Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC $155 (Was $225) + Delivery @ MSY

300

Scouting through some stores for a GTX 660 thought this was a great price. Not sure how long this price will stay for but I guess until sold out.

Shipping to VIC Metro ~$10.79

Here is a review: http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-66…

It is a decent card, almost comparable to the 660 ti reference model.

  • nice price

  • Only a tiny bit of stock at VIC Online.

  • Good card for the price. Looking forward to some good specials on new 9-series cards. Amazon is currently at least $200 cheaper than local stock :(

    • on the 980 or the 970?

      • Probably the 970 but if it was a good deal on the 980 I'd consider getting one. I'm only on 1080p atm so I don't know if it's necessary?

        • Depends on what card you have at the moment. I have a 1200p monitor and a GTX 760. Kind of regret not getting the 770 or 780 but would love a GTX 980 if the non-reference coolers come at decent price on Amazon. Having the ability to run every game (until Witcher 3 is out) in ultra-high settings with the power consumption ratings that nVidia are showing would be awesome. Even with my 760 I'm not able to run every game on ultra-high smoothly so I wouldn't mind upgrading.

    • got 2 GTX 970s non reference from new egg and even with $100 shipping saved 80 bucks compared to local stock. You would save even more if you go GTX980. The 970 are amazing bang for buck considering you can overclock them to close to the GTX 980 which is quicker than a 780ti.

    And it's gone………

    • MSY has the same (Gainward) for $128. GTX 660 is much stronger than GTX 750, and also GTX 750 Ti.

  • +1

GTX660 is twice as good as GTX750

  • This card is O-L-D. Very soon it will be 3 generations old.

Would people get into a lather about a deal on an EVEN OLDER GTX570 which is faster than this?

Would people be creaming themselves over a deal on an EVEN OLDER STILL GTX480, which is also faster than this??

The reason that this card is cheap is because it the Video Card equivalent of an iPhone 4S.

Furthermore it was only a midrange card back in 2012 when it was released.

Couldn't agree more with this comment. +1. I even own a GTX 660, which I bought 2 years ago for $220. So this price is only 30% less, after 2 years?! Who wants a 6-series Geforce now when the 9-series is just around the corner.

Because contrary to popular belief not everyone needs or desires the latest tech. In this price range what are better alternatives?

    • +1

GTX660 is a 28nm Keplar card, one generation ('tick') down from last week's Maxwell 28nm GTX970/980. NVidia follows the tick-tock model for their updates with the GTX7xx tock only bringing higher clockspeeds, and a new turbo boost mechanism (GPU Boost 2.0). GTX480/570 are one tick generation back further still and built on far less power efficient 40nm technology.

  • This or 750ti oc? Similar price range

    • +3

750ti: less power consumption, draws power straight from mobo

  • GTX 980/970 released this week

    • Under $200?

  • Dammit, missed this, would have been a killer buy.

Saw this post before it hit the OzB headlines, most places were out of stock so you didn't really miss out. If only I knew about it a couple of days before hand :P

      • Ahhh that eases the pain a little thanks LOL, when you miss out, low stock from the start is some salvation LOL, but yea if it was known when there was a fresh bit of stock, would've been one of the best bargains ever!

  • I managed to buy one on VIC Online last night..I think it might have been the last one because it said out of stock after. I chose to pay via bank deposit, but I didn't know that my order would not be guaranteed until they receive my deposit. I was scared I wouldn't get the order since I was transferring from my CBA account to their NAB account. Checked the listing just then and there was Low Stock at Vic Online again, so I purchased it again and paid via credit card this time.

In the past when I ordered multiple items of the same product (but in separate transactions), they only honoured one of them. So I'm not sure what will happen here.. since I already paid them twice. Hoping I will end up with at least 1, if I get 2 I'll just sell it

People are hating on it because its a few gens old but if you just want a cheap video card that plays games its excellent. I have one that I got 6 months ago for a similar price and it can run Skyrim comfortably on high. I have no doubt it is no were near as fast as any current cards or even a 760 but that was nearly twice the cash.

    • Yeah I'm still waiting for someone to suggest a better card at similar price?.. Its easy to say pay 2-3 times the price and get something newer, but it doesn't help those that are looking for a card in this price range.

      • Just because you can't get something better for the same price doesn't make it a good buy. Example: if there's one house in Melbourne for 100 grand (yeah, right) and nothing else that's better for that price, does that make that house a steal? Even if it's a one room wooden shack? Option 1: Pay more money for a good card now, or option 2: wait for entry level or mid-range Geforce 9-series cards.

        • Well yes, it does, if your only other options are cardboard boxes which were also priced at 100k.

        • @Dan_:

Er, no, because unlike a house which is essential to human life, a video card is a luxury.

        • +1

@MrZ: The GTX 660 beats all the current gen entry level and lower midrange cards at this price range. So if someone was in the market for a entry level/lower midrange card, this would be a steal. It's as simple as that really.

Just as, if someone was looking for an entry level house, which at the time happens to be cardboard boxes at $100k. Getting a wooden shack at the same price is a relatively good deal.

Furthermore, it's not a very good analogy. Lower range cards have their purpose. Just because you're after a card for high performance gaming doesn't mean everyone else is. If you're after a low end card (because that is sufficient to play your games comfortably) and you can get more performance for the same price, then its a good deal.

        • +1

Also people have to be realistic, this generation of card still play a lot of games at high detail. Plenty of current games it will run at 1080 mid/high settings.

The way people are talking its like a poverty card. I had a look and a 760 GTX is still over $280, most over $300, so you're talking double the price.

Plenty of casual games don't want to spend 2x the money.

  • Does anyone know if this is compatible with windows 8?
