The ozbargain above-average 'bargain' price of a PS4 is ~$400. So take that into account too.

  • I bet the 100 are gone already.

    • +3

      Preorders open Oct. 3rd

      Nope

      • +9

Sorry, I bet they are all gone in a few seconds on the 3rd.

  • +1

    Definitely!

  • +5

    works out okay price wise

BUT only 100 units! i wonder if you can cancel your pre-order if you are not one of the 100 that get the ps4 lol

    • +7

You won't know after they ship it either. In their T&C:
If you are eligible for the bonus PS4 you will be advised via SMS after 8th October.
Your order will ship from 7th October.

So in line with their fair returns policy (http://www.virginmobile.com.au/buy-online)
In addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law we’ll refund your purchase if you change your mind (other than a SIM card starter kit) within 10 days of purchase. No questions asked.

No harm in trying I suppose.

      $1440 - $35 (referrral) -$400 (PS4 resale) - $600 (conservative Z3 resale) = $405 over 24 months = $16.88/month for $700 funny money credit and 4GB data. Not bad in light of the recent Vaya price freeze surcharge…

      • +2

Minimum charge is $1560 over 24 months. $5/month on top of the $60 plan.

        • +2

          Thanks! Missed that.

Equates to $21.88/month which makes it ok still but definitely less appealing.

Either way I think Virgin are going to be hit with a lot of cancellations when people find out they're not in the first 100.

        • That's definitely less appealing. In a month's time you'll probably be able to get the Z3 (grey import) for ~600, with a $19/mo TPG plan with $500 calls and text (100mb data though). The phone and that plan add up to a total of ~$1080 over 24 months. You could save yourself $500 (or buy a PS4).

        • @verapa: the lowest price of z3 I can find is $689

        • +3

          @faye:

          "in a month time"

    • doesn't really work out for me. would have to change from a $30 plan to a $65 plan = extra $840 over 24 months…

  • Buy and Sell the PS4. Best business.

  • i was planning on getting a Z3 so will probably sign up to this deal. Hopefully I can snag the ps4.

  • +1

Get the plan, sell the ps4 for $450 and the phone for $750, have a damn good plan for $360 for 2 years.

    $15 month for that data/calls A+

    • +6

I'd like to do this, but:
      * If the kids see the PS4, I'll have zero chance of selling it.
      * I'm likely to be tempted by the z3.

      • Win win..? :P

    • +1

You won't be able to still this for 715

      • Why not?

        • $742 on ebay for grey import… I don't think you'd be able to sell the phone for 715… 700 maybe?

      • if history repeat itself, you can get it under $700 from Telstra shop.

    • +1

be a bit more realistic with your prices… $400 for the PS4 and $600 - $650 for the Xperia Z3, even though theyre brand new to normal people they are "second hand"

  • Amazing deal!

  • 917 Clicks… Its seems to be a good deal but not any more :(

  • or visit any Virgin retail store and get iPhone Flex 128gb for $70 per month?

    • That only includes $300 worth of calls and 300MB (+2GB bonus) data.

  • +2

Good Marketing… $400x100 = $40,000 only, with 5000+ ppl joint the plan trying to get the deal

    More like a competition

    • Will backfire when 4900 then cancel and return the phone and Virgin are hit with all the courier costs.

      • +1

I don't think you return and cancel your contract plan…and they will definitely send out the ps4 after you received the phone :p

        • I was referring to returning if you're not in the first 100.

I think if you don't activate your SIM or open your phone you can ask for a free return as per their stated policy I linked above.

  • +5

How can this qualify for a deal?
The plan itself isn't great and you don't find out whether or not you've got the PS4 until after you purchase the Z3. When you don't win it (and you won't) you then forfeit the $2 simcard starter kit.

Sounds like a handy way to waste time and money.

    • +1

Yer its more of a competition

    • -5

      Whoever neg'd me, please prove this isn't a competition…

  • Agree waste of time - it will be a C.O.T.D …crash…but with a $1400 bill at the end.

If you think you will get one …. expect lengthy calls to the Philippines call center they use - and venting here when you don't get the email to say you have 'won'

Nope… not a deal.. move on nothing to see.

Nothing new - optus have been giving away consoles for years tied in with services. Actually HN as well… and.. TPG and etc…

  • Well its a pre-order I'm sure you can cancel if you don't get your SMS indicating order approved and you are the first 100.

    • Sms is sent on the 8th.. Phones are sent on the 7th… This Will be a hassle. Make sure you don't open anything if you want to cancel.

  • That's… not bad, actually. If you subtract the "above-average bargain price" according to Lukian, comes to around $48/mnth for a new phone + ~35-38/mnth value plan (correct me here, I don't know prices for higher plans well).

    TL;DR - Good price if you want a PS4.

  • +1

Forgetting the PlayStation 4 included, why is this such as bad deal?

I use a lot of mobile data, so 4GB's seems awesome with the Z3 on this contract.

TPG's highest pack is $40 a month for 2.5GB of data, so for an extra $20 a month ($480 total) you get an extra 1.5GB data and you get the Sony Z3.

    • +1

why is this such as bad deal?

Looks like most people are saying is a good deal.

      • +2

A few people are mentioning that it's a marketing thing to bait customers (and I agree with them).

But that said, if you can cancel, it isn't too bad of a deal if you want a PS4.

  • WOuld the phone be network locked?

    • I'd assume so.

      • Damm

    • would be locked to Optus

  • It is a pretty good deal, considering the "older" Z2 is $8 + $60 monthly now.

  • Note you only get the bonus 2gb data pm if you are porting over from a none optus network or are an existing virgin customer upgrading

    • non-optus network? so TPG is not included i assume. damn

      • port out to then back

    • Thanks, I've updated the description to include this.

      • just spoke to someone from virgin and they said its fine as long as it comes from a different provided. I then stated their T&C in regards to this, they told me not to worry about it…..lol..

        • I think I'll believe their written word. If it included existing Virgin customers and all non-Virgin customers, there'd be no point mentioning the restriction at all.

  • It's good only if you're able to actually get the console.

  • I hope they include this adapter with it,

    http://media.gizmodo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/xperia…

    • That looks awesome, I've been trying to connect my ds3 to my z ultra without luck, maybe incompatible otg cable.

Hmmm would be good to play gta with

      • Download the app Sixaxis Controller, or Sixaxis Compatibility Checker prior to buying and you can play your ps3 controller via bluetooth. The Ps4 remote play is being worked on at http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/4-4-4-s… however they are waiting for the application to come out from Sony. (Around November sometime)

    35 Bait advertising
    (1) A person must not, in trade or commerce, advertise goods or services for supply at a specified price if:
    (a) there are reasonable grounds for believing that the person will not be able to offer for supply >those goods or services at that price for a period that is, and in quantities that are, reasonable, having regard to:
    (i) the nature of the market in which the person carries on business; and
(ii) the nature of the advertisement; and
    (b) the person is aware or ought reasonably to be aware of those grounds.

Although the ad says "first 100 preorders" it does not indicate anything that this is a reasonable quantity to provide for preorder. Does it mean that if we click preorder as soon as possible, we will get a free item as promised? When I see other companies offer this type of deal in Australia, they provide a clear indication of how many items are remaining. But in this bait advertising, I see nothing that shows whether I would actually get a PS4TM. In fact it is nothing to do with me but with how many other customers these guys have that will reveal whether I actually get the item as promised. I feel like it's a scam.

This company knows how many preorders that they expect. That should imply that most of the orders placed between the dates will receive the free item. However, from reading other people's posts, I can see that most people believe that they will be gone very soon after the promotion begins.

    • +1

Wouldn't it only be bait advertising if they continued to advertise it after the 100 PS4s had been used up.

      • 100 is not a reasonable amount for the likely demand and virgin mobile know it, I imagine, so it should be considered bait advertising.

  • +1

I was with Virgin for a couple of years. Calls and coverage weren't great but were okay. Web browsing was a nightmare - totally unusable at the end.

    • I've been with Virgin for years (numerous different phones), only recently was I able to open t.co links on my phone. Still can't send/receive MMS.

    • They don't have their own network equipment, they resell/piggyback Optus.

  • isnt this just a competition, first 100 wins a PS4?

  • I'm lining up for this, disconnecting everyone from the internet.

Does anybody know what time on the 3rd this sale is expected to open? Midnight or at 9AM?

Also the PS4 is my main motivation, if I don't get it, I'm sure I'd be able to reasonable exit the contract, right?

    • On-line phone contracts don't have a cooling off period, purchasing over the telephone does. Deal is not available over the phone I believe.

      • +1

        Thanks man,

You're right there is no cooling off period for telecommunication products. However Virgin stipulate a 10 day change of mind policy, so that nice.

  • How'd you find out about this OP? I can't find any info anywhere.

  • Whats the exit strategy if you can't get the PS4? Can you cancel if you don't get the PS4?

    • There's a 10 day change of mind period.

Buy on the 3rd, confirmed for PS4 on the 8th.

      • The change of mind period cover both the contract plan and the phone right?

  • The opening of the pre-order will likely be available from 10am - at a guess that seems to be the time they often refresh the website.

  • Anyone wants to share his/her Virgin Mobile referral for both of us to get $35 credit, please drop me a PM asap :D

    • Pmed, please check.Thank you.

      • Used it to register, Thx a ton

      • Hello,
Are you allowed to make more than one referrals? I would like a referral too.
        Thanks

        • You need to set your account to receive pm.
Give me a pm when you ready, so I will send another referral.

        • @couger: Ok I have enabled private messages. I can't send PMs since I created an account on ozbargain today.

Edit: Oops I figured I shouldn't be asking for referrals. Can't delete my posts now.

      • Hey can I get a referal as well thanks!

        • Pmed you,
          Oh waiting waiting.

  • Does anyone know when the network switch would happen? So if we are switching providers it will just be a hassle if they switch us before advising PS4 or no PS4.

    • +1

When ordering online, they will either ship a blank sim to you (and you'll have to call them to activate the new sim) or will ask you to go to a store to get a sim and activate it.

With Virgin, they usually give you a temporary number on the Virgin plan. Once you lose mobile services on your old sim, means the number is on the new sim. They say up to 2 days, but usually takes a couple of hours or less.

Edit: Since they will advise you about the PS4 after they've shipped the phone to you, my guess is you'll be switching before you actually receive the PS4 (if you've been informed you're eligible to receive one)

      • Thanks mr91wa

  • Still online orders not enabled ?

    • starts tomorrow

  • Silly question, is the $60 plan using 4G?

    • Yep, sure is.

  • +3

So I'm here refreshing the page. I'm guessing it's not 12am AEST.

    • +3

      God knows when…………..

    • I called them earlier and they confirmed it would be midnight, buuuuuuuut doens't quite look like it

      • A website ping service I use said there was a change around midnight, but I couldn't see any changes.

    • Me too…

    • So it's now 12am WAST…I'm going to bed.

Going to be quite ticked off if it ends up being 10am AEST or something.

  • yep, same here
    just Hwaiting

  • +1

Do you think as a new member the security check required by Virgin will delay the order completion?

'We’ll need to do a credit check before setting you up with a monthly billing account. For info on how we handle your credit information, including the credit reporting bodies we work with and are likely to disclose it to, check out our Privacy Policy'

    • It's the credit check that will slow the new subscribers.

I'm also not too sure whether D&B or Veda (credit scoring agencies) will be doing the checks at this hour though.

      • Yeah but the way i see it, when you enter all your details and click the 'place order' button it should then create a reference/ order number along with a time stamp of the order. The Credit check would then be an additional security measure which would delay the account being activated but should not alter the time the order was placed. As the deal is for the first 100 orders i don't see this conflicting, although this is my own guess how the system would work. Could not find any information in the T&C indicating the security check must be cleared before it holds you a place in the queue. A little confusing.

EDIT- For new members its obviously a slower process due to having to sign up and enter more data in text fields but i think data entry will be the only thing that slows it and not the process itself.

        • From the Fine Print:

Bonus PS4: offer only available online and for the first 100 approved pre-orders placed between 3 October and 8 October 2014 inclusive.

But yeah whichever. I've worked in mobile phone sales before and credit checks get snagged all the time, especially with Virgin.

        • @mr91wa:
Very interesting, security check can most definitely fall under being 'approved'. Feels like new customers don't have much of a realistic chance, not sure how long a security chance typically takes but when you are against the clock, its definitely a disadvantage.
