  • So will it automatically allow me multiplayer online or do I have to do something in advance. Link doesn't say either way. Also I wonder if this effects future free trials of PS+

"We're opening the doors to PlayStation Plus online multiplayer for a whole weekend, so PlayStation 4 owners can jump into their favourite games' online modes for no extra cost.

From 26-28 September 2014, you won't need to be a PlayStation Plus member to play online - just load up your favourite PS4 games and join in the action."

When they make multiplayer permanently free like with PS3, I'll consider buying one!

    • If you own a PS3 and PS4 then the Ozbargain way would be to actually pay for PS+ (probably US, during black Firday sales) because it is such good value.

      • +1

Can't get much better value than free.

        • You also don't get much more than nothing.

        • +1

Seriously, PS+ is an amazing value. I have PS3, PS Vita and PS4, yet to purchase any games for my Vita. Tons of games in PS3 am yet to play which I got for free from PS+. The auto-update and back-up feature alone is worth every cent spent on it.

        • All I want is multiplayer. I don't want to buy anything, I don't want games for a PSP/Vita, I don't want stuff that other people decide to push on me. I'll go to a store and buy a disk if I want a game. I don't want to spend money to back up anything. You might think it is good value, I don't. You can justify your decision to yourself all you like, but others think being forced into buying something they don't want sucks. The killer for me is I now have to pay to do something I didn't have to pay for in the previous console. They have shot themselves in the foot with that decision as I won't buy the new gen and they lose a potential income source. I'm not alone feeling this way.

if the console was $100 more and included online, would you buy it?
the console sells for $399 every so oftern, that's alot cheaper than the PS3 was.
Just consider the cost of online a part of the cost of the console. (and for what it's worth, Sony are spending more on their service so it's not a case of paying for the same thing that used to be free)

          @endotherm:

If all you want is free online MP, then stick with PS3 or get a PC.

Being that a few million have purchased PS+ since the PS4 release and funded Sony to allow them to improve their online experience, I would say that their foot is looking pretty good at the moment and the bullet missed.

I guess the crucible awaits on Saturday.

    • Leveling up crucible rank is a bitch. Just playing crucible takes forever at 25 rep per match and some bounties are damn near impossible. Normally I wouldn't worry about it but they have the best auto rifle for sale.

Am fed up of Destiny. Seriously.

Edit: Thanks for the downvote, actually, for a random downvote because you don't have the skill to counter my claim. Anyways, check this video, and ask most of the Destiny gamers if they don't feel exactly like this:

      • Yup, very much a over hyped game. Fun to play, but very repetitive. Story is terrible/non existent and all the weapons look like they are from Halo. Game play; run in, press button, fight off hoards, repeat.

Was hoping for Borderlands with realistic graphics, got Warframe with a prettier loading screen.

          @CyberGenesys @snuke

Yep. The story was just broken down…most of the stuff had no link and explanation. Who was that girl talking to when she said, "Yep they are here, with me now." "Hold off the strike, am on my way".

If all they did was just set us up for a paid DLC, that's pathetic.

I remember their initial interviews mentioned a living dynamic world. Nope, I can close my eyes and tell you what spawns where at exact what time intervals.

Killing the exact same mobs repeatedly. Increasing difficulty just bumps up their armour, hp and attack, nothing else.

And come on, the final bosses of the game is an exact same mini boss you killed 3-4 missions back…

I am glad I didn't buy a CE for this game. I get grinding. I have played years of MMO, but this isn't close to a MMO. If I get bored of grinding, there's tons of other things to 'grind' in a MMO. The world is huge to do random stuff and talk and collect things. Not controlled by a central nexus point where you hop to zones from.

Games came before this had way better main story lore and side mission lores. (Borderlands?)

101 things wrong with the mechanics design. No trading, 3 man limit to strikes, have to have a pre-made for raids, limited game models, bad matchmaking for PVP.

The combat is fluid, I loved the combat controls and how the weapons felt. They were snappy. PVP is fun, but the maps and modes get repetitive after you play them for a week.

I just hope Shadow of Mordor turns out good. At least it wasn't as hyped up as Destiny was. :\

        • @shadowarrior: Agreed with all that. I also dislike how defeating some sort of mega boss will rarely, if ever, drop an item let alone a good item. There is no incentive to take hard missions because apart from XP (which you can get anywhere) there is no reward.

      • I watched that review last night, and I would have to agree with everything he said.

Anyone know when the black friday sale will take place in the US? I wanna get me one of these Playstation Plus memberships on the cheap!

  • You have to pay to play online on PS4? Wow.

    • +3

yeah it's because most people said Xbox Live on the 360 was better than PSN on the PS3, it was mutually agreed from most gamers that paying for the service is better than a lesser quality free service.

    • online multiplayer for PS4 has always been paid. online multiplayer for PS3 was free for the 7 or so years earlier.

the 'bonus' for paying for PS4 online is you also get games each month and discounts from PSN+ membership. Also i recommend you buy PSN+ membership from Amazon for $49.99 USD and create a US based (address) PSN+ account. It'll mean you can buy games cheaper than AUS prices, but still play online against AUS players.

      • +1

The problem is not everyone wants to pay $49.99 for a bunch of shitty indie games or launch titles in a few years time that they don't want.

By all means have a premium service, but I'm sure a pay to play system deters many.

  • Very cool!
