What is the diff comparing to ac68 beside two 5g instead of one?
- RT-AC87U is one of first the wave-2 wireless AC routers
- Faster CPU
- Location of USB 3.0 port moved (though RT-AC68U did address the USB 3.0 speed issue with a firmware update apprently).
Hardly any device (if any) supports AC2400. Unless you really want USB 3.0 support and don't have RT-AC68U, might be best to wait for wireless AC standard to really finalise.

AFAIK, the highest AC throughput/speed supported by any USB or mini PCI-e adapter/dongle is currently 1300Mbps w/ 3x3 5Ghz streams. This router supports upto 1700Mbps so good for futureproofing, but just note that you will be paying a premium for a tech; performance in which you can't fully utilize atm.

I won't be touching Asus routers again as my AC requites firmware upload every time it loses power… It is a known problem and many users experience it.
