MSI AMD Radeon R9 290X Gaming 4GB Video Card, $545 + Shipping @ Mwave

30

Second cheapest price available is $579, that's a saving of $34.

Here's a review of the MSI Radeon R9 290x with benchmarks for different games and resolutions. The R9 290x is a pretty popular GPU when it comes to choosing one in the higher end range. Good value for money if you're looking to build a high end gaming pc.

Edit: Here's another review of the GPU with multiple games running at different resolutions and how the card stacks up against other high end cards.

Get a GTX980 from the US for a bit more… Or play the $799 here.

Was there an issue of bitcoin farming on the R9 290X models? I just got my Gigabyte Radeon R9 290 from eBay and the CPL guy I spoke to today (Jeff) was telling me about it and checked my new card to see if was really new. Luckily mine was a 290 and not 290X which is what they used.

I have not done any more research on this 'issue' but apparently the 290X cards were used for Bitcoin farming due to their processing power and value for money and are now being sold off online at cheaper prices. The CPL guy thinks that at least a year (out of five) of life is gone by then.

Anyone else more knowlegable care to share more info?

Thats got nothing to do with this though…

    • Isn't that possibly a concern only for refurbished/used cards? This one appears to be new. Or are you suggesting some new cards may somehow not be unused?

      • when I told the CPL guy I bought it my 290 on eBay (I actually said 290x as that is what I mistakenly thought they were called) he said "oh noooooo" and apparently non-reputable sellers are repackaging old as new. This is why he asked to see my card to see if was used (which is when I discovered that it was a 290 model as opposed to 290X). I'm sure that the major online stores are fine, just the odd bad seller out there.

This deal is for mwave though, not through some shady dealer through eBay. Don't confuse the issue.

Start your own forum thread dude.

      There's nothing wrong with these R9 290Xs as they're brand-new.

  • I think this would be a better deal, even if it is overpriced compared to the US

  • 290X is a good card no doubt, but how does the MSI stack up against Sapphire Tri-X.
AMD cards are known for sound and heat. You don't want a jet engine running beside you while your card gets to 90C while gaming..trust me…I own 6990… :(

  • Would like to know how this stacks up against the Gigabyte 290x I purchased on eBay a few days ago? I really dis-like the look of it and 3 smaller fan design (I can picture it being loud)
