@shadowarrior, coukd a person setup chromecasting from their phone to an android miniPC dongle running the chrome browser ? and therefore get all the features of this and more on their TV ?

I have a cheap dongle. Yes, more capable. But more hassle as well, having to hook up a keyboard and playing contents from a phone. Chromecast is more about ease-of-use than about technical capability. Another reason for me is that the Chromecast can easily be powered by the USB of my tv (which means it goes on/off with my tv), whereas my Android dongle requires an external adapter of 1A at least.
I got one of the cheap Tronsmart dongles. That can be powered by my TV's usb port and can be cast from phone and PC.
Latest update now has support for both wifi direct connection as well as via network. Screen mirroring seems to have improved too for videos.
This is why I am sitting on the fence with Chromecast. As much as I want to try it, what advantages does it have over my Tronsmart dongle?

I just ordered it and Paid via Paypal then the DS site said the PP transaction failed. Not according to PP, they have charged my account and I have the receipt. Rang DS Online Sales, got "Due to unforeseen circumstances this department is not open, ring back". Crap. Of course the local store wont help because "Online Sales is a different department" but they will sell me a second one at full price. Unimpressed. And now Online Sales just has a busy signal.
This happens all the time with Dick Smith. Don't hold your breath as I have stated in a comment above I ordered 3 gift cards when they had a promo on 15/10/14. Got an error like you and never got confirmation on them. I called them 3 (got through once but told they could not help) and emailed them 3 times with no answer. just put in pay pal dispute and try your luck somewhere else.
I had the same thing. But login to your Dick Smith account & the order will show up as "Processing".
If anything we can always use the 45 day Paypal Dispute thing.

Got through to Online Support eventually, they said they had had a number of problems with their website and would get back to me… in 3 to 5 DAYS. I told them I would be cancelling the PayPal transaction instead because of the poor performance of Dick Smith staff and processes.
I now have 1 Gift Card in my email, order number does not match anything on pay pal receipts and I got an invoice that says it was purchased on 20/10/14. How bad can this company stuff up on line sales and how long does it take to fix the issues and reply to emails. I guess I can do a pay pal dispute for all order but who knows what will happen to the one linked with the gift card I received. I will not use it anyway since I am done with Dick Smith.

Yeah this happens when the page timeouts right after you pay with pay pal. It happened to me with the $5 coupon. Ended up having to raise a dispute with paypal to get my money back as the order didn't go through.
hmm….if it is showing up in your PayPal transactions list it should show up in your DS account. Did you have a DS login?
P.S. I haven't seen any order confirmation email.
I called up the callcenter and my order did not push through… I've raised a dispute with paypal… first time to be a victim of dickSmith :(
@thanq: It happened to me with $10 GC for $5 as well. However, after that I was not able to use Paypal to pay anymore. Not sure why, every time I confirm PayPal payment and back to Dick Smith website, the "Place Order" button was grey out. Anyone experience this?

Managed to order one to be delivered now despite issues earlier. I avoided PayPal and used credit card.
Previously I couldn't complete the order with PayPal (timeout) or Card (down for maintenance). Then after that tried click & collect and got out of stock.

This is my first time using the Click and Collect option and so far I am very disappointed.
The purchase seemingly went well, $39 was taken from my bank account via Paypal, and I went to the store that I selected. Unfortunately the store has no idea who I am or any information about my order at all.
So now I'm back at home waiting for a confirmation email after an hour and a half. The store said they didnt know who to talk to or call, all the call centres are closed, and I'm down $39.
I thought click and collect was supposed to be a quick and easy alternative, but I really just wish I had of spent the extra $10 and picked it up from somewhere who can get it right.
As for the Chromecast, this was going to be my second unit and I highly recommend them to anyone who is sitting on the fence about it. The things work flawlessly, I have my current one plugged directly into my home theatre system and send all my audio and video directly to it from my phone. Easy to set up, and you will honestly wonder how you got by without one.
Although I'm having trouble with Click and Collect, $39 is an absolute steal for this. The $52 I spent on my first unit is easily the best value investment I have made in entertainment in years.

I ordered and selected Click/Collect.
Less than 2 hours later I got the confirmation text so popped off down the road and picked it up. EASY.

I use it to cast Premiere League football from the PC each weekend. Saves me having to support bloody Rupert Murdoch. Though the quality of the streams are hit and miss (not ChromeCast's fault), so if anyone knows of a Prem League live streaming subscription service online (like my friends $100 a year US Basketball subscription where he can watch any game throughout the year, live or past).
Maybe you're jumping the gun a little bit. Have you received the email that tells you that your order is ready for collection?
Ended up being a timeout issue between Paypal and Dick Smith. It wasn't a matter of waiting for my confirmation email, it never got that far. I never received the acknowledgement of order email so I guess there was an issue somewhere between the store requesting payment from Paypal and creating my order ticket. I ended up filing a Paypal dispute to cancel the original order and tried again with credit card. This time I immediately recieved the acknowledgement email and the ready to pick up email about 15 minutes later.
I have a networking/programming background and I definitely understand how easy it is for these sort of problems to arise, it just wasn't a very pleasant customer experience for my first time using the service.
In saying that the service was great when using my credit card directly and the local store staff were nothing but helpful and friendly
they text you when its ready to be collected. patience!

Another "you've charged my paypal account, given me an error on the check out screen, and now you expect me to wait 72 hours for you to respond". Well no, Paypal dispute tomorrow and escalate to claim on Saturday. Australian retailers wonder why we prefer to buy from Amazon….

I hope they are listening. I ordered something from them and it sat in their warehouse for over 3 weeks. Everytime I called I was told they were waiting for the courier to pick it up. I took me a week to get someone on the phone to actually look further than their stupid flow diagram and realize that the order was lost in their warehouse.

@Expon - Suggest you read the Paypal terms and conditions - there is no 10 day minimum - only a suggestion you wait 7 days for item not received - but in any case item not received is not the same as our systems have no record of your order…rgds bigboy
I done a click and collect yesterday arvo at St Marys, SA. Tried picking it up a few hours later, but they didn't have the email confirmation. I still haven't received the pickup email. How long should I wait? Coming up on 24 hours.

Wondering what I should do… have emailed online sales @ dick smith with paypal receipt attached to see if they can track down my order (received no order confirmation) or should I just go ahead and log a dispute via paypal and order one through Amazon? I ordered 2 yesterday for Click and Collect but got the blank screen after placing order. I didn't have anything in my account info so I opened a paypal dispute. Just got an email saying the 2 chromecast is ready for pick up :D
Now I know Dick has "double standards" to the Half Price Gift Card and Chromecast. Since they have no gain selling the half price giftcard, there's certainly no record in their system when we got the blank screen; while I'm sure there is some profit in selling the $39 chromecast, so they can find the order and process it although we got the same type of blank screen. Very impressed!!!! Well done Dick!
