All-new design
iPad Air weighs less than half a kilo, and it’s 20 per cent thinner.2 But even though it’s extremely light, it has a refined aluminium unibody enclosure that feels solid and durable in your hand.

9.7-inch Retina display
Photos and videos look incredibly detailed and text is razor sharp on the stunning Retina display, which features over 3.1 million pixels — a million more than an HDTV.

A7 chip
The powerful and power-efficient A7 chip with 64-bit architecture makes everything remarkably responsive — while still delivering up to 10 hours of battery life.3

Ultra-fast wireless
Now you can get up to 2x faster Wi-Fi performance using 802.11n with MIMO.4

Powerful apps included
iPad comes with great apps for sending email, browsing the web and making video calls.

  • All-new design?

    • +1

Well, it has the A7 chip.

But - as an Android user - I feel it offers TOO LITTLE for TOO MUCH $$$
(no slot for MicroSD card or similar, to incr SCARCE STORAGE) &
even their iCloud space is costly (over the 5GB you get free).

We remain UNIMPRESSED w/ iPad's cost-for-value (SAME W/ NEW iPhoneS)

Well, this was newer when Kogan offered it for $390 [incl shipping].

We just got the eMail - from Apple - announcing NEWER iPad & mini'
(w/ fingerprint ID system, etc.), so $390 is "too high" today, IMO.

Some, who bought 16gb ver, find THEY CAN'T UPGRAGE IT to NEW VER of iOS

(ie, the one that let's a family share iTunes purchases, etc.), due to
TOO LITTLE (of the 16 GB) AVAILABLE…!!!

Apple has been doing this "UNDER SPEC'G" for years, IMO.

They want you to pay HEAPS more for 32GB ver (of greater).

    It's like a "Hardware Pay-Wall" IMO.

      • You'd need ~5 GB free storage to upgrade iOS […or was that ~7 GB needed to be free for new iOS?], &
      • you start w/ less than 16 GB out-of-the-box!

Save up for 32 GB or stick w/ Android (but get 2 GB RAM for Android IF you have lotsa apps)

      • Or just plug the iPad into iTunes which avoids the need to have free space available on the device.

    • Google are worse now, the nexus 9 costs $110 extra to upgrade to 32gb model.

The specs may seem low on paper, in the real world the A7 has been destroying anything Android can come up with over the past year. The nexus 9 using the tegra k1 should rectify this judging by early benchmarks, but its taken a year for Android to catch up.

As for value, what current Android tab offers better build quality and performance at this price range? I like to criticize Apple as much any Android fanboy does, but their iPads tend to offer pretty good value when stacked up against the competition, and Android usually doesn't offer much competition in this part of the tablet market.

I suspect the nexus 9 will change things a little, but the concern with the N9 will be battery life. This is where the light thin iPad Air with it great performance still excels.

  • Is this brand new or referbished or grey. Not clear in the definition.

Referbished $439 at apple store. I would get it from Apple Store even if it's refurbished.
