Personally my favourite strategy game made, epic unit cap and very logical (imho) upgrade paths and running costs. All games are Steam activated.

• Cossacks: European Wars
• Cossacks: The Art of War
• Cossacks: Back to War
• Cossacks: Campaign Expansion (DLC)
• American Conquest
• American Conquest: Fight Back
• Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars
• Cossacks II: Battle for Europe

I'm not a huge fan of Cossacks II, and I suggest new players start with Cossacks: Back to War (the newest of the originals) or American Conquest (kind of Cossacks 1.5). Only downside to these games is getting multiplayer working can be a bit of a pain.

Normally $19.99 on Steam, historical low of $4.99.

  I really like this series of games. They are quite complex and challenging as far as RTS games go, and despite being 10+ years old, the 2D graphics look quite good - 2D age less quickly than 3D engines. They are n good alternative to Age of Empires 2.

  Anyone at least vaguely in Chess should also pick up battle VS chess from BundleStars as it currently is discounted by 83% (to $3.40 US). however, it has a 3rd party DRM in additional to Steam :(
