Acer 27" 5ms FullHD Monitor $225 @ MSY (Ends Thursday 25/09)

370

Hey Guys!

Shopping around for a 27" Monitor that's more bang-for-buck than specs-heavy? Here's probably the cheapest I've seen for a 27" Monitor, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong [in true OzBargain style with a neg vote ;) ]

For those who own or have encountered this in the wild, feel free to leave reviews. It'll make my decision on buying one today much easier!

Have a good one!

I can't say anything about this one but in general the resolution of FHD is to low on a 27 inch display IMHO

    • The resolution is more than usable for this size.

For TV, its good. For monitor it wont be that good.

You guys must all have near perfect eyesight. I turn down my Samsung 23 inch monitor at home to 1440x900 at home and only bump it up to full HD for movies and games. I'd rather the slight blur than having to put my face closer to the screen to read the writing. Haven't failed an eyesight test for driving yet without glasses and have one every year but one year soon I will.

          @syousef:
Yeah I used to think that 1440p wasn't that good on 27" for the reasons you are stating. Then I discovered desktop scaling and other things which make it so much better.
I would definitely go 1440p on a 27" (which is what I have now.) Having said that, nothing wrong if you want to spend less on a 1080p 27".. However personally I would go a better 24" 1080p than an inferior 27" 1080p.

The resolution will be fine for this FHD 27" . It's only 3" more than a 24" @ 1080p so I doubt there will be much stretching. Good for the ordinary office worker. If you're a gamer and wanted higher reso you'd actually need to make sure you have a good gfx card along with that.

      won't the 5ms be a let down for gamers? I prefer 1ms refresh rate…

      • -1

Yep hence why this monitor should be perfect for the office user. Or watching movies on would be nice.

I still use 17" LCD's I bought years ago that I wont let go due to being super expensive at the time. They have a 12ms refresh rate and they are still fine for games. Last game I played was BF4.

I wouldnt think 5ms would be an issue unless you are a progamer.

        • +3

Seems I was wrong and that difference makes games unplayable :/

        • @Ads: That oughta learn ya! ;)

Just let 'em worship the numbers, they don't wanna hear that the world won't end if they don't have the most expensive statistics machine money can buy! :)

      • even 5ms is fast enough for any game including FPS. The 4ms difference between the ultra fast 1ms and this won't be noticed by anyone bar the ultra hyper sensitive player that is high redbull and whatnot. And yes, I have monitors with both reponse times.

      A 27" screen has 25% more area compared to a 24".
If both screens are 1080p a 3" difference makes objects 25% bigger.

      A 27" 1440p screen has 75% more pixels.
      Work area is 75% bigger.
      Objects are 55% smaller.

  • Should be fine if you use it at a distance.

    • The Samsung is one of their first releases so I would avoid it for now until they improve it see here

      Samsung U28D590D 28" Affordable 4K Monitor: http://youtu.be/X5YXWqhL9ik

As for the benq it seems like a very bad value for money monitor when you could buy 3 24" monitors for the same price giving over double the screen space.

  • Personally I would spend another $44 for this monitor which increases your resolution by over 50%.

    • You'd get a monitor that requires dual DVI. The description warns you that it won't work with laptops, Macs and "internal GPU" (because we all hang our graphics card outside the case….they mean integrated GPU).

They also warn you about not being able to return it, and you get lumped with shipping costs unless it's DOA.

But msy can take a month to handle screen failures and routinely refuse Monitor refunds and replacements? So like buyer beware either way?

    • they lost me at the dodgy description lol

      • +4

They lost me at 0 feedback lol

        • The price is also unbelievably good, compared to rest of the eBay universe at just under $100 cheaper than the nearest competitor.

It shows 6ms refresh rate on the eBay listing. That isn't good for gaming.

These overclock to 100+ Hz. I've personally seen them hit 118 Hz with no artifacting.

At 100 Hz frame lag is reduced by 6.7 ms. If you have the computer, these a great for gaming

    • That's actually a great monitor! But not from that buyer… 0 feedback is a no go zone.

Ok, I don't know why people are so fussed with the response time. I've played hundreds of games over a wide range of genres. The difference between 5ms and 2ms/1ms is unnoticeable. I've used monotors with those response times, along with dozens of much "slower" monitors. If you think a few ms will give you an edge, then look at improving your internet connection first.

    • I agree and the only games where you are going to get an edge or really notice anything are FPS's

      • +2

Advertised refresh rates/response times are useless. For example, the Asus PB287Q has a 1 ms 'Response Time (GTG)', but a full black to white transistion takes 20ms and input lag is 60 ms.

        http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/asus-pb287q-4k-monitor,3…

      • even on FPS's chances are ppl won't notice it. And as someone else pointed out, input lag is usually higher anyway.

I bought one of these probably about a week and a half ago. I play a lot of FPS (Battlefield 4 / Insurgency / CS:GO etc) and I find it handles it more than well enough at whatever output my GPU can handle. The colour does seem a little dirty at factory settings compared to a 22" Samsung I have sitting next to it, and I haven't had a chance to really muck around with it too much so I can't comment on if that gets better. For the price though and what performance I get out of it, I would give this a thumbs up.

  • 1920 x 1080 @ 27"

    :( no thanks
