Aren't we up to the Z3 already? $400 for something 2 generations old and a mediocre display seems a bit Apple.

It is still a phone from this year and quite capable.
It's also not two generations old, as the compact skipped a generation, name wise.
Not sure if you're getting the Z1 confused with the compact as this one has a IPS screen, not a TFT.

.. Yes. Now I look like an idiot and too late to edit :u

at least your smart enough to admit your mistake!
unlike the people who keep + voting your uninformed comment. :/

  • I would only buy this because i drop my phone often, and the cameras are great.

How is the call quality on Z Series/1, considering the the shell is built to withstand so much? Id imagine it would be less reliable for Skype calling.

    • I'd recommend against buying for those reasons. The phone isn't impact resistant (only water) and the camera sucks with a lot of noise and overprocessing - despite being 21 MP it's vastly inferior to the 13 MP cameras on the S4, G2, etc. Hell I actually prefer the optically stabilised 4 MP camera on my old HTC One.

  • Do any of the other compact phones compare well at this price?

The Galaxy mini's and LG mini's are all gimped variants of their bigger siblings, and aren't particularly high end. S5 mini for e.g has less RAM (1.5GB) and a slower clocked quad Exynos.
The Z1 Compact is a good choice (if not, only choice, apart from iPhone) if you want a beasty compact phone under 4.5 inches.

Xperia Z1 Compact is the best compact smartphones out there at the moment if you don't compare it to Galaxy Alpha, or it's successor Z3 Compact.

Galaxy Alpha is not exactly compact because it's nearly the size of Galaxy S3 and it's battery still couldn't compete with Z1 Compact. I do have to vouch for the Exynos version Octa Chipset. It's fast but no expandable memory and smaller battery (Ultra Power Saving might get you further?). 4.7" vs 4.3" display and metal build maybe for your consideration. Price? Expect to pay $200 more than Z1 Compact for grey imports.

Z3 Compact on the other hand still the same size as Z1 Compact but slimmer. Faster processor put in, and better battery performance. Nearly 60% longer than Z1 Compact. Retail package comes with noise cancelling headphones too which is about AUD$50 in eBay. Z3 Compact from eglobal is $558.xx delivered (Grey).

    Just my 2 cents. =)

  • I would get a Z1 (non compact) for this price.

Then head down to your local MSY, its been at this price for ages.

    • depends on what you needs / wants are, z1 is larger screen, z1c is smaller screen

  • Are there still problems with GPS on this phone?

  • Black is now available at this price, white is no longer on the site.

  • Just bought the last black one from JB Artarmon ^_^
