  • Does anyone know of any of the receivers have a phono input?

    • -6

      Just a basic left/right input? Every receiver has atleast 3-10 pairs of these.

        Don't know why you got negged krisspy. I think Pigsy3 is asking whether they have a phono pre-amp line in.

        • Probably because he gave advice about something that he clearly has no idea about…

          @magnafunk: well lets not leave these guys in the dark. Pigsy - which receiver are you looking at in particular?

        • -1

          @magnafunk: what exactly do I have no clue about? He asked if these have phono inputs… look at the back of ANY receiver and tell me they don't have multiple line level phono inputs.

          Had he said PRE-AMP in, then I would've said something completely different and would've directed him to higher end models that can act as a pre/power amp separately. It's not a small thing to leave out. But you already know this since you're obviously the smartest one here right?

          @krisspy:

          sorry but that is misleading information phono input and line level input is totally different. phono input is normally for input from turntable that need to have a different circuitry than line level input.

          secondly output from a preamp is line level so to input that to any receiver. so you can input from a pre amp through aux line input. what most higher end receiver has is pre amp out not in.

          @krisspy:
          Sorry, that was a bit bitchy. What I was saying is that just because a receiver has RCA inputs, they are not necessarily suitable for phono. Turntables run at a much lower voltage, so they usually require a dedicated input, or a phono preamp.

        • A phono input requires RIAA equalization http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_equalization

          Some turntables have a inbuilt pre-amp with the required RIAA equalization enabling these turntables to be plugged into any RCA input.

          If the turntable has no inbuilt pre-amp a dedicated phono input with RIAA equalization is required on the AVR.

          @cornbeef: Cheers, sorry for the troubles I caused to everyone. I was away for the day and unable/not wanting to search each of the receivers on my phone. Yeah I was after a receiver with a built in pre amp.

        • @Pigsy3: You should buy us all an ice-cream Pigsy ;7)

    • Good question Pigsy - specs should tell you. I must admit I haven't looked for a while but was mildly surprised at comments I read which suggest many cheaper HT receivers in particular leave it out. Logical I guess.

    • I think these days might be cheaper to get a separate phono preamp than looking for a receiver that has phono input. have you look at schiit mani?

    • +2

      @Pigsy3 it looks like only the Marantz SR6008 and Denon AVR-X4000 have a phono input built in.

      • Cheers blackrose.

        • Keep in mind the SR6008 is cheaper from The Cable Connection Vic @ $999 + delivery or free pickup.

          Im guessing the cheap clearance prices due to the new Marantz x009 series being released overseas and here soon.

        • Also keep in mind that many of these receivers MAY not be "4K ready" if they don't have HDMI HDCP2.2. New compliant receivers should be avaible in the next 3-6 months so I'm waiting, semi-patiently.
