Grabbed one of these tabs last time it was in the $30 mark.

It is awful (expected) , unresponsive screen. Runs out of puff quick and locks up running just one app.
As a play thing for a child it will be ok , for anything remotely serious eg. internet radio player or smart tv remote etc it will just frustrate you.

    • Have to agree. Tablet is awful. Picked one up over Fathers Day weekend when they were $30 again. Save your money…

No mention of the other colours you might get (last time I got pink), that it's actually Android 4.0, not 4.1, that battery life is terrible, the UI is slow, that only 500MB of the supposed 16GB is available for updating system apps… lucky I got a refund last time; my advice, don't buy.

I bought one of the dgtec tabs recently. Mostly to use as a remote control for plex / chromecast. They're pretty poor tablets but for $29 would make a good digital photo frame. Not much more use than that IMHO.

    • Poor quality & dark screen (almost black if not viewed straight on) don't make a reasonable photo frame.
      Reason for neg given below.

    • That's why I bought one initially; the battery lasts less than 2 hours as a photo frame, necessitating being plugged in all the time (I had it mounted to a wall and was hoping to not have it plugged in all the time).

  • i'm probably wrong but it says $39 now

  • Does the price change on the website to $29 at 12pm?

    • bingo

      • Face/palm

    Don't spoil your lunch!
Read the problems with this crap tablet - at end of deal from 4 weeks ago, after the excitement of then $31.20 price wore off.

Can't believe someone thinks this is a bargain. But DS is still shovelling them out.

Reason for neg: Still deceptively advertised by DS as Android 4.1 Operating System when it is older 4.0.4. DS was advised of this deception weeks ago & I have raised complaint with authorities.

Not of merchandisable quality - should not be being sold. Many delivered DOA.

Only good thing is DS gave very quick PayPal refund & didn't want the tablet back. But I don't want this crap device, even for free, but legally I can't even give it away until 30 days after dispute was settled.

I'd say that I'll take it off your hands for my 2yo after the 30 days expires, but he's 2 years old and frustrates easily, so I think I'll pass and keep the house a little more… tranquil! ;)

Yes you will have to wait till 12 o'clock until the price changes

  • There won't be any stock in store as they will all be gone. Like every other time we get a deal from Dick Smith at ridiculous prices.

They haven't run out after 4 weeks selling around this price.

Almost 1000 were sold on DS eBay when this tablet was first posted at a $31.20. They have been selling for a while. Its a crap tablet.

Coles were selling better tablets for $29, & currently sell a $49 dual core Android 4.4 with many more (basic) features like Bluetooth. Put this tablet beside one of those cheapies & judge how bad this deal is! Single core old tablets are only great for masochists.

This is Babbage, do not buy it.

    • +2

      Don't rubbish Babbage ;-)

      • +2

        Ok, this is Rabbage.

  • I won't pay $10 for the tablet, i grabbed this last time it was on sale and regrated buying it. AVOID

  • how about using solely as a kids-in-car movie viewer. with headphones and fixed power (from cigarette lighter)?

    • this is simply slow and lagging…as hell…

    • Poor viewing angles & dark screen, low volume, laggie,… Just don't do it!

  • Yeah I have to ask as well. I have 2 very young toddlers. Is this going to be good enough? I can't seem to find the coles one. Can anyone reply please?

      • +1

for the price you can get a quad core from a china shop.

If they're anything like mine, a slow unresponsive tablet will just frustrate them!

    • +2

That might just count as child abuse ;-)

Better, faster, more basic features $49 dual core at Coles - still stock at my Coles.

I upgraded from this tablet to a Coles $29 Huawei 7". Still slow single core, but great build, excellent ips screen, and it works. It certainly is not much use for internet, but good for movies at reasonable volume (plus Bluetooth that this lacks) & basic games.

  • Be warned. I got mine during the Aug 20 promotion. When it was turned on the second time, I got an android with an opened tummy cover lying there on my screen with a big exclamation mark! It's dead. Will return the tablet.

    • Sounds like it's in recovery mode. Did a volume button get stuck?
