Any opinions on the split system air con? Is it just a rebadged brand-name? Is reliable?
you can get this aircon (badged AKAI) at Bunnings for $549 (normal price)
which is kind of irregular for aldi specials to be more expensive

And no, it's not a rebadged AKAI, they're both badged by the same importer (Tempo)
AKAI offer you a 24 month warranty from the date of purchase, against all manufacturing defects in material and workmanship of the indoor and outdoor unit. An additional 3 year warranty is offered on the compressor.
ALDI supported by a 5 year in home warranty.
