  • I assume this would only be good for productivity stuff like having 2 documents open side by side or in photoshop/illustrator. I doubt it would be any good for gaming at this "weird" resolution

    • I've seen a number of draftsman use them, and the fill up the left/right edges with their menus and buttons.

21:9 monitors can be absolutely amazing for gaming, here is some info on why http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=838097

Yep, I can confirm ultra-widescreen gaming is pretty cool with the right games, if you have the gfx card horsepower.

Lately I've been playing Battlefield 4 in roughly 32:10 (slightly lowered gfx settings) and it fills a large chunk of my peripheral vision. A subtle effect but quite powerful.

        • I always steered clear of these thinking they wouldn't be good for gaming but after reading your reviews and links, my next monitor would be a 21:9 for sure

    • 21:9 is true Widescreen cinema format.

    • -1

no, it would be perfectly useless. 99% of all documents are convention "portrait mode"
      Screen height is 250mm, compared to 299mm for a 24" 16:9.

Fine for playing games or watching movies. Useless for work.
A 19" 16:10 monitor has more vertical space than this one.

I reckon 21:9 is close enough, but my math professor friend from UNSW insists that
    2560:1080 is 64:27 or 4^3:3^3

  • Is any laptop able to output this resolution?

    • -2

yes and or maybe no depending on what you were asking.

      • Either via VGA or HDMI? Onboard graphics etc

  • Hmm I was about to buy a second hand 27" 2560x1440 Samsung PLS (LS27A850TS) for $280. Now I'm tempted by this. Only using it for productivity (ie websites, photoshop etc). Is that even cheap for second hand?

    Will this suffice?

Will HDMI 1.4a (from my W230SS laptop with a GTX 860m) run it fine?

    • +1

I would take the samsung, especially for productivity work.

      • Okay cheers for that. Does anyone else also recommend the 27" Samsung (1440p) PLS over this?

I was about to pull the trigger but l don't think it's much of an upgrade over my 23".

For a size comparison, this tool is amazing:

  • Can someone please recommend a good monitor for my Mac mini. Currently using a LG 23" led but looks like the colours are just not right. Use it mainly for storing and editing photos but if I playback the same photos on my TV or laptop, the colours are completely different. Might just be my settings but not sure. Thanks

It's an excellent price from a dodgy retailer.

I bought a Kogan TV that was Dead On Arrival.
Kogan says it that physical damage is excluded under warranty and if I wanted it fixed I will need to pay for shipping back to HK, pay for a technician to examine it, pay for parts needed for the repair and pay for the repair costs.
They quoted me a $300 repair bill for a TV that cost $250.
F*** you Kogan, just because you operate overseas doesn't mean your business has to be dodgy.

Sorry OP, the neg if for Kogan, not your deal. It's a warning for others that might try and save $40 and fall into the same trap as me.

    • Haha it's all good, I'd feel the same way if I went through all that.

    • I've heard similar stories to yours.
I'm not buying off Kogan any time soon

    • After listening to your story, DSE doesn't look that dodgy any more.
      Thank you Kogan.

    • Kogan customer service was just fine for me. Bought a 42in 3D smart tv off them when first came out. Turned out faulty. Immediately lodged a request for exchange. Raised it on Twitter as well. Courier came the with 2 days. New TV also arrived within a week. Unfortunately a dud also. Request a refund, courier came the following day again. refund back into my credit card within 2 weeks.

Bit disappointed with the product but service was fine.
