  • Do I have to connect this to the antenna on my tv outside for it to get a good, clear signal?

    • depends according to signal strength.

I have found: in canberra, no. in syd: yes, a slightly bigger antenna is needed. (depending how close you are to the towers of course)

you can get the same product from dealextreme for $US20.91 which is $24-25AUD.

    • id rather spend $7 extra to get it quicker and from a place in Australia.

    • If the COTD is the same as the DX one, then it's an Aftech AF9015, which will work on Linux with MythTV. You just need to compile the V4L drivers, which is nowhere near as scary as it seems - it's about five commands, which you can copy and paste straight off their wiki.

  • Anyone got one of these before? Experiences/comparison?

  • Using that antenna you will have to be very close to the towers. Otherwise you might be able to find a spot where you can get one channel, but its generally pretty poor for digital tv. I think they are meant for outdoors perhaps in a car?

The actual digital tuner should work fine.

  • Ebay have digital USB tuners starting around $15 delivered (ex. HK).

I'm running one of these generic $16 tuners in Vista media center along side an Ausu3100 USB ($60++). No difference in performance or picture quality.

Having used digital tuners with my PC since 2004, I agree with the the other comments, unless you are sitting under a transmission tower with line of sight, you'll need an external antenna.

  • Can you connect an external antenna to this tuner, or do you have to use the included antenna only?

  • I have one of these and live in the middle of Melbourne and its terrible. Not worth it.

    • Is that using an external aerial or just the mini one it comes with?

  • id also like to know if you can plug an external antenna in to this unit.. ?

  • Sold out.
