    Selling bhagwan's name, eh?

      • +15

        Guys, Chill,
This is a not for profit project I started to help the Hindu Community since there was no single place to get information on Hindu Temples and their websites are notoriously difficult to navigate and get the most basic information in a user friendly and easy way.

Completely understand if you don't want to support the project. The same info is available for free on the website.

        Selling bhagwan's name, eh?

Hmm trying to make it self sustaining in whatever small way possible, so we can map more temples and get them online. Esp from India and other places.

        PS: I didn't neg you.

  • umm isn't this already on Google Maps?

    • +6

umm isn't this already on Google Maps?

Well Google has everything, there's still a need and place for Trip Advisor and the like ;-) More to do with curated , organized and verified content.

      If you need something extra,

The App lets you get all the data you need on local temples and save it offline as a handy reference, so you don't need Google again ;-)

  • +1

Temples in Pakistan…..hmmmm… mapping them will be a hard mission to undertake :P

You can call / email / get directions to the Temples right from within the app.

I can assure you. No temple in India will answer your call or reply to your email to give you directions. You are better off asking your local taxi/autorickshaw driver for the details.

    • +3

Temples in Pakistan…..hmmmm… mapping them will be a hard mission to undertake :P

Indeed :-) some work has been done before,

      http://www.thehindu.com/features/metroplus/reema-abbasis-his…

No temple in India will answer your call or reply to your email to give you directions.

Completely agree, the App will have them geocoded, so you can get Google Maps navigation to see if your taxi/autorickshaw driver is taking you on the scenic route :-)

Back in June you posted this app for $2.49

I agree with that too and I said there

and once certain review numbers / targets have been met I'd be raising the price upwards to 3.99. Hence the bargain.

Unfortunately that never happened because the numbers never met, I could have raised the price up trying to make it look more attractive but decided against that instead did a Fundraiser for the Android app which will be free when it comes out.

      • +3

This is a bargain website, not an advertising website…

        • +7

Exactly. $0.99 compared to usual $2.49 is 60% off on the app. Very well qualified to be on OZB

        • +3

          @riteshsb:

Very well qualified to be on OZB

If you read my post, you'd realise my comment was for the previous deal where the OP posted this a the 'reduced' price of $2.49, which has always been the normal price. That was SPAM.

  • +3

Good on you mate! All the beat with the app!

    • +4

Thank you for the kind words :-)

  • +2

Downloaded it on the launch day special. Use it every now and then. I didnt know there are more than 10 temples in Sydney before this app. Good buy for $0.99

"World's Best Hindu Temples Directory: Vishwa Hindu Parishad"

Is it the same right wing Vishwa Hindu Paris had that has been involved in countless cases of instigating communal violence?

Are you involved with this organisation?

    No thanks.

    • +1

Some info on Vishwa Hindu Parishad here.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vishva_Hindu_Pari%E1%B9%A3ad

      Official website
      vhp.org

      As per Wiki :-
Vishva Hindu Pariṣad (pronunciation: /vɪʃv(ə) hɪnd̪uː pərɪʃəd̪/, English: World Hindu Council), abbreviated VHP. The VHP is a Hindu right-wing organisation in India and is based on the ideology of Hindutva. It was founded in 1964 and its main objective is "to organise, consolidate the Hindu society and to serve, protect the Hindu Dharma.

Its right wing, considering all religion based organizations are.
But its track record has been more nationalist than extremist. Pretty harmless, to say the least.

This is not the forum to bring in VHP though.

    • +2

VHP is the largest Hindu Organisation in the world.

If you were developing a Geeky app, you'd look for an endorsement from Lifehacker, Exactly in the same way VHP is the biggest and the most prominent Hindu organisation in the world, We have an endorsement from them.

I'm here to discuss the App, not your opinion of VHP. Do you have anything to say about the app ?

      • +1

        What about Shiv Sena

      • So if I develop an app for Mosques, I'll need an endorsement from the biggest Muslim group in the world i.e. Al Qaeda?

What exactly do you mean by endorsement though?

        • So, VHP is the same as Al-Qaeda to you.. Are you on a high or something?

This must be some news for you then.
VHP operates as a registered charity organization in Australia.

Sorry to break your bubble, how-much-ever you may wish for for it being the case, but Al-Qaeda ain't the biggest Muslim group in the world. That honor goes to the "Muslim World League" (Non government) and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (Inter-government).
Neither of the above organizations are in the same league as the Al-Qaeda.

VHP is better compared to the likes of "Rabbinical Assembly".

        • @Baba Firangi:

You do know that a lot of terrorist organisations have charity fronts correct? So yeah to me they are the same. Just Google VHP Gujarat Riots and look at all the articles.

Your username sounds very familiar to a VHP leader Babu Bajrangi http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babu_Bajrangi. Fan much?

        • @evolution-flip:

You yourself mentioned the key difference between VHP and Other groups - "Terrorist organization"

VHP is "NOT" considered a terror group by ANY recognized Governments.

You can refer the list of Terrorist Designations and State Sponsors of Terrorism by US gov here :-
          http://www.state.gov/j/ct/rls/other/des/123085.htm

About the Gujarat Riots, Do you know what happened at Gujarat, or you just mention it out of sheer habit, when you have nothing better to support your claim with?

        • @Baba Firangi:

Yes I know. Read the Wikipedia article I posted about your idol, it should be a good start.

        • @evolution-flip:

The article you posted starts with this :-
          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_Gujarat_riots#Godhra_train…

For your reference, I'll quote an short excerpt from the very article you are referring to:-

"On the morning of 27 February 2002, the Sabarmati Express, returning from Ayodhya to Ahmedabad, was stopped near the Godhra railway station. Several of the passengers were HINDU PILGRIMS, returning from Ayodhya after a religious ceremony at the site of the demolished Babri Masjid.[25][26] Under controversial circumstances, four coaches of the train caught on fire, trapping many people inside. In the resulting conflagration, 59 people, including 25 women and 25 children, were burned to death."

This gentleman is the reality of the Gujarat Riot for you.

        • @Baba Firangi:

OK and that proves…..? That Muslims were involved in burning the coaches and all of them should be killed and VHP was right in instigating communal violence.

          OK.

        • @evolution-flip:

The sarcasm in your counter-argument does not prove anything either..

          OK.

        • @Baba Firangi:

Come on mate! If you are from India, you know what the likes of VHP really are, all you're doing is trying to cover their stuff up because they represent hinduism. The honest truth is they are one of the main organisations behind "saffron terrorism" and of course they have allies like RSS, Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal. I remember being in Mumbai many years ago on a Valentine's day and these thugs were vandalising and burning shops in protest of Valentine's day, that is just one of many incidents I've known. They do crimes against humanity and freedom all the time and you still want to cover up for them?
My "PERSONAL" opinion of VHP is: On the outside they might call themselves a "nationalist hindu organisation" but in reality their aim is to clear the minorities. Or as Dalek would say "Exterminate!"

        • @Baba Firangi:

This media agency seems to have a detailed report of the riots:
          http://archive.tehelka.com/story_main35.asp?filename=Ne03110…

I also read that they sent in pretend journalists with spy cams into VHP headquarters pretending to be VHP members. They have all the VHP people boasting about how they committed crimes against humanity on camera. I believe the videos are still available on youtube.

my concern is if i buy this app what does the proceeds support…..

    • +6

      OP's eneloop fund.

    • +4

my concern is if i buy this app what does the proceeds support…..

My response would be if you are so concerned about your 0.99 then please don't buy the app, I'd hate to cause you so much concern. 0.99 gets you the details of ~ 2000 Hindu Temples in over 50 countries, in an easy accessible manner.

To answer the question for others, The app is so far in the RED that it'd take years to recover the cost let alone the proceeds supporting anything else (Like mapping more Hindu Temples in India)

      • -4

My response would be if you are so concerned about your 0.99 then please don't buy the app,

        So rude !!!

        • +5

Look whos talking about being rude….Role reversal on the same thread!!!!!!!!

        • +1

          @riteshsb:

Can you see the hypocrisy in your comment ?

    • +1

I hope not towards arming and training Modi's BJP's extremist militant wing, i.e. vishwa hindu prishad.

  • +2

    Great app ! nice work.
Would love to see more temples being added in future.., esp'lly from India.

  • Guys,

Let's keep the discussion here about the APP / DEAL , If you have any questions / feedback I'm all ears.

If not No worries, I completely understand this is not a deal for everyone, hence mentioned and tagged the DEAL as clearly HINDU I don't want to get into a religious debate here.

The app exists to help Hindus find temples. If you are not a Hindu or not interested in Hindu Temples then it probably is not going to be useful for you.

    • +5

The app exists to help Hindus find temples

      Just a correction.

Folks, this is an app to help find temples if you are visiting a country or finding one in your own city/country.

I have not downloaded it but can see it's merits.

Let us talk about the app and not get into religious tirade.

      • +2

Love that correction ;-) Thanks for bringing the discussion back into focus,

  • A really nice app for getting information on Hindu temples.
I have used it myself and helped me to get to Hare Krishna temple in QLD which was really remote.

A very very low price for an app without advertisements.
All Hindus should be thankful to developer for such a wonderful idea and his efforts on it.

All those concerned with the proceed should research the fees that Apple asks every month and the time and efforts required to develop an iphone app.

A really nice app for getting information on Hindu temples.

Thanks for just joining Ozbargain to share this…

      • +1

Can't help but nice how the ID is so much different to OP's.

      • +2

If this app was not of a religious nature I wonder if you would bother commenting?
I couldn't give two hoots about religion generally, but can certainly see the merits of this.
Luckily it was Hindu, imagine the uproar here if it mapped mosques

        • +1

          No need to imagine lol…

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/147291

        • +2

If this app was not of a religious nature I wonder if you would bother commenting?

What does that have to do with it?

I couldn't give two hoots about religion generally

Really? Then why did you raise it as an issue ?

  • -1

To be fair and square on everyone here I think its best to keep religious stuff out of OZB!

    • +5

It's an app to find temples, not an app which gives constant homescreen notifications on why you should follow the Jehovah's witnesses.

  • +1

Hi store rep, the price is $1.29 for Au. Is this correct

    • Hi store rep, the price is $1.29 for Au. Is this correct

Hi Yes, Apologies for the confusion, Apple pricing tier 1 used to be 0.99 in US and AUS, I think they change it based on exchange rate so yes it is 1.29 unfortunately. I have updated the deal pricing

      • +1

Bought it. Keep up the good work

  • +2

now we know how many hindus we have on Ozbargain!

    • Not enough methinks.

  • +2

Nice one rep! Going on a tour of Asia soon. This'll come in very handy.

    • -1

      Especially in Pakistan…

    • Take care not to shake hands with any lefties…

  • +1

Good work with the app OP, thanks. :)

  • happy diwali op. looking forward to android app

  • Waiting for the android app release.

  • And if anyone really wants to visit hindu temples, before your visit, make sure that you are of a high caste else the "pundits" will have to cleanse the whole temple.

  • Please keep discussion on-topic about the app, not religious politics.
