  • I was desperately waiting for the skype cards 50%.. thanks op

    • +1

      Why not try 12-month, Unlimited-calls Skype Subscription(s):

We pay $149.50 for unlimted calls to 40+ overseas lands (some lands include unlimited calls to the their mobiles).

You get 3 Incomeing (DID) numbers (which can be in as many countries).

Sometimes, buying additional Skype subscriptions can be at discounted prices, when they offer specials, so maybe buy together.

      That's what we call VALUE.

(Disclaimer: We only Buy it; we don't sell it, etc.)

      • The last time I bought a DID, the cost came out of my 50%-discounted Skype credit.

That could mean the $149.50 12-month subscription should effectively cost $74.75.

Has anyone done that and confirmed it?

edit: yes, EC has done it. Bargain!

        • Yes, This means you need to go buy 6 x $25 Skype cards which will cost $75

      • That is what I buy.. I but it for $116 but always look for 50% off so essentially i get ti for $60 approx

      • Can you share info on where the Incoming DID numbers are included in the subscription?

I can't see that anywhere on the Skype site. Only the separate option of purchasing a Skype number for $80 / year.

        • I also don't belived you get 3 incoming numbers?
You sure your not on a old plan?

  • When it start-finish ?

  • +5

Is this in store only? On the website I don't see a mention of the discount.

    • +1

      I second that … :-( !!

    • +1

Might be instore only. Went through the entire checkout process trying to buy the $25 one and it kept asking for payment of $25..no discount..

  • +2

Could the Event Cinema cards be used with Telstra Tickets to get a further 20% off?

    • +6

Yes, you can pay for a Telstra movie ticket using the gift card at checkout.

  • +1

Thanks op. Been waiting for the Skype credit for some time.

  • 50% Off $44.90 amaysim Unlimited Plan (Buy a $2 SIM in-store, activate online and receive 50% off the $44.90 amaysim UNLIMITED plan.

Better off buying it online as they also have 50% off with code SAVE050 and saving $2 i.e. SIM cost and avoiding the 15 min queue wait

    50% off Skype Gift cards

    +1 for this
Great for the premium Yearly plan which includes mobile phone calls IIRC (unless they removed it) which ends up ~ $60 after discount

    • 15 min queue wait v how may days to receive by post?

      • Order from amaysim website. They have 3 hr or next day delivery.

  • +1

AHHH! I was waiting for the Skype promotion but my subscription ran out in Sep, so bought the $10 cashback for $50 spend offer at Woolies. Maybe I can buy them now and use later? They do have at least 12 months validity right?

    • correct 12 months

    • +2

You can just use the gift cards now and put credits to your skype account. As far as I know, existing account credit never expires. You can just pre-select the payment method as 'skype credit' for your annual subscription so that they debit the existing credit for the subscription payment in due time.

  • can you use this credit to purchase a Skype Own Number?

    • yes, its treated as normal money

      • Yes you can, this is what I do.

  • Tanks TRENT86, been waiting for Skype cards :)

    • u in da fence ?

  • Are these available at all Auspost locations?

  • -1

is skype credit the cheapest way to call china?

    • How many hours are you thinking about?

    • it depends, Skype Premium 12 months is normally AU$67.49, half price is hard to resist.

Telstra has Global Bundle plan ($AU100 per month) includes 200GB broadband and unlimited calls to 32 countries, Call Centre is able to offer $10 discount, field sales can do further $10 discount.

There are VoIP SP with $5 monthly fee, you get a DID number and something like 100 free calls every month.

I signed Telstra plan, but VoIP with DID on my mobile ensures myself can be reached even staying overseas.

      • +2

thanks for the replies everyone, i call to china everyday and the duration is usually 30-60min/day. (yes i call a lot because my grandparents and my best friends are over there).

Skype gift cards 50% off at Coles and Woolies starts wednesday 8th Oct 2014.

    (if not near PO)

    • Guess I will be buying them from Cole then

    • +1

@snappy1234, thank you, that is very helpful.

    • You should post a deal for this! For people who don't see this comment! Also you posted this a good 6 hours before the catalogue was released, wizardry?

      • +1

        @yessum
Recd the paper catalogues yesterday :)

  • New to Skype - can someone educate me briefly?

I only used Skype for the 1st time yesterday, was quite cool - worked out how to use camera.
So my question is, if what I did via Skype yesterday was free, why/what are people paying for?

I'm guessing one can't use with someone overseas unless has the paid version?

    • +1

Here is some info on Skype and how it works http://computer.howstuffworks.com/internet/tips/how-to-use-s…

      • Really appreciate it, I'll have a look.

    • +3

Skype to Skype (video and audio) is free. Always has been. The problem is that you both need to have the Skype application installed on your PC, tablet, laptop or phone.

You can also use Skype to call people's landlines or mobile phones (even if the recipient doesn't have Skype installed on their device). In order to do this you need to pay $$ (either per minute or you can get a package that includes unlimited time).

      • Most cool, thanks kindly.

    • +2

In my case, I have a Melbourne Landline phone number on my Skype account. This is a paid service, so the giftcard can cover that expense. I use this number when I'm travelling overseas (Japan next week), so I have my Aussie mobile number diverted to the skype number. I get to receive all Aussie calls, and make Aussie calls at cheap local rates while travelling. And I get discounted 'phone card' rates to call foreign numbers when I'm travelling overseas. It's cheaper than roaming on my mobile phone. And more convenient to always be in touch considering I use data packs overseas more than phones and sms messaging.

      • Bingo! definitely going to have to have a good look at as am going to be doing some intl. travel soon myself. Seems cool AND handy. Shouldn't push my luck but now wondering where/if one might find intl. calling rates (inc Skype) comparisons on the net? Only have 'medium' net use skills. :oS Perhaps it's in a 'league of it's own' and straight out comparisons can't be made? (i.e. visual/camera option)

Lots of helpful info - thanks kindly all.

      • thought data packs while overseas are very expensive. how do you do this? thanks.

        • +1

Just get a local prepaid sim card with data. You'll need a second phone if you want to receive SMSes sent to your aussie number though.

  • +2

Note to those who are planning to renew their 'Skype Premium' to call India, it has been taken off the listed countries.

    • +1

My understanding is you can still call India from outside India (Australia, USA). Skype is not available when you are in India to call Indian mobiles and Indian Landlines.

      • +1

India is removed altogether from the "50 Countries" for subscription plans.
You need to ue payg plans which is costlier to call India (you cheaper option by other VOIP)

  • For anyone who has Office 365 and is getting the 60 minutes per month, combine this deal with the fact you get 50% off a Skype Number to get a DID number with Skype for $20 per year instead of $80

  • +2

I can confirm Officeworks will match and 5% price beat auspost cinema cards promotion, you just need the link OP provided or the paper to the original advertisement.

I have been waiting for greater Union movie deal, since greater Union only have a promo once a year $30 for $40 cards.

  • is auspost open today?

    • +1

      Nope not public holidays.

    • Check online..depends which state

  • +1

Try Auspost Bondi Junction - it used to be open on Sunday but haven't been for sometime!

  • tried online and nearby auspost, none selling $10 skype cards for $5, they all scan $10, what sorcery is this?!?! :P

    • +2

      show them the online catalogue

    • +1

i think its only for the $25 one

      • When you click on the photo in the catalogue it says 50% off Skype cards, not 50% off $25 Skype cards :)

    • The $25 skype cards also scanned at $25 because Austpos has not updated their system but because the 50% off Skype cards promotion is shown in their latest catalogue for the period from today, 6th Oct to 2nd Nov I managed to buy them @ 50% off at Cockburn Central. They would only give me the 50% off on the $25 cards and not on the $10 cards.

  • Just bought a skype gift car, but when I try and redeem online it says "This voucher code has already been redeemed"
    wtf?

    • +1

Same, went back and the lady told me it could take up to 24 hours to activate.

      • Yes they can take up to 72 hours to activate

        • I've purchased Skype cards from Big W and they were usable instantly.

        • @wizzlesticks:
This is what i notice also

      • I'm having the same issue. I just spoke to a Skype live chat agent and they said Skype vouchers have no delay. They can be redeemed as soon as it is purchased from the register.

  • Funny how these things are cyclical like clockwork. I just cashed in on the 50% off Skypecards I bought a year ago exactly before this deal came out.

    • You will get them deals every year, last year they were 90% , 75% and 50% off though out the whole year as who would buy them at full cost

  • You think it has anything to do with the public holiday?

    • No? If it was? they were would charge 10% extra

  • +1

bonus - get skype premium & save 33% on top of the 50% when buying the skype card
    https://secure.skype.com/catalog/buy/premium
$116.49 is the premium - this includes the 33% disc.

  • love the event deal! combined with telstra rewRArds or that other $8 voucher.. our movie date nights paid for the whole yr.

  • One Postoffice didn't have the $25 ones available. He claimed he had no idea what Skype was.

    • LMAO

  • should all post offices have them available for bulk of promo period or can they run out? ( online store is out of 25 buck Skype.cards)

  • Can you buy any kind of kit which connects to existing phones (like DECT) which allows you to receive incoming Skype calls or direct outgoing calls to use your included Skype minutes?

EDIT : May have answered my own Q - anyone using anything like this : http://www.amazon.com/FreeTalk-FREETALK-1200-Connect-Skype-A…

  • Online store is now in stock of Skype gift cards. I decided to just buy two and opt for the 300 minute plan
