone know of a good shop in Melbourne to do so?
    Appreciated for the responses :)

    • You would be better off trying good guys if you want a Samsung tv as they are offering bonus visa cards on certain TV's but it's worth trying both to either price match or beat

    • Any chances that the good guys or Harvey Norman will price beat the Panasonic TV price?

Worth a go as the ticket price at jb is inflated compared to the current street price of around $1399

Harvey Norman are useless when it comes to price matching. A couple of weeks ago TGG had the 48" Samsung for $1180, I happened to be in HN and the lowest they would go to was $1250. Pointed out that TGG was $1180 and was told that $1250 was as low as they'd go as it was already cheaper than they normally sell it. Gave it a miss obviously.

      • +1

I second that mate. I was price matching a camera from digidirect. It was a few hundreds off so I doubt they'll ever match it. Digidirect has a store front in the city and they always stock Australian products. So they let me wait for an hour only to tell me they can't match it.

  • Wonder why they're not doing 15% off Canon cameras this time round? Can't recall the last time Canon was excluded from the camera sales… the good news is that my wallet will be safer for a while longer!

    • +1

Probably because Canon are having a cash back at the moment.

  • Have some jb vouchers and need a laptop for my kids. Anyone recommend anything please? I did some browsing last night but I'm so not upto speed on this anymore!$500 - $600 budget, Web browsing, some educational software, office installed (home), win 8.1 or upgradeable to 8.1, and touch screen. Is the T100 thing worth considering?

    • Avoid anything with a Intel Atom CPU ( Intel Celeron N2830, N2840, N2850, N2920, N2940, )
Anything that has an "N" or J at the start of the CPU code should be avoided. these are slow tablet based Bay Trail-M CPU's that are much SLOWER then standard desktop and laptop CPU's.

Everything else should be fine :)

      • +1

Also avoid the low end AMD's, just as bad, try and get at least an i3 CPU. Most laptops don't come with office, so you are up for $140ish on top of the prices on their web site, or look at getting your whole house onto Office 365 (5 licenses, but needs yearly renewal). Everything else, you pay for like touch screen, graphics card, bigger HDD, more RAM.

The T100 is a matter of personal preference. I would avoid one because I can't work on a 10" screen, and don't really need the tablet side of things, but I know people that use this as a main computer, and have no issues with it.

      • I will says its slow. I bought asus laptop with N2830 for my mother-in-law for 320$

as she just needs a basic one for browsing and emailing. But its a dog.
I cant believe how quickly it gets overwhelmed. I have a 1 year old core i3 desktop which runs rings around it. Just running a 720p you tube clip consumed 75% cpu usage. Gawd!!Tried to chromecast a browser tab and CPU usage went to 100% and on the TV the display was stuttering. The core i3 happily chromecasts a browser tab sitting at 30% cpu usage.
Steer far clear of the cheapo celerons if you want to do anything other than emailing and browsing.

    • Had a quick glance at the available JB models and there were none that exactly met your requirements, so I think you would need to compromise on one. Either:
      - Standard size 15.6" laptop with perfectly adequate processor but No Touch Screen for around $500 (the models closer to $600 didn't seem to offer any real additional benefit).
      - Much smaller 11" with touch screen for $400-$500 but with a slow processor as mentioned by vid_ghost and sb944, most likely a Celeron N2830.
      - Increase budget - I think the cheapest full size laptop with Touch Screen is the Acer E5-571PG-524H for $763.

Or another option is to buy from somewhere else.

Depends what you really want it for. When you say 'for my kids' it makes me think that Touch screen is more valuable and productivity/processor less important. Plus a smaller machine is more portable and they don't find the smaller keyboard etc uncomfortable either.

Can any owners of the Panasonic 55" comment on their experience? Need to purchase a TV for the outlaws tomorrow, and they have they're heart set on a Samsung 55" UA55H6400. Thanks guys.

    • Don't get a samsung. Build quality on ours is appalling. Buttons fall apart and all and customer service is terrible.

      • I have got 3 Samsung and all are the best TV's we have ever owned

        • Hit and miss for me. 3 Samsung TV's recently, all outstanding to watch, excellent smart TV features, decent remotes (though wife hates the newest one). However, one died about 3 months in and needed replacing, and one of the remotes was DOA. Service centre was OK, we got a brand new replacement for the dead TV, though it took a month or so.

        • @sb944: guessing you didnt go to the one in Vermont? haha

      • Agree. My parent's Samsung TV cost them $2000 and died within 5 years with a well-known Samsung issue (faulty capacitors). Samsung didn't want to know about no statutory warranty. And they gave them the runaround. Do me a favour and don't get Samsung.

        • Had a 32 inch series 4 for 7 years and no problems, also have a 40" in living room for 4.5 yrs and no problems, I think it's just unlucky sometimes with products.

    • I have the UA55H6400 for a few weeks now and so far it is brilliant.

      • I have this in a 50" past 8 months great tv.

        • I have the 48 inch and cant complain at all. It doesnt have any buttons on it, if buttons are the weak part of Samsung

    • Point to bear in mind is that the TH-55AS700A was one of the TV reported to have HbbTV 1.5, and thus potentially to be compatible with Freeview Plus. Not sure, given that's now launched, if the compatibility is proven.

This was thought to be a similar model to the 700A in the UK. In a word, meh on the contrast.

    • I've got this TV. Bought it two months ago for $1,699. It's a pretty good TV and the IPS panel is brilliant. The only issue I have is when gaming. I've noticed ~50-100ms input lag. But if you're not gaming on it more than 30% of the time I don't think that's something you will notice.

  • Looks like a good sale. Though I wonder, are lenses ever on sale from JB?

    • Rarely, but they did have 10% off Nikon lenses a few months back. Haven't seen them do Canon lenses though.

  • I feel some of the TV prices are still high… i think they have not properly done the 15% off… Samsung UA55H7000 is still higher (after discount) than most other places… Its around 1800 in Camberwell electronics store.

  • KUDOS to you good man - love the R U OK reference. Well done!

  • Nikon D610 $1549 after cashback. After TRS return, it's $1400.

    Thanks OP.

    • WOOT stand corrected they are holding the 20% of Blus this weekend Yay :)

  • probably needs an actual forum discussion, but who has the best smart option tv in the market … i.e easy to use, features etc.

    • Best Smart TV without doubt is with Samsung… Apps and feature wise.
I heard there is a new version of H6400 coming out with twin tuner called H6500

      • Should I be considering the H7000 over the 6400 my plan is to try and get Good Guys to price match they are currently offering Visa cashback of $200 on the H7000. But am I really going to tell the difference between a ultra HD and HD sounds like marketing baloney to me. Edit - Just noticed that the comparison states the the 6400 does not have an Ethernet port is that correct??

        • Ok done more googling Ultra HD is another name for 4K if the price difference isn't too much it may be worth it off to do some more reading :)

        • +1

Yes but you need to think whats actually available in Ultra hd to view

      • .
The Samsung UE40H6500 with the twin-tuner is already available in England

        http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/television…

maybe this is why the H6400 price is down

  • In store guys get another 5% off for instant deals members, look in your email for voucher or sign up. Ends Sun

  • Sweet! Been holding out on the Panasonic TH-55AS700A. Now seems to be the time to buy, cheers TRENT86 :)

  • At current pricing, this TV will be available on Sunday from the Dick Smith eBay store at approximately $1,169 - this assumes you get the 15% off and another 2% CashBack. Related eBay Deal Post

    Current pricing: $1,399 + $4.95 del.

    • +2

And that tv is now $1128 in store # jbhifi with extra 5% off

      • Yes I pointed out the 5% much earlier, before yourself even - not everyone has the 5% voucher.

If DS drops their price it will go less than here.

        Just giving people other options.

        • You just put up it will be $1169 after 15% off and 2% cashback which is more than the current deal I just mentioned $1128

        • +1

          @TRENT86:
And now that TV I linked to is around $1,088!

Since the listed price dropped from 1399 to 1188.

But nobody wants to hear about Dick Smith dropping prices for a sale do they? Instead they all speculate that DS will jack up the prices…

        • @nismo: That's because they do. PS4 Console went from $518 to $618 just before the sale started

        • -1

          @TRENT86:

It's very basic. Sales end and prices go up. Surely people understand this most basic logic?

  • I'm after a 65-80+ inch television to replace/supplement my 50 inch Panasonic plasma which is now 7 years old and works perfectly :-)

Thoughts on the Sony KDL70W850B 70 inch advertised and any other brand/model?
While a Smart version would be ok I don't really need it as I have a WDTV to access movies etc, a Chromecast and an Apple TV to access other online stuff.

    • +1

Yeah lol they undercut them by a couple of bucks with most of them, but I would rather give the money to the ones who started the sale- Jbhifi

  • Does anyone own the Senheiser HD 201? Are they good for its price? If not, what are some good alternatives that are close to the $50 range?

  • So went to JB tonight got the Samsung 55 H6400 and the soundbar HWH 751 for a total of $1873 $400 cashback from Samsung will bring it to $1473 pretty pleased with that :D

    • Good job :)

  • went to pick it up last night only to be told my car was too small to fit it, dagnammit! I wasnt gonna go back there again, so opted for delivery instead.

    Ended up paying $1,147.

    I don't know how they calculated it, but basically $1,188 + $29 delivery charge, with 5% discount doesn't equal $1,147 to me…

Anywho, got it for cheaper than I expected, so I'm happy. Cant wait to get home and turn it on tonight!

  • Sony STR-DN850 for ~$636 after 5% discount on top. Good buying? Not too many retailers stock this so hard to know if this is a good price or not.

    • Some good reviews on it, most places I see are $700+

  • opinions on Hisense K390PAD vision tv?

  • .
<Iforgot> think they undercharged you $10 on the discount !! the extra 5% off in store of $1188 is $59.40

    $1188 - $59.40 = $1128.60 plus (the delivery charge) $29 = $1157.60

    …..Oz-Bargain…. wins again :)

  • What's the best price anyone's got from JB for 60" H7000?
