Last Week I got my free one from them :) Hope for the best :))

    • I got mine last week. Save myself $1.

    • I got mine 3 days ago. :)

    • +3

i still haven't got mine. kogan are not reputable in my books. i've had better luck from anonymous chinese sellers on ebay

    • Yea I still haven't gotten mine yet…

  • +2

Wow "Leaves warehouse in 3-4 weeks" and then another 3-5 days for metro delivery.
    It'll soon be Christmas!

    • +1

      "Leaves warehouse in 3-4 weeks"

plus another 2-3 shipping from hong kong. you might as well just order one direct on ebay if you really need one

  • +2

Still haven't got my free one , so not going to pay for one.

  • I got mine a few days ago. It looks decent but charges slowly at around 0.5A.

$1 delivered is the standard Ebay price for this and you will get twice as quick as Kogan. Most people have been waiting around 2 months for the free USB cable deal, looks like Kogan have scammed them so would have avoid handing over any money to these clowns.

    • Well It depends upon your email confirmation. The free USB cable comes up when you subscribe with them and I received a email from KOGAN as stating that "I Ordered Free USB cable from them please accept the response and will send the stock straight away".
So, I think it needs your time also to click the link to send the free USB cable.

      • This is still not a bargain. Please explain why you have pos voted a standard Ebay price but much slower delivery. If you are associated with them then you should declare it.

    • +3

scammed them for something free? ok…

      • +3

Information is a highly sought after commodity.

Offering a free product in return for signing you up to spam mailing lists, then not sending the product, is a scam.

    • They said in the DESCRIPTION that it could take up to 4 weeks, yes it may of taken a little longer than 4 weeks, but it's free, unless you paid for a premium service don't neg a kogan post for something that you got for free

      • I negged because this is the standard Ebay price. Please refer to the first sentence of my comment.

    • I got my free cable last week.

      • I said most people, not all people.

I had been used and posted about cheap USB cables until I watched the recent TV program on WinTV. Don't buy cheap USB cables

    • +3

I think the danger is more in the cheap AC Wall chargers.
The brand of the USB cables themselves won't make much difference.

      • +1

When you can buy a USB phone charger from China or Hong Kong for as little as $2.37 or a USB cable for one dollar including shipping, you should be wary of the quality of their internal components. It highlights the dangers of using uncertified phone cables & Wall chargers.

So, it is good spend ~$8 when they are in special for a good one.

        • +3

How do you know that's a good one?

        • @nfr:

          Because it costs more. Duh!

        • +4

It's the charger that could be dangerous. Not the cable. The worst thing a cable could do is short circuit, which a good charger should cope with (certainly not ideal, but not a danger to your life). And Gizmodo is a shit source.

Speaking of, the cable you linked is probably not good. Good cables for charging (1A+) require fairly thick wires; most big store cables and chargers are only designed for 500mA. And it's definitely overpriced; the Tikbro cables recently went for half that price, and we have confirmed that they have the advertised cable thickness and current capacity (though the physical cable head quality may not be the best).

      1. the offending item was a usb charger, not a usb cable
      2. even australian-sold chargers from top manufacturers (with approvals) have been found to have their share of faults, eg http://www.recalls.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/1054071
      3. statistically speaking, you are more likely to die in a vehicle or even being a pedestrian on a footpath. stay off the streets and always make sure you are wearing your tin-foil hat.
      4. all electrical items deserve healthy respect, but there is a thin line between caution and paranoia
    • +1

There is always a risk with any imported electrical products, that they may not be constructed to an adequate standard. Unfortunately price is definitely not an indicator of quality.

The cable itself may short circuit (and potentially could cause damage to the attached product), but it is far more the charger that runs the danger of more severity.

I have previously had an AC->USB wall charger explode, blowing the USB cable out of the charger, flinging it a couple of meters, and dropping my phone off the bench it was sitting on whilst charging. The Charger also melted while in the AC plug - which highlighted the risk of fire, etc too. Fortunately, I was a room away, heard the noise, and was able to disconnect and dispose of the charger, without further damage.

I've used many cheap chargers since - and none of them have ever had this problem.

YMMV - but a great general rule is to never be so complacent, that we expect the responsibility of functional safety to reside with the manufacturers. Especially when impulse buying a steady stream of O/S electrical goods thanks the awesome people posting on OzBargain!

i bought it a couple months ago, it was very bad cables i Ever Had…
    DON'T BUY IT

    • -1

Wouldn't say they're the worst cables I've ever seen but the metal connector bit from mine snapped out of the rubber casing, so you just have to be gentle. You get what you pay for I guess.

  • dont people have heaps of these from their phones tabs wifi devices etc.

    • +1

I think some people would & some people would not.

  • +1

    I have not received mine…..!

  • I went on ebay and spent about $40 buying a heap of them a while back, ended up managing to find some with some actual decent wire guage in the 1.5m range as well as some good quality short ones. Thrown out all the cheap crap now. Can charge phones, run USB drives etc with far less hassle.

Best USB2 cable I've found comes with WD passport HDD's, tight fit, thick cable, works well

Why buy these when we can get the better tikbro ones for similar prices and delivered in a day or two??
