$40 of Free Credit When You Sign up to The Hertz 24/7 Carshare Service in Sydney or Gold Coast

70

I am a member of this car sharing service and received this today in an email:

http://us4.campaign-archive1.com/?u=691d16e68fa654ac80447d17…

I have done extensive research on the various car sharing services operating in Australia (for an upcoming report through our Spending Hacker service) and strongly believe they offer the best value car sharing service in this country.

This is for the following reasons:

  • No joining fees, ongoing fees or security deposits of any kind.

  • No need to commit to any level of usage.

  • Fully inclusive rates (including petrol and insurance) that are the lowest for any competing car sharing services that I have come across in my research. http://hertz247.com.au/rates

  • No Km restriction when hiring by the hour and up to 350km when hiring by the day (any hire longer than 8 hours will automatically be charged at the daily rate).

  • You can access the cars even without having the security token by entering a PIN on the car's PIN pad.

  • Booking a car is super easy and can be done either through the website or with the extremely user-friendly iOS and Android apps. I have actually tested it and timed myself (as part of the research for our upcoming report) and it took me less than 4 minutes to book a car through the app.

The service operates in Sydney and the Gold Coast ONLY so will only be useful to those of you who either live or visit there. Given signing up is free and with no obligation to ever use it in the future (even though they do require your personal details including drivers license and credit card), you can sign up and collect your free credit now and ask questions later (like all of us good ozbargainers do :) ).

In order to get the free $40 credit, you need to enter the full name of an existing member in the promotion code box during the sign up process. You will see it at stage 3 of the sign-up process after you supplied your drivers license number and credit card details.

I'd greatly appreciate if you could enter mine but you are also welcome to enter the name of anyone else you know who is a current Hertz 24/7 member.

Just to give you an idea, $40 will get you 4 hours of free hire with an economy car (like a Hyundai i30) and just over 2.5 hours of free hire with a 'prestige' car (like a BMW for example).

Finally, here is how Hertz 24/7 compares against their competition, according to their own analysis:
http://hertz247.com.au/competitors

I believe this promotion is until the end of October but will extend the expiry date if I manage to confirm it goes for longer than that.

Cheers everybody.

Referral code is: Michael Ginsburg.
Both the referrer and the referree get $40 credit.

In the interests of full disclosure, you should mention that you get $40 credit from a referral.

Also, the email says: 'you can both drive for free in October'
    So does the credit expire?

    • So would this work:

Person A signs up and uses original posters as referral. Person A gets $40 credit, as does original poster.

Person B signs up and uses person A as referrer. Person A gets another $40, person B gets $40.

      ?

      • I would hope so.

I have written to Hertz24/7 to clarify the credit expiry date. I will report their response.

Customer service have written back to me and they said that credit would expire on 31st December.

"Your credit won't expire until the end of this year. The 31st of December
2014 will be the last day you have to use your credit. Please be sure to
enter your friends name in the promo code field to ensure you both receive
        your credits."

I signed up through a referral myself when I joined (like every self-respecting ozbargainer should) and received $25 in credit (that's what they were giving out at the time).

I used the service for the first time almost a year after I was given that $25 credit and it was still valid (ended up paying $15 for a 4 hour rental).

It is possible they changed the expiry time for this promo but that is how it worked in the past.

  • Seems interesting….

  • So how do I get $40? Do I need to enter the code of some sort when I sign up?

    • I'm going to quote myself. Hope you don't mind ;)

      • Mate, I've used your details to sign up my account.

Do you know when would we receive the credit and how to check?

        • Thanks mate :).

I think it takes a few days from memory. They will email you and you can also check your member account with them online.

        • @ginmi: Signed up with your referral code. How do I know when I get $40 credit?

        • @superbass: as per above:

They will email you and you can also check your member account with them online.

    Done :)

  • Just FYI everyone, this referral scheme is still running.

Also, I was able to get official confirmation from Hertz 24/7 that any credit earned through this scheme will expire on 31/12/2014.
