I got the iPhone 6 64gb Space Grey at Virgin Mobile (Knox, VIC) this morning at around 10:00am'ish. They had 4x 6 Plus' but they got snatched up as soon as they opened the store.

Called them around 9:30am and they had 6 of the 6 64gb Space Grey left and I quickly ducked down. Wait time was around 15 minutes (waiting for 2 people to sign up). Surprisely, it wasn't crazy waiting time/queues like the Apple stores.

No way was I going to wait in a queue like Chadstone's Apple store I saw on the news last night!

Edit: I was a current Virgin customer and upgraded ($30 plan + $30 phone).

    • Yeah that was the model I was looking at getting too. $60 per month seems pretty reasonable and I think 64gb is the perfect amount of storage. The space grey looks the best this time around, the gold and silver models look a bit average.

Nah, I found a middle-of-the-range ASUS A500KL for Au$ 235 (incl shipping) at an Aussie-based importer's website, while looking for another item. 5" Gorilla Glass touch screen, deal incl'd 8 GB MicroSD card (but I can fit up to 64 GB into same slot), Qualcomm quad-core CPU, etc. etc.

For now, we're happy with our i7-based MacBook Pro & A7-based iPad Air… and Samsung Note 10.1 phone, etc.
(only the MacBook Pro cost more than $600, so we have been able to buy more devices, with same $ budget.

I don't miss Siri in a phone; in fact, we've disabled it/her in the new iPad Air.

Well-priced "Tools, not Toys" for us. YMMV. ;-)

PS Frankly, I'm surprised Apple's charm hasn't waned, ie, post Steve Jobs…

  • Oh and I put the 6 and 6 Plus side by side… If you like carrying a tablet in your pocket then go for the Plus, else the 6 is perfect. Coming from a 5, although the 6 is physically bigger, it isn't really that much different as it's thinner and lighter!

All this fuss over a phone, some people needs to get a grip.

    http://www.9news.com.au/technology/2014/09/19/10/37/first-ip…

    • Yep, people need to get a handle on it…

As if camp out for a phone. Fortunately for me, I scored one without all the wait and it's currently firmly in my hands =)

it's currently firmly in my hands =)

Uses it in washroom, drops in toilet

According to an Apple retail employee on Reddit, Apple engineered the box in a way that it would take a long time for the top half of the box to separate from the bottom half, as a way of building up excitement as you unbox the product. That's the sort of stuff you pay for when you buy an iPhone… fancy retail packaging.

        • +2

I call shenanigans on that one…
My nexus 4 and nexus 7 both came in boxes that took considerable force to pull apart.
My video card, and my keyboard both came in boxes like that as well.
It's not an apple marketing thing.

The "Apple Wave" was a far better troll ;D

    • I feel sorry for the guy who got moved to the back after complaining about queue jumpers; 2 years back queuing for the iphone 5, about 20 people in front of me grew to about 40 and security weren't in place till around 7am to regulate any of this.

Couldn't be stuffed dealing with all that this year so got my iPhone 6+ 128g gold on preorder this year and surprisingly it arrived today (window was 2 weeks). The thing is crazy big compared to an iPhone 5 and it looks and feels fantastic.

On a side note I read a related story in SMH http://m.smh.com.au/digital-life/mobiles/student-in-tears-af… . Between all the scummy profiteering queue jumpers and lack of management thereof, the crazies like this girl, the ridiculous lack of sleep and deliberate lack of supply I can't see myself ever going to a launch again. The iphone 4 midnight launch had a great vibe and entertainment and it's gone downhill ever since.

  • i got the 6 plus today around 11am, Awesome phone. Alot smaller then everybody was putting out to be, and the screen is stunning! All in all, good purchase

Alot smaller then everybody was putting out to be

      What? lol

It's dimensions were released last week. It's similar to a Note 3.

      http://www.phonearena.com/phones/size#/phones/size/Apple-iPh…

      • i knowww, but people were saying its so impractical. dosent fit in the hand. so on

      • It is taller than Note 3 and slightly narrower, if you wear jeans, it may be too tall. I remember when I have the Huawei Mate, it is really uncomfortable in jeans even if you can put it in. Note 3 is okay, you can feel that it is in there but if the jean have narrow pocket or skinny, it is also not comfortable.

    • Gee man, its only a 1080 screen…… Try the LG G3 for a truly stunning screen!!

  • I have a silver 64GB 6 in my hands, downloading all my previous iPhone applications. I got the luxury of getting it delivered by pre ordering it last Friday afternoon. It's the perfect size. Any bigger than this, I would have wasted over $1000, on what I feel like is not a 'practical' every day usable phone.

    • +4

They should have made the 6 as same specs with the 6 plus, i.e. FHD and with optical stabilisation of the camera.

      • Agreed. That was the most disappointing factor to me. FHD screen, battery life and camera difference between the two is upsetting.

      • +1

at 4.7inches full hd screen isnt worth it, you cant see the difference… 720p is better for the battery too considering how small the capacity is in the iPhone 6

  • The new paradigm for Apple related threads here at Ozbargain

Hate Apple!! - It's too big
Love Apple!! - It's the right size

I guess its a change from before

Hate Apple!! - It's too small
Love Apple!! - It's the right size

    So whats new… LOL

  • I woke up at 5:20am and figured I would go and line up (no alarm set and had decided that I wouldn't bother if I didn't wake early). Had breakfast and went down to the Telstra shop at North Sydney, arriving at 6am. I was 4th in line. Word was that the store had only 1 of each colour and capacity of iPhone 6+, but luckily 2 of the 3 in front of me went for the 6.

They didn't have the grey 128GB iPhone 6+ that I wanted so I settled for a silver. Kind of hate the white front, but I do like the phone. Very happy with the purchase. Normally I wouldn't queue for technology and especially an Apple product, but I was awake and it was only 2 hours…….

Took some amazing shots of my kid at little athletics this morning- these would have been impossible on my old 4S.

  • Preorder reservations went extremely smooth, with only one person in front of me when I got there. In and out within 5 minutes.

Gradually getting used to the 6+ size, but the screen sure is gorgeous.

What happened too all the Apple loyalists not long ago complaining that Android screen sizes were "too big"?

    • -2

all the sheep were told its not a problem any more and loyally followed what they are told to think

      • -5

Have you looked at one? or have you just thought what You've been told?

I doubt if you have been down to an Apple store, too many sheep in your way.

But while they maybe sheep, you maybe a goat

        You conveniently forget that

There are now 3 sizes of iPhone screens so "ALL" the "complainers" are probably still going for the same size screens they had before. Maybe its all those who went to other manufacturers with large screens, now coming back?

        But it's all maybe's

Run out of games on your phone have you :)

  • Once you go big, you never go back ;)

    • +3

      That's. What. She. Said.

    • Mobile Phones of the 90's?

  • How is everyone finding the 6+ size? Planning on getting one - a bit concerned about practicality.

    • +2

I think everyone is finding it great. There has been phones of similar size out for years. I am curious to see the sales of the iphone 6 compared to 6+.

    • A bit too big for my liking.. I'd go with the 6 instead.

    • It actually fits in my front jeans / pants pocket without sticking out (I'm a guy who wears 32 length which is a pretty common size).

One handed use feels awkward especially compared to the iPhone 5 it replaced. Pretty much use two hands all the time for this one.

Biggest issue I have is the weight increase from 112 to 172 grams. My left forearm starts to feel strained if I'm lying down in bed holding this up for a while.

Above said I'd still get this over the plus for the extra screen real estate and the optical image stabilisation.

the reason you have 2 is so you can switch hands 1/2 way through….

        • D'oh!

      Useless reply

  • Uce brother,

Bought the iPhone 6 plus with 128gb in silver.

Flew from Tonga to sydney before the apple store started to release this beautiful product of a coconut. I was 15th in line. Absolutely worth the time and money. After a day in sydney I flew back.

    UCE UCE SOLEH BROTHER.

  • I work at an Optus store and first of all my store had their stock misplaced when shipping which was horrible!

I ended up calling in a few favours on the afternoon of the launch and got myself a gold 6Plus 128gb for a few reasons,

    1. I liked the screen size and the colour, gold looks better in cases etc.
    2. The price difference on Optus on a $100 contract between 6 and 6Plus is $4 per month ($107 for the 6 and $111 for the 6Plus if the rep does the contract correctly). 4x24= 96 and in 24 months when I'm ready for another phone the resale value of the 6plus will be much higher than a $96 difference.
  • Saw them in store yesterday. Much slimmer and lighter than previous versions. A lot of the design borrowed from the likes of HTC One, which is still a much better looking and feeling phone.

The new iphones are light but also feel a bit plasticy and delicate in the hand. Given the price I did expect a more premium feel than that.

All in all you know what you are getting. Same operating system, improved performance, a lot of hype but nothing that remarkable. Even the media are not as interested as they used to be. If you notice, the coverage is all about the queues etc rather than anything particularly interesting about the phones themselves. Says a lot.

Apple fans as always will be pleased but there is no way on earth that iphones are worth their premium pricing when there are more attractive and better phones available for hundreds of dollars less. That wasn't the case 5 years ago but certainly is now.
