I wanted to get 1 from Sony store but they was out of stock so I looked around and found this guy. I think this is good a deal for those who missed the PS4 bundle.

  • Do they actually have stock though?

$599 posted… Which you need to include in the title.

Telstra is selling the handset for $600 and you have local warranty.

    Telstra store - $600

I really feel like there should be an automated warning about this company to the tune of "check the shipping rates". For $559 + $30 shipping, I think I'd rather buy from Telstra and call it a day. This is so close to RRP that it's not worth it, I think.

  • Telstra's release date is 14th, I think Optus and Sony are released sooner.

Optus is $624, Telstra is $600

The cheapest at the moment is DWI $550 delivered.

Optus has them in stock as of this morning.

There's no need to buy Sony phones when they just come out… because the price of their phones drop too quickly.
Wait 2 months and it will be under $500, possibly even $450

    • No need to buy a new car either, because the price drops as soon as you drive it out the driveway…

Sony brings out new models faster than others. Like, within months.

        • They had to release new models, because they identified the design flaws of the previous model.
I have seen Xperia Z series, and they look great. But there were few complaints about their self cracking screens.
for example Xperia Z had a bad reputation for self cracking screens. apparently they fixed it up to some extent with Xperia Z1.
Still there were reports of self cracking screens in Z1 series, so they released Z2 to fix the Z1's issues.
Yes it reduced the number of complaints, but still some unfortunate Z2 owner's had the self cracking problem.
Now we have Z3, I don't know whether this new phone has a permanent fix for self cracking issue.

May be only less than 1% of Xperia owners's were unfortunate enough to have cracked screen, but that does't say there is no issue.

@malkakas: That may have something to do with it, but my philosophy is that they want to catch up with the numbering of the popular phones (iPhone and Galaxy S series). A bit like how Netscape "skipped" number 5 to appear newer than Internet Explorer (Gosh, I'm old).
I just bought a Z1, which in terms of specs is very much up-to-date still, but cheap because it's two versions behind. Good value IMO.
I think the self-cracking had much to do with tension from having it in pockets. That, plus inflation by media (bit like the iPhone 6: of course it will bend if you apply enough force).

      • You're comparing apples and oranges, and later doesn't mean not buying at all.

I agree with clse945111, because of Sony's 6 months cycle, their price drops significantly in very short period. Two months wait for a new smartphone is reasonable, plus you have a chance to see if the phone have any manufacturing defects or design flaws. Your example of new car being driven out is not in context, driven out means it used, second hands regardless how long you have own it, cause 1001 things could happens in your short ownership.

But I digress, despite what Sony says about "6 month' cycles, the same is true about every Android OEM, there's always a new clone, they just don't explicitly say 'flagship' but happy to charge you $700.

    4.6" is hardly phablet territory.

    • +6

Very true, if i was looking for a new phone right now I'd consider that to be about the perfect size.
Sony are about the only manufacturer getting the right balance of performance in the smaller size, everyone else is making big/powerful and small/reduced specs phones and very few are trying to cater for people who don't want to compromise on specs just to stay with a smaller frame size.

  • Why would you pay $600 for a 4.6" 720p phone?

    • Because you can't see a higher resolution at that size anyway, and because it is as powerful as a larger phone. I would prefer this size over something bigger. But as @raydragon said, most manufacturers assume people who want a small screen also want small performance.

      • You actually can see the difference.

Though regardless of the screen resolution, the phone is still categorized as a premium flagship phone with the specs. To be honest I think $600 is surprisingly cheap to start with.

That resolution doesn't require the same performance as a 1080p or 1440p phone.

        And I can tell the difference between 400ppi (1080p) and 500ppi (1440p). I can definitely tell 300+ppi (720p).

The phone isn't bad, but at these prices you can get a 1080p phone when they're on sale. S5's have gone for $500. And I think LG G3's have gone for less than this, which are 1440p and the hardware is just as good or better.
