I know there has been a lot of 'anger' around the pricing on their eBay store in the lead up to the 20% promo code, but bargains still to be had.

  • Last TV I bought was a Dick Smith GE6606. It had issues with vga port that apparently were because of firmare. Dick Smith don't offer firmware updates…

Would this be any good as a computer monitor through the HDMI port?

If you took 10 seconds to think about it you would realize it's too big

If YOU took 10 seconds to think about it, you would realise that what you said is bollocks. I use a 55" Sony lcd TV as a monitor, and quite frankly, I couldn't go back to using a smaller screen.
Just because it's too big for you, doesn't mean it won't work for others. ;)

Agreed, I use a 50" and wish I had the cash to upgrade to a 70"

      • Just purchased a 40" myself for the main gaming monitor. Works great.

No. It says 'Progressive Scan No'. I have a 42" DSE TV and it definitely does not support 1080p over HDMI. Also, there is no way to disable overscan. Stay clear!

  • damn I paid $328 with delivery and then had to travel to StarTrack Express to pick it up anyway :(

Good TV for the price though, very pleased.

As usual, it is my personal vendetta to comment on every DSE TV I see that when Dick Smith advertises 'Full HD', that is NOT synonymous with 1080p and they have definitely sold 'Full HD' TVs that only support 1080i over HDMI and without the ability to disable overscan. Unbelievable that this still happens in 2014.

    Wow cheap.. for 40"

As an alternative check your local Big W. Purchased a 40" Full HD Viano one there a few days back for $299, 48" Full HD Viano was $399. lots of stock as well.
Apparently an Aussie brand but for the price I am loving it. Set it up as my main gaming monitor on my pc.

I bought a viano 40" for same price delivered and use it as a PC monitor. It looks great!

And it actually supports 1080p not just 1080i!

Thanks for the tips Ravensbane and Danstar. That's really useful information.
