Hmmm, i5 4690 prices are $20 dearer than netplus, although the r9 290 is cheaper than MSY but then again I'm in Vic so you've just got an order!

thanks for your support :). We are battling with dropping AUD & increased in Cost.

    $259 is a deal? I didn't realise it was opposite day today…

Last few times the deal was for $229!
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/156711
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/152369
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/148364

Why is older tech getting more expensive?

    • Harder to source new units, so getting more expensive due to scarcity? But agree, doesn't really feel like much of a deal this time. Still, good service from these guys, so if you were going to buy one anyway, may as well get it here.

    • Well half the price difference could being the 5% movement in currency between AU and US between the date of the last deal you listed and now.

SE seem to have the best delivered price from a quick google

    • AUS/USD has dropped a lot in the past few months. Expect all tech stuff to get more expensive. If you can find one cheaper, please post details

      http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=AUD&to=USD&view=1Y

      • +1

If it was related to the AUS $ drop other tech items like HDD's would also become more expensive with time.

For example the WD Red 4TB has had some good deals lately.
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/wd+Red+4TB

        • Did you even read the search results? Majority of them are from Amazon, one is a good deal from PLE and some other random store I've never heard of, and a few of them were from eBay with the 15% off voucher!

The AU$ started crashing in September, nothing you posted there proved there is still 'some good deals lately' apart from the PLE one, which was an opening special for the new Mekbourne store.

        • From the search results…

          WD Red 4TB Feb $219
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/134208

          WD Red 4TB Sept $189
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/162072

          WD Red 4TB Sept $188
          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/163315

In this example this particular model of HDD has gone down in promotional price compared to Feb. If the Aus $ had that much of an effect on promotional price the N54L would not have increased.

I suspect that the N54L is running low on stock in Aus, thus retailers not able to give promotional discounts to customers.

          @Saiya:

          Hi Saiya,

I appreciate your support for us on ozbargain for the past years till now and providing feedback of your current disappointment. We are just as disappointed that prices have to move up. Prices of Microservers have gone up as a whole (not just N54L) and we are offering our best possible price for everyone today before they see another price up on all models.

In any case, the offer for N54L has been removed so we hope the discussion & focus can continue for Gen 8 Microserver. It is a "while stock last" product too.

          Cheers
          SE

        • @Saiya:

Ok, so your point is that in 8 months the price of hard drives have come down? Wow.. I'm shocked that technology comes down in price. I thought everything only went up the longer it had been released. Why aren't I still paying $200 for a 80GB hard drive? :S

If the Aus $ had that much of an effect on promotional price the N54L would not have increased.

Except if the price had already bottomed out (or else they'd end up giving them away for free at some point) and the only way to go from there was up due to the AU$. You can't compare the price of hard drives from 8 months ago and go 'LOOK HARD DRIVES HAVE COME DOWN IN PRICE WHY ARE YOU INCREASING THE PRICE OF XYZ?!?!?!!?!!?!?' Hard drives always come down, the same as CPU's, GPU's etc all come down in price as something else is ready to replace them to increase the price back up again for the next 'better' thing.

I really wouldn't think it's that hard for someone to understand, obviously I was wrong.

        • @Porthos:

Reading your reply you are obviously very narrow minded and do not see the whole picture.

Allow me to take the time to explain it to you.

"I thought everything only went up the longer it had been released. Why aren't I still paying $200 for a 80GB hard drive? :S"

With IT products as time goes by they will go down in price to a certain point, where it will then flat line.

(or else they'd end up giving them away for free at some point)

This statement is just ridiculous. If company's were to give out free products they would be out of business.

all come down in price as something else is ready to replace them to increase the price back up again for the next 'better' thing.

Exactly! If components are going down in price with time, same would be said for these micro systems.

Porthos lets agree to disagree. As ShoppingExpress has requested lets keep these comments to their current deal.

        • @Saiya:

Reading your reply you are obviously very narrow minded and do not see the whole picture.

LOL. Oh wow, you say that yet your other replies are absolute gems..

With IT products as time goes by they will go down in price to a certain point, where it will then flat line.

Wow.. guess even making sarcasm obvious still means it will go right over some people's heads. You do realise I said the exact same thing, but obviously if I say that things flatline I'm "narrow minded" but if you say it you're "absolutely genius".

This statement is just ridiculous. If company's were to give out free products they would be out of business.

Again, sarcasm! Holy hell, it was to show the point that obviously if things have flat lined (as the N54L has) that if the AU$ goes down, the only way for imported products like it is up!

Exactly! If components are going down in price with time, same would be said for these micro systems.

Err no, the next thing is it either drops out of the product catalogue or just stays at the same price (wholesale). Going back to the hard drives, do you notice how you can never buy the lower hard drive capacities below 500GB now? Even wondered why that is?

I would explain it to you, but seems it'd be a lost cause.

        • @Porthos:

          guess even making sarcasm obvious

          Again, sarcasm!

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

AU$ goes down, the only way for imported products like it is up!

Absolutely the Aus$ has taken a dive. However there is always a 'buffer' on when it will start to have the price rise effect to retailers. This is due to stock on hand at both the retailers and distributors. It all depends on what price they have purchased the product at that particular time.

Err no, the next thing is it either drops out of the product catalogue or just stays at the same price (wholesale).

There have been times when manufacturers sell below cost price to get it out of the door to save floor space. With the HP 54L the demand will be there. In this case HP don't need to have a fire sale as buyers are still purchasing this model.

do you notice how you can never buy the lower hard drive capacities below 500GB now? Even wondered why that is?

With technology moving at a fast pace HDD manufacturers are in competition with each other to provide the highest storage capabilities for the greatest value. With everything moving to digital including photos and home videos, under 500GB is really nothing to some people. So HDD manufacturers will naturally drop older technology in their range. SSD's on the other hand is a different story. These can range from 60GB to 1TB.

        • @Saiya:

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

Guess what they say about people who can't understand it then? ;-)

Absolutely the Aus$ has taken a dive. However there is always a 'buffer' on when it will start to have the price rise effect to retailers. This is due to stock on hand at both the retailers and distributors. It all depends on what price they have purchased the product at that particular time.

And how big do you think the 'buffer' is then? We're talking about computer parts here sold in PC stores, not brand name computers from the likes of JB/HN who have massive mark-ups on them.

There have been times when manufacturers sell below cost price to get it out of the door to save floor space. With the HP 54L the demand will be there. In this case HP don't need to have a fire sale as buyers are still purchasing this model.

So you have just totally changed your point now about complaining that the price of the N54L has gone up since the last 'sale'. Well done.

With everything moving to digital including photos and home videos, under 500GB is really nothing to some people. So HDD manufacturers will naturally drop older technology in their range. SSD's on the other hand is a different story. These can range from 60GB to 1TB.

You're still missing the obvious point, so guess I will have to explain it to you.

With 500GB 3.5" drives available for ~$54, and a 1TB drive going for ~$60 (rough MSY price), what price would a 100GB/250GB etc go for then? At some point, the fixed base cost (the sum of the parts minus the different platter/s used) would have a cost that just couldn't go any lower without losing money on each and every one, so with these they then decide to drop the lower ones. Plenty of people would gladly have a smaller hard drive to save a little bit more money if they barely used any storage space.

Wait till SSD's start getting into the multi TB capacity, then you'll see the loss of the 64GB ones. It's exactly the same as the loss of the 32GB ones when the higher capacity ones come out, driving down the price of the lower capacity ones in the process.
